- RobbyK, on 06/16/2008, -7/+150This will make the front page simply because of the thumbnail...
- coachmcguirk, on 06/16/2008, -1/+103"Ok, all done scattering my expensive china around the livingroom floor... Now... Who's for Wii Fit?"
- lnxfi, on 06/16/2008, -9/+101Add a warning label. "Warning: No Fat Chicks"
- cambob76, on 06/16/2008, -1/+85This just in: People are starting to realize that this 'fitness' phenomenon occurs in 3 dimensions.
- PullingTeeth, on 06/16/2008, -1/+80What kind of friend has a $210 lamp?
- Otto, on 06/16/2008, -2/+58What kind of friend would break his friend's lamp and not pay for it?
- StuartGibson, on 06/14/2009, -6/+52I have a £150 lamp in the living room which is near $300. But I'm not your friend, guy.
- ypSami, on 06/16/2008, -1/+47Maybe I'm missing the point, but this article seems like rubbish. What new information have we learned? That "some group" "somewhere" developed a metric for measuring "an estimate" of how much damage has come from a specific video game? Is this actually interesting to "someone" out there for "some reason"?
- look4alec, on 06/16/2008, -1/+47I spent $210 replacing my friend's lamp after a gaff in a professional wii tennis match.
- Morac, on 06/16/2008, -2/+40Maybe the phrase "woman on a Wii balance board" will replace the phrase "bull in a china shop".
- falkonv7l, on 06/16/2008, -2/+40Still worth it
- codyman, on 06/16/2008, -5/+38wii falldown
- xoools, on 06/16/2008, -1/+31People really should read the warning labels. It clearly says to make sure you have enough room around so you don't break stuff.
- reedts, on 06/16/2008, -1/+28These damages are caused by ALL forms of in-home workouts, not just with the Wii. I've noticed that British and Australian publications like the Daily Telegraph, Daily Mail, and the Guardian use very misleading titles to rope you in, and then use somewhat irrelevant statistics to back them up. Really trashy in my opinion.
Key support quotes that don't even have anything to do with Wii Fit or any video games:
"Almost 20 per cent of women polled admitted having accidents after getting carried away in the living room with fitness routines SUCH AS THOSE on the Nintendo Wii Fit."
"Many of the 1,000 women polled for women-only insurer Sheila's Wheels admitted they had caused an average of STG6.55 ($A13.60) worth of damage to their homes in the last year with over-enthusiastic work-outs. That figure equates to a national bill of STG20 million." - toekneebullard, on 06/16/2008, -0/+25Shh...don't question the mediatainment. Just nod, grunt, and drool. Now go buy something, and be afraid of terrorists.
Good job citizen! - EvilFerret, on 06/16/2008, -0/+24If I paid $200+ for a lamp and somebody broke it even on accident, they're going to at least pay partial for it. If it was a cheap $20 lamp I wouldn't give a *****.
- jblade, on 06/16/2008, -5/+29Im not your guy bwuddy.
- ucbluman, on 06/16/2008, -21/+44this just in: people who play video games are otherwise uncoordinated with their bodies. more at 11.
- diggduggDOOM, on 06/16/2008, -0/+21I'm pretty sure you don't have to face each other while Wii Boxing.
- PullingTeeth, on 06/16/2008, -1/+21You seem like a pretty cool guy, want to be my friend?
- inactive, on 06/16/2008, -0/+20People should really just use common sense. It's a nice feature of the human brain.
- walshgopher, on 06/16/2008, -2/+20There /is/ a weight limit.
- mediaspree, on 06/16/2008, -1/+18and thats the story of how Armanese lost his virginity.
- zadadka, on 06/16/2008, -2/+17I foresee a new entry on Household Insurance Claim forms : "Were you operating a Wii device when the accident occurred?"
A positive response will, of course, void your claim. - LordoftheLoo, on 06/16/2008, -5/+20Ive been hit in the face during a Wii Boxing match so broken lamps dont compare
(my friend won because he kept playing while I was on the ground, but its ok, I got him back, I bled all over his carpet) - StuartGibson, on 06/14/2009, -2/+16Oh great, so now it's a $41,000,296 damage bill.
- synaesthasia, on 06/16/2008, -0/+14This article has been brought to you by the Lazy Journalist's Night School Program and Liquor Store (not affiliated with the University of Phoenix); creators of the "Pull Any Statistic You Need from Your Own (or Someone Else's) Ass" reference manual. (now in handy paperback).
- andyduncan, on 06/16/2008, -1/+15Typical prole FUD: Take a number that some analyst pulled out of their ass for an entire industry and then attach that number to whatever hot-this-week product provides the best headline bait.
- dhinckley, on 06/16/2008, -0/+14Did anyone actually read the article... it states "Almost 20 per cent of women polled admitted having accidents after getting carried away in the living room with fitness routines SUCH AS THOSE on the Nintendo Wii Fit." and that the value of damages was over the "Past Year".
The article is completely misleading as Wii Fit has been out about a month and would have very little to do with the fact that Women break things while working out in their homes with or without the Wii Fit. - inactive, on 06/16/2008, -1/+12But then we wouldn't have the Wii Bum Dance video, which is in the story and definitely worth your time.
- Faelenor, on 06/16/2008, -0/+11300 pounds is fit?!
- h3llscaper, on 06/16/2008, -2/+13You must really love lamp.
- rpayne656, on 06/16/2008, -0/+10There's mountains of evidence that suggests common sense is not a standard feature in all humans.
- metaliq, on 06/16/2008, -1/+11Or maybe he is a good friend and volunteered to replace it?
- pintomp3, on 06/16/2008, -0/+10but a negative response might void your health insurance claim...
- greenlight2001, on 06/16/2008, -3/+12I just broke your lamp. Sorry, pal.
- KMartSheriff, on 06/16/2008, -2/+11As it should; she's ***** hot.
- Outsanity, on 06/16/2008, -4/+13that's funny. you have to be fit to use WiiFit
- crazydiode, on 06/16/2008, -1/+9you read that? wow..
- Zaneris, on 06/16/2008, -0/+8It's just so much easier when they're unconscious.
- Armanese, on 06/16/2008, -0/+8Well yeah, it wasn't like she was in pain, she started laughing along too!
- JoshDaFink, on 06/16/2008, -0/+8I thought it was "hemophiliac" baby.
- dislexicllama, on 06/16/2008, -0/+8Just btw for all of you who struggled in Advanced Reading Comprehension at school, the article is siting the $41M as being the cost of repairs from "...increasingly vigorous home exercise routines". Not all of this comes from Wii fit ("..with fitness routines such as those [on the Wii]") but the later rather contributed to the huge bill...
:) - McShr3dd3r, on 06/16/2008, -2/+9Dugg for reference to the Wii fit Bum video.
That girl must be pissed! - PseudoThink, on 06/16/2008, -3/+10Dugg for gratuitous thumbnail.
- Mr.Gone, on 06/16/2008, -0/+7I know exactly what they mean. I was playing Link's Crossbow Training and I shot my neighbor to death.
- MiamiRox, on 06/16/2008, -2/+9http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o279/dannyd215_ ...
- Armanese, on 06/16/2008, -4/+10Hahahah my friend who is a girl (not gf) wanted to try wii fit so I let her have a go. After about seconds of activities she fell and smashed her head into the glass stand below me plasma! I laughed my head off and was thankful she didnt break the glass, or her head....
