- skeletorcares, on 11/17/2008, -39/+146i don't buy it. the system is just too weak and the motion sensing is too much a gimmick.
I'll sum up how Wii works
1. the wii says the stick needs to move
2. I MOVED THE STICK!
3. it says i won.
The best game for Wii so far is super mario galaxy, and the reason its so successful is that it barely uses the motion sensing. WarioWare is a close second, but it doesn't use very advanced motion sensing either, movement on one axis for the most part. It just doesn't' have the ability to understand if you're winging the wiimote around or if you're flicking it. This is why they are having (another) add-on to add more motion sensing to the wiimote.
Another reason I am demoralized about nintendo is because for Mario Cart, i was trying to get all the trophies because i figured it required some skill. Half way through, i went over to a buddy's house, who is awful at videogames, and he's got all the trophies maxed out. We play some multi-player, and he comes in dead last everytime. DEE-MORALIZING.
As a toy, wii is great, as a gaming system, nope. - Dentid4Hed, on 11/17/2008, -16/+107I just traded my Wii in for a 360. I'm officially breaking up with Nintendo. It's been a good 20 years together, but I can tell you just don't love me anymore. You gave me such joy when we were younger... but now all you do is half-ass everything. Sure, you have your good days here and there, but you're nothing like you used to be. I think we should see other people... we'll be happier apart. You can have your 8-15 kids demographic and your soccer moms and I can play games that do things like "entertain" me and "engage" me with "challenge" and "good" graphics.
- oSiK, on 11/19/2008, -4/+88The 'Halo' Crowd?
With the wii's garbage online system?
No chance in hell. - rockon4life45, on 11/17/2008, -8/+72I call *****
- APHughes, on 11/17/2008, -10/+64You are judging a game you haven't even played. People said Halo was horrible at E3 but it became a great franchise. I suggest you wait and see if it is good.
- ursername180, on 11/18/2008, -4/+55You're taking Cammie's word? The woman who orgasmed all over 'Wii Sports: Resort' because it had a cute dog frisbee game?
- julianwan, on 11/19/2008, -3/+53Because the moral of video games isn't to have fun... but to be better than other people. Without that, it's all demoralizing and downhill...
- gadgetlust, on 11/19/2008, -4/+36Too little, too late. Sold my Wii a month ago, and haven't looked back. Nintendo will always be the console of my childhood, and the console of my parents' elderhood.
- Shiftgood, on 11/19/2008, -1/+33Oh digg, how fickle your loyalties are.
- mogdor, on 11/19/2008, -0/+31Somehow that lady doesn't look like the "Halo" type.....
- honeymustardn, on 11/19/2008, -7/+37Halo basically is a "casual" for lack of a better term franchise. At the end of the day its just an easily accessible FPS for all ages but it doesn't hold a candle to some of the PC FPS games.
- pedo, on 11/19/2008, -9/+36the first game is called "Mario: Bowser Evolved"
the second game is called "MarioShock"
the third game is called "Call of Mario"
the fourth game is called "Left 4 Mario"
the fifth game is called "Gears of Mario" - inactive, on 11/17/2008, -38/+64rofl, if anyone thinks the conduit is even a remote competitor to cod then you're a delusional fanboy
- diecastbeatdown, on 11/19/2008, -0/+24yea, she is PR, knows nothing about games. I met her at E3 before.
- marjo9, on 11/19/2008, -1/+21yeah im in the same boat. there have been so many great games that have been coming out for the 360 and ps3 and ***** nothing for the wii. how can a console with such a huge user base continually pump out god awful ***** games that are quickie ripoffs of some internet flash game.
- dafragsta, on 11/19/2008, -4/+24Good call Nintendo? When did the Wii come out again? Oh yeah, 2006. How old was the hardware in it? Oh yeah... 2002 ish. So I guess you're gonna make Halo, BioShock, and Call of Duty games on 6 year old hardware? Yeah, good luck selling that texture pea soup. Mark my words: there will never be a successful traditional shooter on the Wii.
- inactive, on 11/18/2008, -6/+26FTA
'since the Wii launched in 2006, the company has had a hard time attracting the hardcore gamers who enjoy things like “Halo,” “BioShock” or “Call of Duty.”'
