- totorototoro, on 10/10/2007, -2/+43Thats just console sales? Not PC sales for Bioshock?
- amoo3, on 10/10/2007, -4/+36Because its really the only good game (along with TP and maybe Paper Mario) out for the hardcore wii-ers like myself. Theres got o be at least 3-4 mil. of us by now... Its about damn time.
By the way, MP3:C is actually a pretty awesome game. - lordtyros, on 10/10/2007, -1/+29I can't think of anyone who would disagree with that statement. For about a year and a half, original xbox was nothing more than a halo tv adapter.
- bradallen18, on 10/10/2007, -12/+37and i ask you. which console has the least amount of good games?
people HAD to buy metroid. - estvir, on 10/10/2007, -6/+25http://digg.com/nintendo_wii/Rumor_control_Metroid_sold_over_400_000_units_in_first_week
- theghoul, on 10/10/2007, -1/+19Screw the competition and buy them both. They are awesome games.
- logicalnoise, on 10/10/2007, -3/+17Well if Metroid can sell more than 4 million copies we'll see.
- fantasticFlan, on 10/10/2007, -4/+18hardcore.
- dvsbastard, on 10/10/2007, -3/+15Metroid is a well known and established franchise so I would be very surprised if it didn't sell well (and the fact it is a great game helps)... It is hard for a new game such as Bioshock to compete against popular franchises (your Mario's, Halo's, Ratchet and Clanks and such) irrespective of how good it really is....
- Gigabutt, on 10/10/2007, -5/+15hardcore?
- ferretpants, on 10/10/2007, -5/+14Wow, a well established franchise outsold a new IP. Color me shocked...
- n0c0ntr0l, on 10/10/2007, -3/+12Hardcore!
- harrypl0tter, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10The hit titles....bioshock, gears of war, halo.......
- xerus, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Yep... Hype is fun.
- kaelyiesta, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Props for trying to stick the entire article in the description. Almost not worth going to the main site for such a small amount of text.
- LordRahl72, on 10/10/2007, -17/+25Probably has something to do with Metroid being the ONLY good game for the Wii.
- ArmchairAthlete, on 10/10/2007, -3/+11It also seems like most people I've talked to who play/own Bioshock didn't even know about System Shock.
- Bartboy919, on 10/10/2007, -6/+13Err... The Xbox 360 has plenty of exclusives. Mass effect is a great example of this. And I have a pretty good feeling that Bioware wont put it on the pc due to the fact that they are working on Dragon Age right now.
- SkippyDoorknob, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Resident Evil 4 for the Wii has sold amazingly well, especially considering it's a port of the Gamecube version. If you make a great game, people will buy it, 3rd party or not.
- liquisoft, on 10/10/2007, -14/+20I'm not surprised. The game has had me hooked since I bought it last week. I've played it every day, and I'm still going.
I was able to put Bioshock down after a couple hours. It's a good game, but it doesn't entice me to continue exploring to look for something new like Metroid does. - Epacitythug, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Zelda Twilight Princess
- chrisgnv, on 10/10/2007, -5/+11There are a ridiculous amounts of reasons to get a 360 over a PC! It's cheaper than building up a gaming PC and keeping that regularly updated to ensure smooth gameplay, and you never have to worry about framerate hitches, or updating your drivers and keeping everything compatible. You also get to play your games on a massive TV if you so please, whereas the majority of PC users use a 20" monitor or smaller. Sure, you can hook your PC up to your (HD)TV, but who lugs their tower around to do that? Not many people. Also, the community and community support is far better on the 360 than the PC with Xbox Live, and there's no argument against that. Finally, the game selection is above and beyond the PC--for sure.
I know my 360 played Bioshock smooth as butter. I played the demo on my PC which is a Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.4GHZ and a 7800GTX, and the framerate was pretty low and would vary consistently. - esbern1, on 10/10/2007, -3/+9according to VGchartz Metroid sold 314k in the first week, Bioshock 400k. Explain this to me again? I mean...in the second week sure...but this is kinda fact manipulation
- Morphine7399, on 10/10/2007, -13/+19If you're using games sold to reflect which console is most popular, then the answer is the x360. (skip to 5:25)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uprmXw9PTLk - Zanarkand, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7The title is kind of misleading. No doubt that both games are amazing but I want to see Bioshock first week numbers vs. Metroid Prime 3 first week numbers. This is kind of like saying "Rush Hour 3 outsells Transfersformers". Well not really, cant compare 1st week sales numbers another game's 2nd week sales numbers. Alot of people that bought Bioshock the 2nd week were people that couldn't find it the first week or the "hear-say" latecomers. Everyone that was hyped for the game got it first week. Same thing happened with MP3.
