Nintendo DS Air
dsfanboy.com — Did any of you draw this exact comparison between the two when you first saw this commercial unveiling Apple's "ultra portable?"

- doshindude, on 02/18/2008, -53/+11except the DS is about 3x as thick.
- MrZop, on 02/18/2008, -3/+22Thanks. we didn't know.
- psg188, on 02/18/2008, -5/+26It has two screens, and two media drives. Also it is quite durable. So obviously it is thicker.
- jrizzo, on 02/18/2008, -2/+12I personally enjoy the headphone port and d-pad. The A and B buttons are cool too. I hardly ever use select though...
- over900000, on 02/18/2008, -1/+8and yet it will fit in a pocket.
- UndeadZmobie, on 02/18/2008, -0/+3The DS Lite is 2.28 inches thick? Huh... you sure about that?
- FreezerB, on 02/18/2008, -0/+10And about 3x enjoyable.
- LastHand, on 02/19/2008, -0/+1WTF....Why is the first Video private??
- aritheman, on 02/18/2008, -5/+48Air is the new BUZZ word
- debuggercll, on 02/18/2008, -2/+28It's a proactive synergistic dynamic turnkey solution consolidated to leverage the next generation long tail enterprise framework paradigm shift.
- MiDri, on 02/18/2008, -0/+21I have no idea what you are selling, but I feel that I should invest in at least 3000 shares of it.
- Harbinger67, on 02/18/2008, -0/+1That was some outside the box thinking. I'm on board.
- MrFisty, on 02/18/2008, -0/+2Well then we need a new name. Something along the lines of Poochy. Only more proactive.
- stevealford, on 02/18/2008, -0/+0Bingo!
- thisisntjon, on 02/18/2008, -1/+16Nike Air
- pintomp3, on 02/18/2008, -1/+16new? i remember nike using it back in the 80's
- debuggercll, on 02/18/2008, -2/+28It's a proactive synergistic dynamic turnkey solution consolidated to leverage the next generation long tail enterprise framework paradigm shift.
- shadoturtl, on 02/18/2008, -18/+32The real funny thing here is that someone still considers the MBA worthy for discussion. Look. even the best home run hitters strike out occasionally. The second attempt should be better. What should worry Apple is the loss of early adopters. After the Iphone pricing, the Ipod Touch additional apps charge, Apple fans are less likely to jump in line when Steve speaks.
- gmeinsch, on 02/18/2008, -6/+29" Apple fans are less likely to jump in line when Steve speaks."
I doubt that...- itsthebrod, on 02/18/2008, -5/+8Just like religious people and people who believe in psychics, they'll forget the misses and only remember the hits.
- mellenger, on 02/18/2008, -0/+3I think apple's strategy is always to innovate into new areas, and then to do incremental changes once in those areas. Just enough change to keep people upgrading. The intro of the MBA just put in place apple's design decisions for ultra-portables, and now the incremental changes will turn it into a must have product. Just like they have done with the macbook, the iMac, the ipod and the iphone.
- gmeinsch, on 02/18/2008, -6/+29" Apple fans are less likely to jump in line when Steve speaks."
- Aindrea, on 02/18/2008, -3/+112no, not really.
- daurkin, on 02/18/2008, -0/+6Although the Parody commercial did make me think how long it's been since I touched an envelope. I haven't mailed anything requiring a stamp in years.
- darlyn, on 02/18/2008, -0/+2Agreed. This article is based entirely on general similarities. Using this author's logic, one could just as easily compare the Air to an iPod, iPhone, CD, and for that matter, even a portable keyboard. Just because something can fit in an envelope, looks pretty, and its meant to be portable do not mean it is comparable to the degree the author casually states.
- finalcloud33, on 02/18/2008, -20/+7No... How dare you assume you know my thoughts, you are not president Bush!
- iamyak, on 02/18/2008, -39/+6Buried for comparing a DS to a macbook.