That is because Nintendo have neglected core gamers - even dumbing down traditional franchise titles to suit.
To top it all off, they dumped Friend Codes, Wii Music and Animal Crossing on us.
They come up with something good (Wii and Wii Fit) and then shoot themselves in the foot again and again. - pwner, on 11/19/2008, -3/+21Maybe Nintendo is just going to port Halo 1 over.
- bloggerjul, on 11/19/2008, -3/+21I second the motion...
They aren't even releasing decent game anymore... even leisure ones.... - SkippyDoorknob, on 11/19/2008, -4/+22Yeah, they shot themselves in the foot. They must be crying all day long at Nintendo HQ. Crying all day long into their massive pile of money.
- stoanhart, on 11/19/2008, -0/+17I don't know - the motion sensing is pretty good when done right. SSX Blur and Metroid Prime come to mind. IMHO, the the Metroid Prime control scheme is miles above any dual-analog stick setup for an FPS; it's second only to the keyboard and mouse.
- cl2yp71c, on 11/19/2008, -2/+19Nintendo and Fleshlight have finally merged?
- liquisoft, on 11/19/2008, -1/+18I haven't seriously played a game with my Wii for 4 or 5 months.
I liked it a lot at first, but it's lost its shimmer. - PhoenixAvatar2, on 11/19/2008, -2/+16I was a nintendo fanboy since I was 10 and asked for an N64 instead of the Dreamcast (the year it debuted) but the Wii has successfully driven me away. Over the course of the Gamecube's life I've picked up almost 20 games plus whatever my siblings got for Christmas and maybe 20 more that I wanted but couldn't afford. I even waited in line on launch day for a Wii. After a year and a half with the Wii I realized that there were only about five exclusive games that I liked, that I already owned them, and that there was nothing remotely interesting besides possibly Conduit in the pipeline. So I sold my Wii and games at Gamestop and eBay and used that money to buy a new 360 and a few games. Couple months later and I don't regret my decision at all.
- SoopaflySAM, on 11/19/2008, -1/+15Alright!!! Halo DS?
- shagg187, on 11/19/2008, -1/+14If my games they mean 'a game' then they might be right. Might be...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Conduit
It's not even by Nintendo's first party.
EDIT: Just read the article and yes, that's the game Cammie Dunaway is talking about. Cammie Dunaway is the Sarah Palin of gaming industry. - CollapseControl, on 11/17/2008, -10/+23There is nothing really wrong with the Wii console, the way it's selling is proof enough, but when it comes to what multiplayer gamers want, the Wii just can't provide it.
If Nintendo could create a game that has over 1 million gamers logging in on the release date to play (Halo 3 / Gears of War 2) i'd be impressed beyond words. But with their controller, spec limits, & online service (or lack of) it just doesn't seem possible. - Wisgary, on 11/19/2008, -1/+14Did you just ***** call it Mario Cart?????????????
- meleemaster500, on 11/18/2008, -3/+16this article is probably just talking about the upcoming The Conduit game.
I don't think nintendo has any specific "halo-like" games in the making - archer104, on 11/19/2008, -4/+16Well have you tried it? I have and it is better than joysticks.
- terminal157, on 11/19/2008, -2/+13The statement that Zelda fans are "locked up" is ridiculous. Nintendo hasn't even done right by them. I played Twilight Princess on my GameCube, thanks.
- daschupa, on 11/19/2008, -2/+13I found their first game.
http://i35.tinypic.com/nltxkm.jpg - Gizza, on 11/19/2008, -2/+13It doesn't matter what game they release, they will never appeal to the 'Halo' crowd, because that crowd want better graphics than the Wii can handle.
- kangy3213, on 11/19/2008, -1/+12Yeah right...
- DonJuanAussi, on 11/18/2008, -4/+15It doesn't convince me to stay on the Wii. It would be unlikely to entice people from other platforms. I am currently looking for a deal on a PS3 locally because Nintendo are hopeless. I will keep the Wii but only to play Gamecube games, since the Gamecube games are still superior to the Wii games.
- MrMowen, on 11/19/2008, -2/+12Halo crowd != Bioshock crowd
- nobelief, on 11/19/2008, -0/+10as opposed to PC gamers being 40 yr old virgins?