- patmakh, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7you've obviously haven't played Metroid Prime 3 yet. If you had, you wouldn't have said what you just did. I doubt anyone below the age of 15 or 16 can get through Prime 3 or even have the patience for it, and I doubt grandpa or grandma will play it, cause they'd probably get a heart attack from all the excitement.
- Leonffs, on 11/20/2009, -2/+7It's not out in Japan yet jackass.
- WaltJay, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6So how many has copies BioShock sold?
- mlvassallo, on 10/10/2007, -9/+13Um... Super Paper Mario!
- RawOysters, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5I agree. This guy hasn't gotten far enough into Bioshock apparently. In my opinion the demo did not do justice to the game. Once I got past the first level things really opened up. The environments and storyline are very emmersive. And I really like the way the game adapts to your decision making. There are 3 different endings based on your decisions and they range from very dark to happy.
- kaelyiesta, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Since it influences decisions to produce games for platforms in question, you should care. Unless you are fine with any platform that is.
- thefalloftrey, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5technically you can't really call it a "shooting game" and especially not the epitome of them. Nintendo calls it a first person adventure and, having played through it, that's exactly what it is. You spend a lot more time exploring and solving puzzles, finding upgrades, etc than you do actually fighting.
That's not to say the parts where you are fighting suck, the boss battles are pretty intense (I've only played through on easy, and the boss battles were just that, can't wait to see them in the harder modes though), and fighting regular enemies is satisfying as well. It's just not the same as halo or any other shooting intensive game. - ncnavguy, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6Where are they sourcing the sells numbers from? Not that I don't believe it, but usually when a site makes this type of claim it usually has a sentance in it like " According to NPD polls" or "According to gamermetrics..."
- walkingdogs, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5If 3rd parties took the time and effort Nintendo took when developing a game it wouldn't be an issue. But time and time again Nintendo trumps 3rd party developers in the quality of games coming with their name on it so the consumer will always be wary of a non Nintendo title on one of their consoles.
- gwolf, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5I don't think the Wii is having trouble finding people willing to develop for it.
- wageslaven, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4This story is inaccurate. A story has already bene on the front page to debunk it. The story sources amazon for the sales numbers...which doesnt support the wild claims this story is making.
Buried as Inaccurate.
http://digg.com/nintendo_wii/Rumor_control_Metroid_sold_over_400_000_units_in_first_week - modifiedbears, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Miss Teen South Carolina is that you?
- FoxOrian, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4The title almost implies that Bioshock is a bad game or something?
Both Metroid and Bioshock are very deserving games and need to be played by everyone. What do sales statistics matter? - dagamer34, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4The last time 3rd parties treated a Nintendo console with respect was back when they were market leader with the SNES. It's not that Nintendo is amazingly good, but Sega, Microsoft, and Sony cannot survive without 3rd party support whereas Nintendo can. Good reason why the Dreamcast died an early death without EA.
- HeatVision, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Agree with lordtyros, Xbox didn't even have Xbox Live until a year after the launch and you still couldn't play Halo online through Live.
- MioTheGreat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3They've been working on Dragon Age for what seems like forever now. I want news on that project damnit!
- YojimboJango, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Someones a grumpy PS3 fan boy.
- dasdef, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5ive been wanting to buy metroid prime 3, but i havent finished Bioshock yet. its hard to pay full prices for games with single player only. But i might do it anyway since metroid has been getting rave reviews, and my Wii has been getting dusty.
- SGagnon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3According to vgchartz, Metroid sold 314,157 copies in its first week (computerandvideogames doesn't state where they got their number) while Bioshock sold 408,119 copies in its first week.
- Coy0te, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5Actually it's far more harder then Bioshock. If you had actually bothered to read any reviews you would have found have found that a lot of reviewers are concerned that MP3 might feel out of place when compared to the casual games on the Wii and that one of the only real faults with Bioshock is that it's a bit too easy. Bioshock may be less accessible title due to its rating but it's difficulty isn't comparable to MP3 when you consider that fact that theres no real punishment for dying and that it has a big freaking GPS like arrow that tells you when to turn.
- BlackKnight6, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Same devs, different IP.
- SeBBBe, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Actually, Bioshock sold VERY little PC copies compared to the 360 version..
- MalDON, on 10/10/2007, -4/+6Halo 3 is not coming to pc the same time at the 360. If I have to wait a year to play it on the pc .. ***** that. I'm getting it for the 360. GOW is still not out for the pc either.
- YojimboJango, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3The article reports that it's the top selling game in all categories. I'd say PC is a category, however it could be that Bioshock sold 300,000 xbox360 and 300,000 PC copies. One hopes that they wouldn't skew statistics like that, but you never know as they didn't post where they got their data from.
- YoctoYotta, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I'm more than half way down the comments section and this is the first logical comment I've seen.
