- krische, on 12/11/2007, -0/+158Why is there a picture of a key for the article?
- imikedaman, on 12/11/2007, -7/+56So the only real change is making the top screen larger, even though that would completely ruin the aspect ratio of the entire game library? What a lame mockup.
- Klarth, on 12/11/2007, -1/+45Uh... Macbook-style hinge. How the hell do we get at the shoulder buttons?
- kablammo, on 12/11/2007, -1/+31Before I defend you, "NippleNutz", I just want to point out that a man with the name "NippleNutz" should maybe have some empathy towards said *****.
With that out of the way, I totally agree. I'm not sure where the term "after the jump" originated from, but all the Weblogs Inc sites seem to pour it on like gravy. - cerealjynx, on 12/11/2007, -6/+35Riiight. More like Nintendo DSP
- ChefEspeff, on 12/11/2007, -0/+28My favorite part of the article is the poll at the end. The options are basically,
a) Yes Gizmodo, your idea is AWESOME
b) Yes Gizmodo, your idea is AWESOME
c) Yes Gizmodo, your idea is AWESOME
d) Yes Gizmodo, your idea is AWESOME
e) Gizmodo, your idea is probably awesome, but I prefer Sony products to Nintendo ones - lintmonkey, on 12/11/2007, -1/+28Hello black bars for older titles.
- JonnyTrombone, on 12/11/2007, -5/+31So, wait, why are we digging what some moron at Gizmodo thought would be cool to see in a new DS?
- v0yeur, on 12/11/2007, -3/+272 PSP's in SLI
- sparced, on 12/11/2007, -0/+22What? Wifi is already there and the browser is a current optional extra. The cartridge and added ram from Opera.
- JLecker, on 12/11/2007, -1/+23Because someone fails the Image section.
- Cyber_Akuma, on 12/11/2007, -0/+18You need that to start the DS's graphics engine
- addiggt, on 07/06/2009, -0/+13Anyone notice the submitter's username?
- Jibberwalk, on 12/11/2007, -1/+14So, I think we should simpy digg this article up to 5000+ so it has a chance to make it on Diggnation.
Simply because of the submitter's name. - Dylson, on 12/11/2007, -4/+16That isn't something i'd buy.
- whiteyMcBrown, on 12/11/2007, -2/+14Absolutely no imagination at all... This reminds me of some of the iPhone mockups people were doing. It thing it would be nice if they did a sort of two-tone thing.. maybe a different coloured logo and bezel around the whole outside of it. Widescreen is nice. I think I prefer both screens being the same size. 6 buttons on the front would be nice (like street fighter arcade setup).
- Flame15, on 12/11/2007, -0/+11Well, they ARE a gaming company...
- negativefx, on 12/11/2007, -1/+10Don't they have anything better to do than draw up pictures of what they wish the DS was? Lame.
- ps2pers0n, on 12/11/2007, -3/+12looks kinda like a Nintendo DS...
- carstairs, on 12/11/2007, -4/+12I don't want my DS to look like a PS3.
Oh, and if Battalion Wars didn't work with all of the Cube's buttons, how would it work on the DS? - dasdef, on 12/12/2007, -0/+8this is stupid. How would you press the shoulder buttons?!?
- rspeed, on 12/11/2007, -1/+9If you read the two previous replies to this comment you'd have seen that it's perfectly feasible. Since the dot pitch (DPI) remained consistent they could simply add black bars to the sides and top, making the experience in those games identical.
Regardless, this won't ever happen since Nintendo doesn't seem to give a crap about anything but games. - mywhitenoise, on 12/11/2007, -0/+7Dye his hair? What color?
- nights0223, on 12/11/2007, -0/+6Maybe because you still control it like Advance Wars, but the action is 3D like Battalion Wars?
- EXreaction, on 12/11/2007, -0/+6Buried. Looks like *****, and the poll on the site is absolutely retarded.
- BenKenobi88, on 12/11/2007, -0/+6I think it would be lame to have a bigger screen on top though. New games that utilize both screens acting as one, like a Contra 4-type game, would be very weird because of the differences in screen size.
- Pake, on 12/12/2007, -0/+6Well ***** me. Looks like I'm going to have to get one soon.