The macbook air was made by God! /elitist fanboy
get over yourselves- error2k2, on 02/18/2008, -0/+2Its not comparing, it's a spoof. Not to be taken seriously.
- TheMarenum, on 02/19/2008, -0/+1If macbook air was made by god, then god was made by nintendo ds.
- iRoy, on 02/18/2008, -14/+17If I ever got a letter shaped like that I would ***** throw it in a river.
- cnot3, on 02/18/2008, -3/+4Throw it in the ocean. Back from whenst you came!
- koopertrooper, on 02/18/2008, -3/+1is that an arrested development reference?
- koopertrooper, on 02/18/2008, -2/+6i would probably think it was a bomb or something...
- girlpirate, on 02/18/2008, -0/+14I would recommend never working for the postal service. paranoia like that would make you crazy in about 2 minutes.
all those toy recalls means a lot of parents sending toys in the mail. not always removing the batteries. the first time someone picks up a parcel that makes beeping noises is always funny. - EXreaction, on 02/18/2008, -1/+2Why?
- Jektal, on 02/18/2008, -1/+9Dude, you just threw out a free DS. Dumb ass.
- Nin10dude, on 02/18/2008, -1/+2You must not get all that much mail. Though it is a pretty obscure way to dispose of thick mail, you seem to have a routine down, so maybe you do get a lot.
- iRoy, on 02/18/2008, -0/+1My point is that the damn looks extremely awkward, the whole point of the MacBook Air ad was to show-off how inconspicuously thin it was. A DS in a ***** white envelope just looks stupid.
That video was pointless, I love how the idiot actually sealed the envelope then struggled to open it once the gay music kicked in.
- cnot3, on 02/18/2008, -3/+4Throw it in the ocean. Back from whenst you came!
- psg188, on 02/18/2008, -14/+101There is a huge difference. The DS Lite is sleek, affordable, and it does what it is supposed to do. The Mac Air is sleek, expensive, and doesn't do things most computers should do. (Removable battery, multiple USB ports, a media drive)
The only thing they have in common is that they both look nice.- Midou, on 02/18/2008, -8/+23Yes, its horribly impractical. You pay much more then what its worth, for a GIMMICKY feature, of having a very thin laptop. I don't remebere too many people complaining about their laptops being much too thick, you win some space by buying the thinner laptop, but you lose out for all the extra things you have to use with it, like the disk drive.
- Slackdragon, on 02/18/2008, -1/+1Excuse me, could you hold my latte while I juggle all these peripherals that suddenly tank the "cool" factor as I wrangle arms-lengths of cable to be able to do basic things like use optical media?
- domokunt, on 02/18/2008, -2/+4I'd use it as a cool tray for my dell.
- kaythecraven, on 02/18/2008, -0/+2Oh, it has multiple usb ports. I'm definitely buying.
- dclowd9901, on 02/19/2008, -1/+3Hell, even the DS Lite has a removable battery.
- Midou, on 02/18/2008, -8/+23Yes, its horribly impractical. You pay much more then what its worth, for a GIMMICKY feature, of having a very thin laptop. - kvark, on 02/18/2008, -11/+3Air is the new pink.
- projjalc, on 02/18/2008, -0/+8There was an old pink?
- scbysnx, on 02/18/2008, -0/+3yeah.. the old pink was purple
- projjalc, on 02/18/2008, -0/+8There was an old pink?
- Adam420, on 02/18/2008, -14/+2When are they gonna come out with a new modle? They usually have a few different ones by now...
- cnot3, on 02/18/2008, -12/+7Return to sender.
- NalinDecoded, on 02/18/2008, -12/+7That was brilliant. Enjoyed a good laugh on that one.
- Whaines, on 02/18/2008, -1/+21So....what's similar? They both look nice? Lame.
- girlpirate, on 02/18/2008, -0/+9they both fit inside of other things. next we'll see a video of someone putting their cell phone in an even smaller envelope!
- unrealmp3, on 02/18/2008, -2/+2In fact they are pretty much different, in the difference that the Nintendo DS is durable and enjoyable.
