- badjoke, on 10/10/2007, -1/+49This is just showing Nintendo's path toward the Wii.
Also, "after the jump" can eat me. I want to smash something every time I read that stupid line. - 10001110101, on 10/10/2007, -0/+19My 'ditto' after the jump.
- TrevorBelmont, on 10/10/2007, -0/+17Buried for grievous "after the jump" abuse.
- Klarth, on 10/10/2007, -3/+13I'd say something clever about goats and bridges, but essentially the message here is a simple one:
Get *****, troll. - MWeather, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Nintendo never came out with a power glove in the first place. That was a 3rd party peripheral.
- NeoTechni, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7" This lacks the capability for 2-handed separate motion controlling "
Then why does it split in 2? - FrogKermit, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8I wish I could play half-life 1 on my wii... It took awhile, but atleast the Wii finally got a FPS that controlls right: Metroid Prime 3. But yeah, I'm glad the controller(s?) turned out how they did. I don't think you could improve the final design.
- DelMonte, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Somehow, these pictures reminded me of this article:
http://www.joystiq.com/2005/05/15/nintendo-revolution-pics-on-gamespot-forums/
Keep in mind that this article was posted BEFORE we knew what the Wii console and its controllers would look like.
And take a look at the console picture... Sure it looks like a Photoshoped Mac mini. But some details make me think that this was a mock-up done by someone who saw an actual prototype.
First, look at the SD card door below the CD slot! It's almost the same, including that little embossed line! Then, look at these 4 blue leds with dots . .. ... .... indicating the player number! While it wasn't found on the final console itself, it's exactly what can be seen on the released Wii-mote. It's by far the most accurate prediction of the Wii, and it's too close to be just a prediction. - Hockey37, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Well at least with the ignore button, I don't have to anymore.
- VahnRPG, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6I love the power glove. It's so bad.
- CheckPlease, on 10/10/2007, -6/+10So, when is Nintendo coming out with the new Power Glove?
- TheBean, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I have two gyro mice. Gyration makes good mice for media center pc's and presentations but they suck for gaming. Nintendo made it much more accurate with the sensor bar and easier to use with button layout.
- badboys213, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I had a gyration mouse a long time ago. Quite possibly the worst mouse I ever owned. Although it was fun playing Battlefield: 1942 with the motion control.
- MBHoy, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Adblock Plus = No jump
http://adblockplus.org/ - Shaflugi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Where would you put that? If you got rid of the d-pad, then you'd lose the NES/Genesis functionality, anywhere else would be in the way. I guess they'd just have to redesign the whole thing.
- flair1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Metroid Prime 3 rocks. The controls are amazing!
- jedikv, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1That controller kind of reminds me of the Microsoft Sidewinder FPS (Dual Strike) controller released
http://www.idsa.org/idea/idea2000/images/S9959.jpg - NecroSexy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Umm, I'm lefty and I can use my right hand. You never played those TI-8x games w/ the D-pad on the right?
- Septimus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Almost as old as the pressure plate designed for the Amiga in 1984... well designed as the cover up anyway. Ideas are no longer original.
- carstairs, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I'd rather have the Classic Controller and Wiimote seperate. Good call, Nintendo. Plus, I don't need any extra help in getting arthritis.
- porksoda1978, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1It reminds me of the time about six months before Nintendo revealed the Wii controller that I discovered the patent for the controller and published lots of information about it in great detail, even including technical drawings and my own rendition of this exact same prototype. I submitted the story to IGN, Gizmodo, anybody I could find. Nobody seems to have listened.

http://thenintendorevolution.blogspot.com/2005/04/what-good-is-break-apart-controller.html - TheSavant, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I had a controller for the NES that replaced the d-pad with motion control. It was a one-handed thing that kinda' looked like a flight stick. It was a little awkward to use but still cool.
- Shaflugi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Dugg down for the classic reference. I've read this at least 5 times this week, it's getting ***** old.
- MatchStick, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Presumably, once you separate them, the left piece becomes pretty useless (imagine playing that boxing game). It splits in 2 to free up the right handle.
- Markpdotcom, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Exactly... all lefties should adapt or have their left hand severed... that'll teach em!
- grumbel, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Interestingly none of the Gyration technology is in the Wiimote, which works by accelerometer and IR image sensor, not a gyroscopic sensor.
- MatchStick, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1actually I did, and yes i can use my right hand...but if I'm holding a Wiimote type device for 1 hand, that hand is my left one.
- jellygraph, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Nintendo invested in Gyration and acquired patent licenses and technology from them, which was what they used to design the Wii controller...
http://www.gamecubicle.com/news-nintendo_gyration.htm
just so you know. - MatchStick, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1"I don't think you could improve the final design."
I think a thumb-stick on the Wiimote couldn't hurt. - MagicCake, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1"I love the power glove. It's so bad."
Edit: Damn, didn't notice that Mr. VahnRPG beat me to it down below... - Yareking, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2they are ugly, and look breakable
- yoda17, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I have a gyration @work. It works perfectly. It also sucks. *EVERYONE* likes the table mouse better.
- Dodobutt222, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1My ditto to your ditto that nobody cares about in a reply that will most likely not be read, after the jump.
I totally agree with badjoke, though, that line always annoyed the ***** out of me. - smithster, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Looks... uncomfortable
- Callaway7, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Screenshots look like HL. Would be nice if it was on the Wii =)
- Roy911, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0Too, late, we already did.
- JT114881, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0This could of been a fatality for the wii console.
- MagicCake, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0Dugg for the classic reference
- Adam420, on 10/10/2007, -8/+3since when can u transform the ps3 controller?
- MatchStick, on 10/10/2007, -9/+1Looks pretty cool, and who's to say Ninty won't still release something like this for the Wii?
2 problems though:
1) This lacks the capability for 2-handed separate motion controlling (i.e. Wii Sports - Boxing), and
2) This controller is less tolerant of us lefties. We'd have to learn to use that right handle with both hands. - UtopiaInTheSky, on 10/10/2007, -16/+3Motion-sensing is the future of gaming. Not. Bury me, people, but you still had to read my comment.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -32/+22001???
Can you say "Old News"???
Doesn't the PS3 have something like this now anyway?
