- theplop, on 11/11/2009, -2/+31Ha ha! You work at Best Buy!
You do realize that 98% of BB's customer base are tards right? - MatchStick, on 11/11/2009, -5/+26Working at Worst Buy, customers sometimes come in complaining to me that the device they used to play pirated games on the DS lite doesn't work on the DSi... i laugh in their faces.
- MatchStick, on 11/11/2009, -1/+16yes, believe it or not this had occurred to me.
- scheming, on 11/11/2009, -3/+16the point of r4 and other cartridges has been to emulate ds cartridges for homebrew, or at least that's what their defense could be. unless it's even illegal for them to provide cartridges for that purpose too. (and yes, i know people use cartridges to play roms found online, such as those found on sites like http://www.rom-news.org/list)
- diemunkiesdie, on 11/11/2009, -9/+18Snitches get stitches.
- TWallaceWD, on 11/11/2009, -2/+8Yes, I can't imagine why Nintendo wants to shut down the sale of devices that make it easy to download and play games for free instead of paying for them. ***** Nintendo indeed!
I own a DS with a DSTT cartridge (similar to an R4) and have downloaded dozens of games for free, but I completely understand why Nintendo is doing this and I don't fault them at all for it. Makes perfect business sense. - cawfee, on 11/11/2009, -2/+7M3 all the way!
- robwhite1979, on 11/11/2009, -1/+6I have an EdgeDS card... It`s amazing, bought one for my friend and she loves it...
The biggest advantage is that I can have a bunch of games with me without having to carry around a bunch of carts... That was technically the promise of the DSi in the first place, unfortunately Nintendo didn`t really step up to the plate... Oh well, what can you do (except look for a 3rd party solution that lets you use the hardware you PAID FOR AND OWN THE WAY YOU WANT TO)... - Elranzer, on 11/11/2009, -0/+4R4 has been eclipsed by CycloDS, DSTT, M3 and others in terms of features, SDHC support and game compatibility. Let Nintendo believe that R4 is the end-all, be-all DS flash cart... we all know better.
- TwilightElk, on 11/11/2009, -1/+5It comes in handy when you don't know you have a pirated game. GameStop "unknowingly" sent me a used, pirated copy of Electroplankton. My DSi wouldn't play it, yet my friend's DS lite played it with ease. My mistake was ever trusting GameStop (again) for buying a rare game.
- Pxtl, on 11/11/2009, -0/+3People still use R4 cards? I thought DSTT was pretty much the standard these days.
- MrFisty, on 11/11/2009, -1/+4Well a lot of media allows you to create a set number of back ups for 'protection of your purchase'. It would seem providing the back up media would be fine as it is in itself not criminal. But I'm not sure if there are specific disclaimers in Nintendo's EULA that state you can't copy the games whatsoever or attempt to run any non-stock app on the DS?
I rip a lot of my DS and PSP games so I can put them on one Cyclo cart or memory stick to save having to carry around a bunch of games I already own. Plus with the PSP it improves the battery life by not running off a UMD. - Elranzer, on 11/11/2009, -2/+5They're still not as bad as Sony, shutting down import retailers such as Lik-Sang simply for selling Japanese PS3 units outside of Japan.
- GoldenGlovez, on 11/11/2009, -0/+3I can't walk more than a block in Zhongshan, China without seeing a R4 or Similiar catridge in a shop front. In Beijing they were everywhere for less than 30 RMB.
- runnin17, on 11/11/2009, -1/+4That is because China has no morality and their government doesn't care about copyright laws. F'in commies!!!
- dhVyse, on 11/11/2009, -2/+5Love my M3 Simply.
- daviz0, on 11/12/2009, -0/+2my nephew has the same one and it is awesome, I think I'm gonna have to get myself a DS there are so many good games on it
- KingGorilla, on 11/11/2009, -1/+3DORPHIN!!!!
- andreo, on 11/16/2009, -0/+1I wonder the same thing when I happen to wander into a used game shop and see rare carts. Even if they are priced accordingly there's always a pretty big chance that your buying a fake. And years later if you happen to sell it, your the one on the hook for trying to pass a counterfeit.
