- pinstripewizard, on 10/26/2008, -1/+174No they didn't. Nintendo just let him restore his Virtual Console and WiiWare games to his new Wii. His insurance company, on the other hand, replaced his stolen stuff.
- karan1003, on 10/26/2008, -1/+91well, this is misleading.
- TotalHalibut, on 10/26/2008, -0/+56Horribly incorrect title. Buried as inaccurate.
- Nimsim, on 10/26/2008, -0/+44yeah but when Nintendo does it, it's special and we should be thankful.
Be thankful! - NikoKun, on 10/26/2008, -0/+36Wait... wtf... I thought it was standard practice, to restore VC games if you get a new console, as long as you link your console to your Online Nintendo account. (and format the original)
- inactive, on 10/26/2008, -1/+33And why does Nintendo get credit for this anyway? Both Sony and Microsoft have this built in as a feature...as long as he was signed into PSN/Live then redownloading never would have been an issue.
- Zamfir, on 10/26/2008, -0/+30Judging by Nintendo's awesome online skills, probably not.
- n0t0kayipr0mis3, on 10/26/2008, -3/+30hahah the thumbnail is awesome
- Ismith988, on 10/26/2008, -1/+14The hamburgler strikes again!
- HCviolence, on 10/26/2008, -2/+13The good guys gets the money quicker.
- Logal, on 10/26/2008, -0/+9Buried as inaccurate... move along.. nothing to see here.
- Luigison, on 10/26/2008, -1/+9I really wanted to digg this story for him, but it's so inaccurate that I'm going to have to bury it, and submit the actual thread he made:
http://digg.com/nintendo/26_000_items_stolen_Ninte ...
Read what happened in his own words and not what some gaming journalists turn it into.
Edit: Crap. In my haste I made a mistake and added the Wii and WiiWare games. - roflmcwaffles, on 10/26/2008, -0/+7Wildly inaccurate title; Nintendo only replaced his collection of WiiWare and Virtual Console titles.
- chickenloco, on 10/26/2008, -0/+7BURIED AS INACCURATE.
- enclaved, on 10/26/2008, -1/+7yes they do
- idc5, on 10/26/2008, -1/+7Can't they track his Wii when the person that stole it turns it on and goes online?
- aaabbbsss, on 10/26/2008, -0/+6Are you just trying to get attention by putting such a falsifying title on your submission?
- inactive, on 10/26/2008, -0/+5and he still can't play cod4
- diggcommentguy, on 10/26/2008, -3/+8Nintendo doesn't allow you to move any games over to a new system.
- AGONYTUESDAY, on 10/26/2008, -0/+5gotta support the fanboys, nintendo, it's all you've got.
- spepin, on 10/26/2008, -0/+5No, no, no. This isn't right at all!
- Iamien, on 10/26/2008, -0/+5If Nintendo cooperates, couldn't they locate the stolen Wii once it re-connects to the internet? If they find out who has it maybe they can track it back to the burglar. Don't see anything illegal about this as the original owner of the will has it registered and would authorize it.
- benitojuarez, on 10/26/2008, -1/+6they dont put gps's in the wii....
- beerbarron, on 10/26/2008, -0/+5I wonder if Apple would restore my iTunes Library if my house burnt down hmmmm
- pixeleyes, on 10/26/2008, -2/+6They don't usually, but they made an let him because of the circumstances.
- Iamien, on 10/26/2008, -0/+4Only to make sure you kept buying games. Smart business.
- Omaplatypus, on 10/26/2008, -1/+5didn't know that the wii had 66 games worth getting... buried!!
- inactive, on 10/26/2008, -0/+4take it you didnt actually read the article?
- Me0wmix, on 10/26/2008, -0/+4Those game cubes are only worth about $5 each.
- inactive, on 10/26/2008, -1/+5What about the dog?
- HyphySoul, on 10/26/2008, -4/+7"and traumatized his dog."
ewww beastiality! - Scira, on 10/26/2008, -1/+4The only thing that could make this story interesting is pics of the girlfriend.
- inactive, on 10/26/2008, -0/+3I wonder how his Wii could have stored all those games, mine ran out of memory after just a few dozen VC games and a WiiWare game or two.
- DrunkenSavior, on 10/26/2008, -0/+3You are unstable, erikf.
- reelmkonol, on 10/26/2008, -0/+3calm down dude it's just video games
- Gotar, on 10/26/2008, -0/+3A more interesting (and accurate) story linked the same page:

enjoy! - paulvq, on 10/26/2008, -3/+5Dugg for Hamburglar
- iammzac, on 10/26/2008, -1/+3Spring Break 2007 someone broke into my house and stole my Wii. They also stole a few games totaling up to $550 of stolen merchandise. I called nintendo and asked them to track it via the WiFi because I registered my console and they said they can't do anything about it. I still don't have my Wii back. :(
- JudgeMonkey, on 10/26/2008, -0/+2Funny you mention good publicity. Brendan Behan said there is no such thing as bad publicity, but you are proof that isn't true.
- se1zure, on 10/26/2008, -2/+4Sooo... Nintendo didn't make him pay for a game for the third time? Paying for the same game twice is enough I guess... They sure are so generous!
- Iamien, on 10/26/2008, -0/+2They can still track it back to the source. Pawn shops require ID and Ebay/paypal can also be tracked.
Also got this response when I asked Nintendo.

Power Line (Automated Product Info): (425) 885-7529 - hotpuck6, on 10/26/2008, -0/+2This is a great story and worth reading, too bad the submitter is an idiot and can't title it correctly.
- Philbert, on 10/26/2008, -0/+1I'm sure he/she got the proper therapy.
- Philbert, on 10/26/2008, -0/+1There's a good chance the thief may not actually use it and just take it directly to a pawn shop or eBay.
- crickey23, on 10/26/2008, -0/+1It wasn't $26000 worth of electronics, it was just the Virtual Console and WiiWare games....
- m3mn0n, on 10/26/2008, -0/+1I once had 2 songs replaced due to a botched sync, but that's as far as they'd go I bet.
- hotpuck6, on 10/26/2008, -0/+1how many free razors have you ever gotten?
Blades are the real money maker. - inactive, on 10/26/2008, -0/+1Was not aware you could do that. Cool.
Don't really feel like flooding my flash drives with VC game memory, but it's pretty cool to know you can do that. - Hydrohs, on 10/26/2008, -0/+1Title is a lie. I wish Nintendo would so easily replace everything >.>