- girlpirate, on 02/18/2008, -0/+9they both fit inside of other things. next we'll see a video of someone putting their cell phone in an even smaller envelope!
- kahnartizt07, on 02/18/2008, -17/+7Give it a disc drive, built-in wifi(among other things), and make it just a little thicker and it might be ok. They sacrificed design for functionality and thats where they lost and the DS won. Not to say they were even competing but you know what I'm saying.
I mean, *****! The DS has built in wifi!- saxreturns, on 02/18/2008, -4/+16Do you seriously think the Air doesn't have wi-fi built in? If so, please don't reproduce.
- monospaced, on 02/18/2008, -1/+11Are you implying that the Air has no Wi-Fi? Why the fu*k do you think it's called Air?
- joltjake, on 02/18/2008, -7/+2Because it's like, air, it's like nothing at all, it's like, you've just bought an apple product, and you've got the tingle. **sarcasm**
- Radan, on 02/18/2008, -4/+6I completely agree with you kahnartizt07! Apple should totally make a notebook which has an optical drive, a faster processor, additional ports and a better graphic card, though a bit thicker. They could call it Macbook Pro! That would really fit.
- monospaced, on 02/18/2008, -12/+39The Macbook Air is actually thinner than the DS.
- sleepwalkers, on 02/18/2008, -6/+32Also far more impractical.
- usingpond, on 02/18/2008, -7/+3How is a gaming device "practical"?
- TomRemixed, on 02/18/2008, -2/+6I find it far more practical to buy a $129 DS than spending $1799 on a weak lap top that just looks nice.
- hixxy, on 02/18/2008, -0/+7Not to mention it can be used for much more than gaming.
Hello R4 Card.
- usingpond, on 02/18/2008, -7/+3How is a gaming device "practical"?
- EXreaction, on 02/18/2008, -0/+2Just makes it sound like I could break it in half if I picked it up wrong...
- hixxy, on 02/18/2008, -6/+1Seriously!? The Macbook Air is THINNER than an Nintendo DS? I'M GOING TO CUM!
/sarcasm- Dgen_X, on 02/18/2008, -2/+4gross
- sleepwalkers, on 02/18/2008, -6/+32Also far more impractical.
- sleepyjjk, on 02/18/2008, -8/+6Amusing when not taken too seriously
- Ph0biA, on 02/18/2008, -16/+4Wait, so the original DS's werent portable enough? How portable is portable now adays? Granted, I want to see a game system the size of a credit card, but coming out with the same thing multiple times with very few differences is a Windows thing, not a Nintendo thing.
- Jeffler, on 02/18/2008, -0/+15Not a nintendo thing? Are you serious?
Game Boy -> Game Boy Pocket
NES -> Top Loading NES
SNES -> Mini-SNES
N64 -> Same Basic Shape But a Billion Colors
Gamecube -> See N64
GBC -> See N64
GBA -> GBASP -> Game Boy Micro
DS -> DS Lite
Everything except for the cube, n64, wii, GB Colour, and Virtual Boy have had redesigns...3 of those have had colour relaunces, and 1 of them is still recent. - Coffeedemon, on 02/18/2008, -1/+4"but coming out with the same thing multiple times with very few differences is a Windows thing, not a Nintendo thing."
Really?
Gameboy, Gameboy Pocket, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance, Gameboy Advance SP, Gameboy Micro, Nintendo DS (3-4 colors) , Nintendo DS Lite (3-4 colors), Numerous colored cases for the N64, Color variations on the gamecube. I think the SNES and NES had only a single variation so I left them out. - girlpirate, on 02/18/2008, -0/+3honestly, I dont know what they were thinking with the design of the original DS. it is clunky and looks like something out of the 80s. The original DS doesnt fit in my pocket whereas the DS lite does. so yeah. the original is not as portable. or as shiny.
