- Buy Wii
- Buy Wii Sports
- Play it with family
- Collect dust
At least that's how it is in my house. Still waiting for those great games from the 64 days... - apothekari, on 12/02/2008, -19/+194OK great, I get it the Wii is STILL selling like Icewater in Hell.
Now for those of us dumb enough to buy one, How about MAKING some games for the thing.
Oh wait I know I'll run out and buy Wii music or Animal Town!
...*sigh. - daridave, on 12/02/2008, -5/+144I actually thought Nintendo would be making more. I mean, when the console launched, they claimed profiting sales. That's over 2 years ago. It's hard to believe that over 48 months later, the profit for each console sold is now only 6$. Dugg, but I have a feeling the information is wrong... (since when do I believe what Analysts have to say about the video game industry, anyway?) Can't really hit on SONY for selling at loss, as well -- the PS3 still is a "trojan horse" to put some BD's into peoples homes -- so in the end, is it really a loss ?
- TheKitchenSinkX, on 12/02/2008, -1/+86"Animal Town?" Really?
- chaosblade77, on 12/02/2008, -5/+88I don't believe it. Nintendo supposedly made more than that last year. Production costs would have dropped, not increased.

Also, it says Sony is still losing money on each PS3, which almost certainly isn't the case. At the beginning of the year, Sony had supposedly cut the cost to produce the PS3 in half (making it just over $400 per console). Since then, they have introduced a 65nm RSX which should be cheaper to produce than the 90nm, as well as the fact the production line should have been streamline even further. Not to mention component prices dropping in general. - gametavern, on 12/02/2008, -6/+84With games like this, it's no wonder why Wii is doing so well.

- TheGooseyOne, on 12/02/2008, -1/+53Haha, Animal Town.
- PHJames88, on 12/02/2008, -2/+50It's a casual's system, that's why it's selling so well and why the hardcores piss on it. Yes, it has some decent games, but they're mostly first party. The rest are gimmick games able to attract casuals.
This doesn't matter to the crowd who game maybe one or two hours a week, but for the hardcore who expect blockbuster after blockbuster with deep gameplay, yes, it's a bad buy. Nintendo isn't trying to compete with the 360 and PS3 directly, and yet are still in the race because they've tapped this largely ignored demographic (as far as consoles go).
Overall, it's innovative and I'm sure it will usher in a new era of gaming when it's all said and done, as well as bring new gamers into the fold. - KHook321, on 12/02/2008, -4/+51Hate to say it, but that happened with me too (tho obviously no need to buy Wii Sports). I got the Wii, played it for a while and loved it. But now it just sits there. There aren't enough games I want to play on it, and I'm just not into some of them that require the constant moving. I'd rather play a game to relax.
- linagee, on 12/02/2008, -4/+44If I buy enough PS3s I can put Sony out of business? Cool......
- LeviTheSmith, on 12/02/2008, -4/+42WANT
- bedake, on 12/03/2008, -4/+37I bought a wii this past summer knowing full well its lack of games and apparent weaknesses when viewed in juxtaposition of the 360 and PS3. The reason I decided to go with it was thus: I currently have a 'gaming' desktop capable of playing all the games released for the 360/ps3 that also come out for PC, this alone knocks off any reason I'd want to buy either of the alternatives to the wii outside of the console exclusives. In my eyes, my desktop is my 'hardcore gaming' system, it's what I play when I want to get down and serious with my gaming.
Now that the whole games issue is aside, another reason I got it was that I wanted a system that I can plop my ass down infront of, spark up a blunt and chill out with. Keeping in mind that my PC is for the seriousness, the wii is for just relaxing with a few friends and having fun. It lends ittself to a social atmosphere much more so than the 360 or PS3 (unless everyone is a hardcore gaming nerd)
the whole classic console was a big selling point for me. Being able to relive all my favorite classics is a big plus for me the fact that I can dump every NES/snnes/genesis game onto an SD card and play at will with a controller is freaking amazing. This leads to my next point
Perhaps the biggest selling point was the modability, right now I can play backed up games without a hard mod, and Ive attach an external HDD completely filled with entire series of tv shows (all my favorite Adult Swim shows + whatever else catches my eye) all incredibly easily viewed at will using the GeexBox port.
So for me, the wii is serving my exact purpose for it. It has become one badass media center. - trer, on 12/02/2008, -1/+32What they need to do is come out with Nintendo Wii cereal.
- FormulaVette, on 12/03/2008, -0/+31Japanese months...
- graypjuice, on 12/02/2008, -0/+2848 months???
- Callik, on 12/02/2008, -1/+24Don't knock the Wii, it plays a critical role in my entertainment setup.
...It's just the right height for my portable aerial to pick up a good signal. - DforSpiD, on 12/03/2008, -0/+20They're smaller, and more efficient
- EssPii, on 12/03/2008, -2/+20Not buying them nets them a loss even greater...
- bigfatphony19, on 12/02/2008, -19/+37Try comparing that to 360's list.
Kthxbai - spoiled1, on 12/02/2008, -3/+20I guess somebody is messing up the figures to avoid paying taxes.
- cozinator, on 12/03/2008, -2/+19RE4 was on PS2 two years ago, same with Okami. I'll give you most of the others.
- PeteBeast, on 12/03/2008, -0/+16They took this from Forbes and Forbes is wrong. They claimed that the PS3 was $300 and the Wii was 3 years old with a price of $260. Lost credibility then.
http://www.forbes.com/2008/11/28/nintendo-wii-wii2 ... - LeviTheSmith, on 12/02/2008, -0/+13Wiimote pieces and little Mario's/Luigi's
- Aanidaani, on 12/02/2008, -0/+13This explains why games are $50-60 a piece. Nintendo must be making a killing on Virtual Console.
- briansearles, on 12/02/2008, -1/+13Yeah. Nintendo's gotta be making more than $6 a console. They're printing money and it isn't because of their third party sales.
- LanceUppercut, on 12/02/2008, -1/+12My good arm, or the one soaked in kerosene?
- farfromhere, on 12/03/2008, -6/+17*whoosh*
- kd420, on 12/02/2008, -7/+18Luckily for Nintendo, they make most of the good Wii games anyways.
- DarkShroud, on 12/03/2008, -0/+10And Master Swords!
- inactive, on 12/02/2008, -0/+9He is being buried because the article clearly refutes the comment. (Hell, the DESCRIPTION refutes it...so you don't even have to read the ***** article to know the comment is inaccurate.) Microsoft is NOT losing money on every console. They are breaking even. And they haven't been losing money on each console for over a year now. So to suggest hey are losing "major" money is wrong, and should be buried.
- Nealobus, on 12/02/2008, -2/+11I would assume that they collect $106 per unit sold. Back in the N64 days, Nintendo used to make $20 on each third party cartridge weather it sold or not (and that includes Superman 64).
If there is one thing Nintendo is notorious for it is not passing savings back down to consumers. - meghalc, on 12/02/2008, -2/+11Thats better than ZERO profit.
- kingmanic, on 12/03/2008, -0/+9I'm nto big on the Wii but data suggests it's almost equal per unit time for all 3.
360 > Ps3 > wii but they all hover around 3 games per console per 12 month period.