- Klarth, on 12/11/2007, -0/+6Um. It's a hypothetical next-gen DS, not another redesign.
- Klarth, on 12/11/2007, -0/+5Congratulations. You have transcended ergonomics.
- lintmonkey, on 12/11/2007, -4/+9It's a metaphor that introducing this (or a product similar to this) will be "key" to Nintendo's further financial success. Or something.
- SkippyDoorknob, on 12/11/2007, -1/+6It's your key to knowledge and understanding!
- chispito, on 12/11/2007, -0/+5imike, the point is that the dot pitch would remain consistent, so it would essentially function the same way.
- PATSCRU, on 12/11/2007, -0/+5It's essentially the same as "we'll be back, after these messages" and i hate it. The mere concept of making someone click and load a whole new page of ads for an extra paragraph of content is one of the reasons why i hate blogs. That kind of ***** could easily be done with a drop-down button, but that would require blogs to spend more time coding and less time ad-whoring, and that's not going to happen anytime soon.
- davidrools, on 12/11/2007, -0/+5Wifi on the DS lets you play against people over the internet (with friend codes) or ad-hoc within the wifi's range. wifi is the only way the DS does multiplayer. and games that use it? mario kart, super mario ds, tetris ds, etc. etc. every multiplayer ds game etc. etc.
- cynic573, on 12/11/2007, -2/+6This will cripple my hands. Ergonomics anyone?
- mywhitenoise, on 12/11/2007, -0/+4*****.
- PhoenixAvatar2, on 12/11/2007, -0/+4Because it's a mock-up...?
- DanteDefiance, on 12/11/2007, -4/+8New to the blog scene?
- airwalkery2k, on 12/11/2007, -0/+4Make it compatible with Wii's virtual console games and I'll be snug as a bug with whatever Nintendo hands my way.
- inactive, on 12/11/2007, -2/+5OhboyOhboyOhboyOhboyOhboy! YES!
- InitialDMP5, on 12/11/2007, -0/+3why toss in what is already there? WiFi is standard on the DS right now. This article is about improving the DS with NEW features/improvements for its next generation. Which is the only reason they didn't mention it.
- Laxaloot, on 12/12/2007, -1/+4How is using the original design but implementing the features people want from its competitor a bad thing?
- sparced, on 12/11/2007, -0/+3Ten minutes of some novices time in Adobe Illustrator accompanied by "MacBook hinge" prediction is a front page Digg story. What else do you come to expect.
- Cyber_Akuma, on 12/11/2007, -0/+2.... why the hell is one screen bigger than the other? And not even the same aspect ratio of the other?
- kurtwinter, on 12/12/2007, -0/+2I'd be happy with an integrated browser, faster processor and OpenGL graphics, as well as a micro, mini or regular SD slot. The 3D graphics are currently a little odd and difficult to port, and I wouldn't mind paying a little more for the ability to play good FPS on it.
That, and stop solely marketing to kids. Its difficult to shop for games for my DS lite because its all ponies and princesses. - Cyber_Akuma, on 12/11/2007, -0/+2.... they took a DS, photoshopped it to look glossy like an Apple product, but also make it look completely fake, then slapped a PSP screen on the top.
What the hell is this monstrosity? - chispito, on 12/11/2007, -0/+2Klarth made a good point. With a macbook style hinge you could have no shoulder buttons. Even if you did ditch them, it would be horribly uncomfortable to hold. In fact, the hard plastic edges on the DSL cut into my hands enough as it is, making those edges aluminum would only make it worse. I like higher rez screens, but having to source two different panels would increase costs too much.
- aywwts4, on 12/12/2007, -3/+5Really, thats all this is, "lets make a DS, only... copy every benefit of a psp and give it two screens. least original idea ever. If Nintendo is really coming out with a worthy successor, it is at least going to expand in the direction the DS paved.
So I made this mockup, it's much more realistic, the Nintendo QS, because if two screens are better than one... http://www.flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=2104604158 ... - Dracusis, on 12/12/2007, -0/+2It looks like the love child of a current DS Lite and a PSP Slim. Now if only you could run PSP home bru and play DS/GBA games on it... *drool*
- Shaflugi, on 12/12/2007, -0/+2Not COMPLETELY useless. The screen could just be scaled down like it is for GBA games.