- TheMarenum, on 02/19/2008, -0/+1DS lite is so much nicer. The screen lis brighter, it looks a lot cooler, feels better. It is the way the DS should be.
- Jeffler, on 02/18/2008, -0/+15Not a nintendo thing? Are you serious?
- deaftly, on 02/18/2008, -13/+43And the mac fanboys continue to digg down everyone
- TheMarenum, on 02/19/2008, -1/+1I'm a mac fanboy, but a DS fanboy above all.
- Philbert, on 02/19/2008, -2/+1They're both lame.
- TheMarenum, on 02/19/2008, -0/+1Haha, dude I saw a picture of you... Took your comment as a complement.
- TheMarenum, on 02/19/2008, -1/+1I'm a mac fanboy, but a DS fanboy above all.
- AsSubtleAsABrik, on 02/18/2008, -15/+5Dugg for the video of the DS in the envelope.
- TomRemixed, on 02/18/2008, -1/+4O RLY?
I thought you were going to digg it for something else.
- TomRemixed, on 02/18/2008, -1/+4O RLY?
- Mackofalltrades, on 02/18/2008, -9/+3Buried fpr the DS Video using that annoying cell phone commercial song. (Might only apply to Canadians)
- petard, on 02/18/2008, -2/+6Its the same song in the Mac Book Air commercial, and yes, it is quite annoying.
- D3koy, on 02/18/2008, -1/+3It was the song used in the Macbook Air commercials....did you not watch the Air video right beneath it?
- xsquirrel378x, on 02/18/2008, -0/+2advertisiers love annoying jingles and songs. it helps to put in etch in the brains of consumers. its really sad
- vibrokatana, on 02/18/2008, -5/+6So this is what happens when fanboism collides in a horribly ugly manner..
- UbIwerks, on 02/18/2008, -6/+10Hmmmm... there's something missing in that video. Can't quite put my finger on it. Wait... perhaps...YES!
Smug! Boatloads and boatloads of smug! :)- Jawsh91, on 02/19/2008, -0/+1That itself is pretty smug...
- mlvassallo, on 02/18/2008, -3/+9A blog just about DS Advertisements? And I thought that I had too much time on my hands.
- InfinitySnatch, on 02/18/2008, -6/+41So what features does the Air have besides being easy to mail?
- Arramol, on 02/18/2008, -1/+24It makes your wallet as thin as it is?
- betrayed, on 02/18/2008, -0/+7zing!
- Arramol, on 02/18/2008, -1/+24It makes your wallet as thin as it is?
- dajernts, on 02/18/2008, -8/+8I just wish Apple would come up with less childish names for things. Is it possible to keep a straight face saying things like iChat and iLife, not to mention the host of other i-products they make. Not for me. Now they have Air which sounds just as corny but everyone's already started using that too.
- Stradenko, on 02/18/2008, -1/+21You sound awfully iRate.
- Coffeedemon, on 02/18/2008, -1/+1Thought it would be a mock up or something. Wasn't quite "white" enough in the room but they managed to nail the music - ***** pseudo sensitive coffee shop tunes which no one could possibly take offense to.
- TalkGibberish, on 02/18/2008, -1/+1Did anyone else try to match up the two songs? if you start them quickly, you can pause then play until they line up
- Enderplayer1, on 02/18/2008, -0/+4It would have been better if they used a gameboy pocket...
- hixxy, on 02/18/2008, -0/+0It would've been better if they had used a gameboy pocket, then pushed up it's screen just like the commercial.
- ZephyrNinety, on 02/18/2008, -2/+3Why do people think the Macbook Air doesn't have built in Wi-Fi? That's about all it has.
- UpSetMartin, on 02/18/2008, -2/+4nobody thinks that
- kbaz, on 02/19/2008, -0/+1@ UpSetMartin: That was the best comment in the world.
- UpSetMartin, on 02/18/2008, -2/+4nobody thinks that
- and303, on 02/18/2008, -0/+22Am I the only one seeing this as a cute parody for DS fans and not an attack on Apple?
