- Paroparo, on 10/11/2007, -17/+111It's soccer in the United States and football everywhere else. Get it right.
- mrfreeziexp, on 10/11/2007, -1/+78Hopefully this will show Nintendo how important online play is to the people.
- iluvatar, on 10/11/2007, -8/+55Actually soccer is an old UK slang for "Association Football" which was invented in the 1800s to separate it from Rugby football. So when you call it soccer, people are going to know what you're talking about whereas with football you'd need to specify.
Oh yeah... uh... get it right? - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -6/+48***** it's out?!?
- BuckleButt, on 10/11/2007, -3/+39"Keep in mind, however, that while new, Mario Strikers Charged Football is only online in one continent - Europe - as it won’t hit Australia for nearly another two weeks, and North America for over two months."
- timpkmn89, on 10/11/2007, -3/+32Since soccer is SO much more popular in Europe, it makes sense that they'd work on getting out there as soon as possible, even if it means delaying the US release.
- chris9902, on 10/11/2007, -8/+37http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FIFA
It's not "soccer". Even the international governing body has the word "football" in it's name. - Elric1977, on 10/11/2007, -4/+25GOOD THING IT'S CALLED STRIKERS THEN SO MEANINGLESS ARGUMENTS DON'T HAPPEN ON THE INTERWEB BETWEEN IGNORANT AMERICANS AND POMPOUS BRITS!
Whew!
/DUCKS FOR COVER!!!! - tacojohn, on 10/11/2007, -6/+24I don't understand why this game is taking so long to come out in the US.
- Cyber_Akuma, on 10/11/2007, -2/+18Because nobody wants to admit "I play hand ball"
- chris4404, on 10/11/2007, -4/+18My first reaction as well.
- ngandy, on 10/11/2007, -9/+21i call it soccer when talking to my US friends...I call it football when talking to my non US friends.
but then I don't have any non US friends....so yeah...Soccer. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -7/+16Well, the ball is a foot long for starters.
- Danners, on 10/11/2007, -10/+18So when you say football, it could be "soccer" or "American football"? Why is this the case when clearly participants of American football spend 99% of the time with the ball in their hands?
Did whoever invent the game think it would be funny to give his game the same name as a game that already exists?
@iluvatar btw I'm not getting at what your saying or disagreeing with you, just building on what you've said :) - ToastPop, on 04/17/2009, -4/+11Modchip is a bad idea... people who have been running it in north america are forced into a firmware upgrade which is intended for PAL systems, and it disables access to their system settings. Just play the waiting game this once, Europe has to do it all the time!
- lgeller, on 10/11/2007, -3/+10The term "Football" means that you play the sport on foot. It was used to describe sports that were not on horseback. It has nothing to do with use of your feet to kick the ball....
- museo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8Hang on, europe gets a Ninty game before everyone else? *Goes to check to see if the sky is falling*
- TheTjalian, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5@cyber akuma
You'll be pleased to know that the Wii friend codes are tied to your Mii, not to each game. Basically, all of your various stats and what not you'll be able to transfer to your friends house just by putting your Mii in your Wii Remote. Not too bad really, is it? - Icebird, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4except it says strikers then football. heh.
- papermodelplane, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6Friend codes do suck.
But at least it's only 1 friend code for all of your games, eh? http://gonintendo.com/?p=18630 - Goldbricker, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4I am looking forward to this coming out in N.A. on the Wii. I didn't own a Gamecube, but was addicted to Mario Super Strikers like it was crack. I'd play it at demo stations at stores. For the first time ever when we'd go shopping my wife would tell me to hurry up so we could leave.
- itsameericle, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4somehow i think (hope) SSBBrawl is going to be the good online title (with those brands technically in its title)
then again,
isn't it funny how the (arguably) best title will rely on combining all three of those names? - libertao, on 10/11/2007, -11/+14@Parokki
"It's soccer in the United States and football everywhere else. Get it right."
