yep, Mario Kart Wii is the one of the only good games on the Wii. Nothing much else at about the same quality on the system at all. I mean, it only has Wii Sports and Mario right? - yohnstoppable, on 04/16/2008, -6/+46I've never understood why people bitch so much about mario kart games. it is a fun, light-hearted racer with a lot of hectic ***** in. That is what mario kart does. That is why mario kart is fun.
And everyone always says the same *****, too. *insert game here* is the best of the series! Why can't they get back to that!" Is it any coincidence that 99% of the time the person is listing the very first mario kart he/she played? Nope. You list that game, because it helped defined what you like. You don't like changes to that formula, because you aren't as good at it anymore. And god forbid you not be the biggest badass on the block at mario kart anymore, like in the good old days where you'd wtfpwn your littler brother. Your life is over! But if it doesn't change, then it is just recycling the same *****, which you'll cry about, because you'll get bored playing the same exact game as you're "all time favorite". You don't realize this, because you're stupid - porkdanish, on 04/16/2008, -4/+42How can a fun game be bad for gaming?
It's console snobbery like yours that will ultimately be bad for gaming -- fun, accessible gaming will open up the market for new ideas, make game production more lucrative and create new opportunities for designers and players alike.
If you insist on forcing video games into your little box of what games should and shouldn't be -- it'll just become stagnant and die. - Topher06, on 04/16/2008, -48/+76That's what happens when you have 23 million Wii owners and very few good games for it, they all jump on the next Nintendo game release like flies on sh...
- Bukowsky, on 04/16/2008, -2/+27Somehow, I am still not tired of Wii Bowling.
- kinseyincanada, on 04/16/2008, -3/+23wow i just surprised the that North American release date is after everyones else's
- djbeeker, on 04/16/2008, -0/+20You're also allowed to misspell "allowed" on Digg, but that doesn't make it a good idea.
- Sommerlost, on 04/16/2008, -5/+24Mario Kart and Wii Bowling is about the only way these days I can get my wife to play any games. I'll get my kicks where I can.
- KingGoonie, on 04/16/2008, -3/+18So... B1663r... you are saying that buying a game that is getting great reviews... is bad? Its not like this is carnival games selling a million... this is Mario Kart, one of the greatest series of all time... now incorporating online play, etc.. Its getting great reviews and so SHOULD sell great. How the hell is it a minigame?
- KingGorilla, on 04/16/2008, -0/+15That's a lot of banana peels
- KingGorilla, on 04/16/2008, -3/+18...shampoo?
- KingGoonie, on 04/16/2008, -8/+23You truly are stupid. #1 you call Mario Kart a minigame calling it a cheap cash in. Then you claim to konw exactly how much money nintendo put into making the game... then you mention Halo 3, MGSIV, and GTAIV... games that are basically hype machines and people also buy even if they sucked (which Halo 3 actually pretty much does).
I mean if your going to make an idiotic and illogical arguement with all these false statments, the least you could do is make it a good one. - Garlik, on 04/16/2008, -1/+14What I find ironic about your post is that first you complain about Nintendo "recycling" old games and how it's bad for the gaming industry, but then state that real games are: Halo 3 (a sequel) MGS IV (a sequel) and GTA IV (also a sequel).
- theaceoffire, on 04/16/2008, -2/+14I like what they did with Mario Kart. Especially the racing Mii's.
- anarchyinthekr, on 04/16/2008, -1/+13You're also allowed to reply to the wrong comment on Digg, but that doesn't make it a good idea.
- theaceoffire, on 04/16/2008, -4/+15I don't seem to see him talking about the PS3, but if you want to go there, sure.
The Wii has quite a few fun, awesome games (Metroid, Zelda, Brawl, etc). It also suffers from lazy/inconvenienced 3rd party developers who shovel older games with minor modifications.
O.o now, as for which good games the PS3 has... I would have to suggest you try UT3 (It is really fun), as well as Uncharted and Ratchet and Clank. I had a lot of fun with Resistance, and you could try some downloadables like Flow, Echochrome, and the PS1 games.
I like the Wii, it has some great stuff. I will probably pick one up one day. Doesn't mean that there are a limited number of high quality games for it, just like there are a limited number of high quality games for the 360 and PS3. - inactive, on 04/16/2008, -6/+17Mario Kart 64 remains one of my favorite games of all time, but Double Dash left a sour taste in my mouth. Maybe I can mooch off my friend's Nintendo Wii. Until then, I'll just stick with MK64.
- peestandingup, on 04/16/2008, -1/+10Since when the ***** is Mario Kart a "mini game"?? Learn your gaming terminology, numb nuts. This is a platformer & a damn good one at that.
- WiseWeasel, on 04/16/2008, -0/+8They fixed Battle mode in the Wii version, supposedly. Those crappy Battle courses are what ruined Double-Dash for me... In addition, they got rid of snaking and brought back hopping! Some of the MK64 courses are even present in the Wii version (no Block Fort though). I'll reserve judgment until I've put in some serious playing time, but I have hope that I'll finally be able to put MK64 to rest for good...
- Sairgem, on 04/16/2008, -0/+8Aw, get a little more creative with your spam posts if you want people to go to your ***** site.