- BrownManUPS, on 12/02/2008, -5/+13Does anyone else think that Nintendo's next system should go back to a controller? I like the novelty of moving around and stuff, but sometimes the moves take away from the enjoyability of the game. An example would be Twilight Princess....lots of neat ideas with the Wiimote/Nunchuck...but I think I would have loved it a lot better on a standard remote (and maybe you can use a standard remote, but when I tried it for a week I didn't have a remote with me, just the standard wiimote). Another example is Brawl...that game is so much more playable on a gamecube controller than a wiimote IMO.
- icurnvs, on 12/02/2008, -0/+8Looks like you just resolved your own skepticism there :)
- Mullinator, on 12/02/2008, -1/+9Are you blaming Nintendo, or third party developers?
- scabbers, on 12/03/2008, -3/+10Dude, wii sports comes with the damn thing.
- ShyGuy91284, on 12/02/2008, -0/+7I really doubt they care. If I remember correctly, the make about as much (if not maybe a bit more) on each game sold. That little detail called licensing? They make a lot off from it. More than one might think.
- mittortz, on 12/03/2008, -0/+7...and that's a double *whoosh*, not that i thought PeninsulaBoy was being very funny...
- PeninsulaBoy217, on 12/02/2008, -2/+9Deliciouse Bacone
- exnoctem, on 12/03/2008, -0/+7the gamecube was sold at a profit.
- CPOliver, on 12/02/2008, -1/+8Have you considered that first-party games (and obviously accessories) on Nintendo are usually by far the best on their platforms and sell a metric *****-ton?
- lul101, on 12/03/2008, -0/+6What happens when you get a boner when you have that thing on?
- inactive, on 12/03/2008, -4/+10@Coz The PS2 version of RE4 was utter *****.
- LanceUppercut, on 12/02/2008, -2/+8I love when things end in e.
Like Golde, or Shoppe - G-RaZoR, on 12/03/2008, -1/+7I'd have to agree with Lance here, you gotta be more detailed. I don't want to accidentally light the goat on fire.
Please clarify. Thanks. - Ugotownedo, on 12/03/2008, -4/+10Buried as inaccurate.. There is no way that they are making just $6 per a Wii. At least $50.