Actually no, virtually all of the English-speaking countries like Canada, Australia, New Zealand and U.S. use "soccer" except for Britain. Get it right. - thisguy47, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5Myko:
Though the languages are the same, there are differences between the American and European standards for televisions. Europe uses PAL while Americans have the NTSC standard. They have to work with the game to get it to run at different refresh rates, resolutions, etc. - g4blows, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I have a mod chip and a NTSC USA system I was playing the game yesterday, there was a small update but I am still able to access all of my system settings. I would appreciate a source if other people are experiencing the problem.
- Ignignokt01, on 10/11/2007, -8/+11***** friend codes.
- o0joshua0o, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2All these "my term for X is superior to yours" arguments are so ridiculous. We might as well argue about the correct spelling of yog(h)urt.
- gamergod42, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2The game friend codes are 12 digits unlike the wii numbers which are 16 digits. You can grab friend codes on sites like http://MapWii.com or from forums all over the web (just google Wii Friend Code). Pokemon Battle Revolution will have friend codes too, and it will be the first online wii game for sale in the U.S. It will be available in less than a month - June 25!
- cyberwarriorx, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2From what I understand you have to make sure you've updated to the latest firmware(2.2) or when you insert the game it'll try to update your firmware and effectively brick your Wii.
- Cyber_Akuma, on 10/11/2007, -4/+6"Hopefully this will show Nintendo how important online play is to the people."
They are still using a slighly less annoying version of Friend Codes, they havent fully learned yet.
Not until online Wii games have a damn FC-free lobby system and allow you to chat with people that are not on your friends list. - SkippyDoorknob, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Launching it in Europe is probably a good test-run of the Nintendo servers. Sort of like an expanded live beta. It gives them a better chance to see how the servers will handle the load so they can plan ahead. It's better than releasing it worldwide all at once and the online servers crumble into smoking piles of melted circuits because there was an unplanned glitch.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1@tedhead2k
Actually, that isn't true. It works fine after the update. Not that I would know firsthand or anything... ;) - TheTjalian, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1@decay
No. Sorry. - ant4177, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Great game btw, I don't think anyone mentioned that.
- InvertedDonkey, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2"to everyone complaining about the usage of 'soccer'....
Last time I checked, this was an American site, owned and operated by Americans, so yes its Football dumbasses."
this seems to contradict itself... as americans use the word soccer - heysuburbia, on 10/11/2007, -0/+19 minutes of straight up gameplay, from starting, loading, to playing a match and wifi:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBsR9wUPJJo - dBLiSS, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2@cyberwarriorx
Not true. I have an NTSC modded Wii and ran the game just fine after running the update. Even played online. It does not brick the wii (atleast using the CycloWiz mod chip). The release was an NTSC release as well (Mario_Strikers_Charged_NTSC_Wii-VORTEX). My console was not bricked after doing an update. - WarcraftJunkie, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Yay word press error! My favorite kind of article!
Anyone have a mirror perchance? - thcobbs, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3Heh.... wait till the game where at the end you have mario throwing away a lambskin... then you know that you've broken out of the "kid-friendly" Nintendo.
- modifiedbears, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Yea this is amazing because there's such a surplus of on-line games for their FREE network.
- b3mus3d, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Funny you should bring that up actually; the original game was called Mario Smash Football in Europe and Super Mario Strikers in America.
- Elric1977, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1LOL, never noticed that, but really, I think they'd keep football since it's worldwide, where Soccer is simply American, and I mean simply.
- Yegger, on 10/11/2007, -5/+5Pfft. I want Mario throwing a pigskin.
Or Hockey. - Snowy, on 10/11/2007, -4/+4@rlg420
The #1 and #2 games are Nintendo DS games, so I don't think they will convince Wii developers of anything. - decay, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Useless arguements aside, can you use GC controllers and wii controllers at the same time?
- razicop, on 04/17/2008, -0/+0Very nice and interesting game, i liked this game very much, thanks for sharing these games with us!
http://www.joinarcade.com/category/101/Action.html - JustAn0th3rFace, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2Wow, i cant believe everyone who dugg me down missed my sarcasm
- BenKenobi88, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1plus it's a much bigger job to get online play ready in the US....maybe that's why we don't have Pokemon for Wii yet either.
- libertao, on 10/11/2007, -4/+3Digg me down!
- unched, on 10/11/2007, -4/+2This just in: NEW THINGS ARE POPULAR!!!