- DigTheDoug, on 02/19/2008, -0/+1Stop being rational.
- Beerduck, on 02/19/2008, -0/+1You have to be, since between the two, the DS is actually a good product.
- eon42, on 02/18/2008, -0/+1Dugg for "WTF????"
- itsthebrod, on 02/18/2008, -0/+7Pity they took the time and effort to make that commercial and then picked a font color at the end making half the text unreadable.
- ElBeh, on 02/18/2008, -0/+3Wow? Two thin pieces of technology?! One must have copied from the other!
- enakra, on 02/18/2008, -1/+9Who the hell is digging this?!
- alexanderthepsy, on 02/18/2008, -2/+1This wouldn't have been so bad if they hadn't used that god-awful song.
- Jertje, on 02/18/2008, -0/+1Shaky kid-hands. Creepy stuff.
- usingpond, on 02/18/2008, -0/+3Why did you quote the "ultra portable" as if that's up to debate? Hate it or love it, that's pretty much what it is, dude.
- Velirno, on 02/19/2008, -0/+1Must've been like me. I wished the Air would've been 10 inches instead of 13, but it's still and ultra-portable. I do keep pointing out that the Eee has 3 usb ports and a card reader though...
- MattH, on 02/18/2008, -4/+6the DS is $129 and it also connects to the Internet via Wi-Fi and has a browser so its has about the same functionality as the MBA .
- shibainu, on 02/18/2008, -0/+1i interofficed my macbook air over a week ago to the IT department. those mailroom clerks theived it i know it.
- tmslak, on 02/18/2008, -0/+2buried for stupidity.
- Slackdragon, on 02/18/2008, -0/+2Apple needs to get back into the PDA market.
- BryanJK, on 02/19/2008, -0/+1they kinda are with the iPod Touch and iPhone, they just need to add some optional PDA apps
- Bozmanbeyond, on 02/18/2008, -4/+3OK the Mac Air is nice, but what can it do for me? Games? No i don't think so. Play a disk, No. So what can it do other then surf the Internet and fit into a manila envelope, will it help me get an education and a job that pays like Steve Jobs has. I just don't fit the description of a Mac. I play PC games and console games, I'm not a very neat person, I don't like to hug trees, I hate things that are all white, I'm not a businessman, I don't like java shops, I'm not Asian, I'm not a collage student, I don't talk with my hands, and I'm not a spoiled little brat who's parents buy them everything (I wish I was) So I guess I'll stick with a DS, PSP, Zune, PS3, 360, Wii, and my own built gaming PC rig so this just makes me average joe and not good enough for a Mac of anysort.
- mateusap, on 02/18/2008, -1/+0Dugg for the 80's girl
- TecK415, on 02/18/2008, -1/+3I don't understand why people are digging this. Lots of things fit in envelopes. Cool man.
- Mothity, on 02/18/2008, -0/+1ive heard that they'll be making an even lighter version of the DS lite by chucking the GBA slot. so will that make it some sort of 'lite air' when they name it?
- christopherRB, on 02/18/2008, -0/+1and I thought the Macbook Air ad was stupid..
- say592, on 02/19/2008, -0/+1Yes, I drew the comparison long ago.
Its an everyday fact that Apple and Nintendo tend to share ideas. - wolfboyZ, on 02/19/2008, -0/+1The point of the Macbook Air ad is to show how thin it is by the seamless fit inside of an envelope, which it accentuates with the teardrop shape. This crappy parody, on the other hand, has the clunky DS protruding the envelope like it should have been shipped in box.
Whooosh. - KireGoTI, on 02/19/2008, -0/+1Great. Now some ***** is going to start mailing people electronics at random. The last thing I want is to get a manilla envelope in the mail one day that would have contained a new computer, if it hadn't been completely destroyed by going through the postal service.
- ubergeek09, on 02/19/2008, -0/+3The only difference is that the DS is actually a good idea. The Macbook Air.. not so much.