- peestandingup, on 04/16/2008, -4/+12Topher06 just got F'ed in the A.
- theaceoffire, on 04/16/2008, -1/+9Come on, you really can't get your wife to play ANY games?
Try chocolate and a massage, that works most of the time. - MxM111, on 04/16/2008, -1/+9"If nintendo keeps raking in the dough on these minigames"
Minigame? If Mario Kart is a minigame, then I am the queen of England (and I am male) - ExitMoose, on 04/16/2008, -1/+8http://www.dictionary.com in case you can't spell.
- ibeetle, on 04/16/2008, -8/+1510 games in 18 months? Thats less than 1 game a month average.
You stopped at 84%. and with only 10 games. Take a look at the XBox 360. There are 10 games with a score of higher than 84% released in just the last 8 months... not 18. Even the PS3 has more games in the 90% and higher average than the Wii. Although fewer high ranking games (over 80%) over all. - Soave, on 04/16/2008, -0/+7This has to be the most under-hyped Nintendo game ever. I've heard almost nothing about it. Don't get me wrong, I love Mario Kart games, but I've heard very little about it.
- KingGoonie, on 04/16/2008, -5/+11Um... the online for this game is supposed to be outstanding... read the reviews and previews... supposedly its not having the same problems as Brawl with lag. (Though after the first day I never had lag problems with brawl either).
- carbon12, on 04/16/2008, -3/+8"Absolutely flawless online. Blew them away."
"the online multiplayer is phenomenal."
"Wii's premier online game. "

So there's one good 3rd party game that would appeal to me - if I hadn't retired from playing childish games. As a wii owner, I realize I've fallen for the exact same nintendo ***** I swore I wouldn't after the 64 and GC. Basically, I've let a few AAA first-party titles blind me to the complete lack of 3rd party support. - Gneekman, on 04/16/2008, -0/+5But honestly, what is the difference between a game company and a sports team, anyway?
They're both businesses whose product is entertainment... - WiseWeasel, on 04/16/2008, -1/+5Yeah, "surprised" is ONE way I'd put it... /me shakes his fist
- Garlik, on 04/16/2008, -0/+4I actually agree with you; the Wii has so much potential for great gaming, but most of the ads that I see on TV are for pathetic third party, animal raising games. Same for the DS. It's not wonder that Sony and Microsoft fanboys think that the Wii is for babies even though it has some really good first party games.
- falstaff, on 04/16/2008, -0/+4FSM DAMN Nintendo for giving gamers what they want! That truly is the death knell! Filling demand....the NERVE!
- Coffeedemon, on 04/16/2008, -1/+5"It's a lot easier for a developer to make an Xbox 360 game because they just make newer versions of the same stuff they've been doing for years."
What ? Hey Mr Pot ... I have a Kettle you should meet. - inactive, on 04/16/2008, -0/+3GH3 for Wii was a pretty horrid effort. We still don't have DLC.
- Volath, on 04/16/2008, -0/+3I think Mario Kart is is fun and all but all those sales figures show me is that Wii owners are just buying the next triple A title for their system. If it didn't sell as well as it is I would be a little confused.
- wedges, on 04/16/2008, -0/+3it only sold 300k with that many Wii owners out there? that's kind of sad. too close to Brawl, i say!
- keozen, on 04/16/2008, -0/+3I bought Mario kart Wii on launch day, it's fun. I've played the heck outa it already and it's still fun.
The day that a FUN game is bad for the games industry is the day I stop buying games. - ibeetle, on 04/16/2008, -0/+3So... basically what Kotaku is saying is... this is not confirmed yet and our source is a Japanese blog.. so we are just going to pull some numbers out our ass.
- Bladwor, on 04/16/2008, -1/+4I like turtles.
- skywake, on 04/16/2008, -3/+6because Okami, RE4, Zack & Wiki, GH3 and PES08 are all such horrible 3rd party efforts.....
- Danby123, on 04/16/2008, -2/+5nothing says it like xkcd
http://xkcd.com/290/ - TDot1980, on 04/16/2008, -1/+4A fun one, where you don't have to be a physics major and/or professional race car driver to make it around the track.
- nickerbocker, on 04/16/2008, -1/+4Wait...It's out now!? What am I doing here browsing Digg?!
- ChevyIIMan, on 04/16/2008, -0/+3I pre-ordered mine, its not out in the states till 4/27
- knetworx, on 04/16/2008, -0/+3Most of the great games on the Wii have been created by first party developers, because they understand the hardware a lot better. The 360 is using improved versions of old hardware, so even third party developers are experts at developing for it by now. When the Wii hardware is as old as the 360 or PS3 hardware (basically same as the old consoles, just with more power), third party developers will pump out some really awesome games. The Wii is more innovative than anything Microsoft or Sony has put out in a LONG time. It's just going to take some time for third party devs to catch up.
- bizmowacka, on 04/16/2008, -0/+3no need to click the link, the description says it all.
- Kumaku, on 04/16/2008, -1/+3I ***** love block fort! It's even on the DS version. WTF nintedo!
- nicko68, on 04/16/2008, -0/+2But they're not filling HIS demand! He wants FPS on 360/PS3, dammit!
- Claude1971, on 04/16/2008, -0/+2you could be a queen of England tho...see Elton John