- Aurabolt, on 11/19/2008, -0/+10I thought I was the only one who felt that way.
- xprojects, on 11/19/2008, -1/+11His point was that skill in recent Mario Kart editions is downplayed by sheer luck, which is what Mario Kart has "evolved" into - a frantic nonsense racing game for people who like to screw around and drive backwards on the track and act like 4 year olds.
You can play football with no end-zones if you like and maybe have some fun, but that doesn't mean the rest of us who use the end zones aren't having any fun. Get over yourself. - oblique63, on 11/19/2008, -1/+11if they actually released a 2-in-1 fleshlight/wiimote peripheral, it might actually make the wii worth playing...
- inactive, on 11/19/2008, -3/+12Halo:CE had rave reviews before its release. Its the reason I bought a xbox on day 1.
- winterorchid, on 11/19/2008, -1/+10I don't know why you're getting dugg down. That's funny.
- saucercrab, on 11/19/2008, -5/+14Nintendo should stay where it is. The fact that each console is trying to appeal to as many people as possible, is also why each fails in the eyes of true critics. The more children that stick with their Wii toys, the less I have to listen to screaming in my ear as I try to run a flank with buddies in Call of Duty. The thought of Nintendo trying to compete with Grand Theft Auto fans is about as crazy as Hasbro investing in lubricated latex rubber.
As I approach 30, I realize I will probably be playing games most of my life and will be able to afford and enjoy more and more advanced entertainment technologies that most parents wouldn't dare buy for their children. The Wii is fun for sure, but mine has been gathering dust for almost two years now. It's analog GPU is futile competition for the 360 and PS3 viewed on a 52" plasma television. Every once in a while we will break it out for some drunk bowling or for some company that hasn't played one yet. I personally feel it's a bit gimmicky - but maybe that the biased opinion of an old school gamer who's digits are much more agile and precise than his arms and wrists will ever be. I tried to play Twilight princess for a month straight, and felt just as awkward and frustrated as I remember my father with the original Zelda on the NES. I gave up. The motion controller is great for the sport and party games, but I can't see it being adapted to the "traditional" first person shooter.
Keep up the good work Nintendo, it's a great system that has gotten millions of people off of their asses and broken many prejudices and stigma attached to videogaming. However, I choose to enjoy a graphically superior, well networked multimedia system that should have no problem hosting games that all but ignore the ESRB... Not to mention its ability to manage music, movies, television shows and a number of other creative, albeit grotesquely capitalist, digital enterprises. - Stuntaneous, on 11/19/2008, -3/+12if you wanna play that game..
toggle sticks for an fps? no. - vegx, on 11/19/2008, -3/+12Galaxy has a lot of motion control. Pointer aiming for star bits and other things. Shake it to spin Mario. And several levels that use motion controls entirely (like the manta racing).
Getting the trophies in Mario Kart has been pretty easy going back to the original one, yet this comes as a surprise to you now? That, along with the fact that Mario Kart gives you ridiculous items if you're in last place (especially in the Wii version), basically makes it impossible for someone to come in last if they've even played the game before. And "Mario Cart"? Have you even actually played the game?
How can people digg this up? - djpray2k, on 11/19/2008, -4/+13Skel....you are dead on. My 360 is on everyday playing the likes of COD4, FIFA and GTA....My Wii, not been played in months! If I want to game I choose the 360 as it has the best games, no waggle needed.
- TheAmbushAhead, on 11/19/2008, -2/+11Don't underestimate Super Paper Crysis.
Flip between 2D and 3D! - bloggerjul, on 11/19/2008, -2/+11and one more thing... nintendo is good with gimmicks and knows how to blatantly milk their products... now they're selling a device that would make your motion controls more sensitive...
I can't forget the time I bought a rumble pack for my n64 when it vibration came with the playstation controller.
I now think the whole wii system is a gimmick (I haven't touched it for 5 months now) - Julian88888888, on 11/19/2008, -1/+9I'll believe it when I see it
- Farmer77, on 11/19/2008, -1/+9I remember asking for Nintendo to put out something besides Mario/Zelda games back during the gamecube days. Who would thought now that we are longing for these Mario/Zelda games instead of this Wii Music/Family crap.