- DJMattB241, on 11/13/2009, -0/+1Yeah, I've got an Acekard. I use it to chat in IRC and play NES/SNES games. Oh and to be completely honest, I demoed a couple DS games that I never would have paid money for because they sucked. I also demoed the first Professor Layton game, enjoyed it and... oh my god... bought a copy.
- robwhite1979, on 11/11/2009, -4/+5***** YOU!!!!!!
- mrRB, on 11/12/2009, -0/+1I bought an Acekard specifically to run Colors!, but I've barely touched that program in months. All about DSOrganize for me. Never pirated a thing.
- rand21althor, on 11/12/2009, -0/+1That's what I'm using now, actually.
- vinetari, on 11/11/2009, -1/+2i was sad when that happened :(
- chaosblade77, on 11/11/2009, -0/+1It's obvious this is the direction they are headed. The DSi has a online store, but the available software isn't really comparable to what you would get at retail.
If they can work something out with retailers, I wouldn't be surprised at all if their next handheld had at least an option for digital distribution. - junaeroplane, on 11/11/2009, -3/+3you can easily get r4 software that is continuously updated.
- theplop, on 11/11/2009, -3/+3...but you can get R4's for $10. They are not officially supported, but there are still 3rd party updates coming out. i know many people with R4's that work perfectly. (excluding the fake SDHC versions of course)
- Zarokima, on 11/11/2009, -5/+5After getting my Cyclo my DS game purchases increased, since I was able to be exposed to many more games without having to worry about whether or not I would be wasting my money, much like my PC purchases after I discovered the magic of Bittorrent.
Sure I'm a pirate, but I'm buying a lot more than when I wasn't directly because of that. - twiztidsinz, on 11/11/2009, -3/+3YSMenu... it's based off the DSTT (a clone of the R4) firmware.
There's an easy way to "build" it for R4 cards over on GBATemp: http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=130359 - zaduma, on 11/11/2009, -3/+2You can get DSTT from... >.> somewhere, just look around. $5 dollars
- chokeaduck, on 11/11/2009, -9/+8What was the point of your story? That you work at Best Buy? That you make fun of your customers?
- junaeroplane, on 11/11/2009, -4/+3i love mine.
- AnotherBrian, on 11/11/2009, -12/+10So it seems that this is a single cartridge that will let me put dozens of my games on a single SD card and not have to carry them all around, and I get all kinds of homebrew stuff? This would be the first accessory I would buy if I ever got a DS and Nintendo wants to shut them down.
***** you Nintendo, ***** you right in the ass. - tgc1, on 11/11/2009, -5/+3I think Nintendo should concentrate on making games, not going after home brew (and potentially the piracy that goes with it). Give people an incentive to buy the real deal. For me, it's the artwork mostly. Sometimes it's other things.
- Urrelles, on 11/11/2009, -5/+3IT would have been smarter for Nintindo to realize that people don't want to cart around a bunch of 1 x 1" games that can easily be lost.
It would be better if Nintendo made their own version of Steam or iTunes music store to let people purchase their games online. They could have even made their own flash card device specifically for this.
better yet they could have made the DSi have a built in hard drive for easy downloading of games. Makes the upgrade from the DS lite well worth it. - rand21althor, on 11/11/2009, -6/+3*/glances at R4 card, then realizes it was a dead card anyway, since there is no official support for the card. There are plenty of other similar flash cards that are being supported and updated.
- fragMasterFlash, on 11/11/2009, -8/+3So the first hit was free but now you are hooked?
- triassic911, on 11/11/2009, -5/+0Why are they cracking down on a cartridge that's outdated?
- aychseven, on 11/11/2009, -7/+2this sucks. i noticed their numbers dwindling in akihabara over the past year or so :(
- acardwell3, on 11/11/2009, -13/+8Snitches get stitches.
- Raidy11Moon, on 11/11/2009, -14/+3Nintendo has little bitches that are snitches
- PainToad, on 11/11/2009, -18/+6***** Nintendo.
