- yukonblack, on 01/09/2009, -0/+61I guess this brings us full circle with the phrase, 'surf the net'. ?
- DickyT83, on 01/09/2009, -4/+61Santa can do anything
- thh204, on 01/09/2009, -1/+51Wasn't this first done by people other than Google?
EDIT: yeah, 6 months ago, by some wacky Germans.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lKUDU9lE--E - nossifer, on 01/09/2009, -0/+47I am selling Silver Surfer costumes if anyone is interested.
- GamingBob, on 01/09/2009, -17/+58Who has bigger boobs? The guy or the girl?
- Vodd9, on 01/09/2009, -0/+39I know this will probably never happen for me but DAMN, working at Google seems so awesome.
- WafflePirate, on 01/09/2009, -2/+31The guy that hacked the Wii to have virtual reality abilities should take this hack and then use it to make a 3D virtual Google Maps.
- Table16, on 01/09/2009, -0/+22They hired him because of his use of Google Earth. It cut his run time in half.
- Gr00ver, on 01/09/2009, -1/+23I thought that was Jerry Garcia.
- apupimpin, on 01/09/2009, -2/+19Great you copied the first comment of the link's blog....so creative.
- herrdoktorc, on 01/09/2009, -0/+16They mapped left to go left and right to go right? Whoa.
- brainintraining, on 01/09/2009, -2/+17LOUD NOISES!
- KingGorilla, on 01/09/2009, -0/+11You mean silver paint?
- KSUdesigner, on 01/09/2009, -3/+14You could make a decent comment too. Lead by example.
- Incidents, on 01/09/2009, -4/+15If only he could hack the balance board so it could somehow be used for exercise related activities..
- McNandatron, on 01/09/2009, -3/+12Wow. I didn't know interpretting something was classed as hacking these days.
I hacked the English language and made this comment, apparently. - MrMysterious, on 01/09/2009, -1/+10Wow, now I know why all respectable news organizations use a clip on or a dedicated microphone.
- anyone4apint, on 01/09/2009, -1/+9The guy has a beard. Clearly he knows his stuff!!!
- danielfe, on 01/09/2009, -2/+10Done :)
We showed this at the PDC conference in October using a Wii Balance Board, a Wiimote, Microsoft Virtual Earth, and VR goggles. Here's the full details, including source code on Coding4Fun.

- oscareg, on 01/09/2009, -0/+6I know you went back to watch it again
- BoomWav, on 01/09/2009, -3/+8It's not an hack.
Just grab yourself a Bluetooth USB Adapter and it'll be an input just like any game controller. Was the X-Box controller hacked to work on PC?
No.. only drivers were developed.
Oh.. and it's the same for the Wiimote.
If they modified the internal structure or any firmware in it, it would be an hack. - uzusan, on 01/09/2009, -0/+5http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/hack
hack (plural hacks)
1. (computing, slang) An illegal attempt to gain access to a computer network.
2. (computing) An interesting technical achievement, particularly in computer programming.
3. (computing) A small code change meant to patch a problem as quickly as possible.
4. (computing) An expedient, temporary solution, meant to be replaced with a more elegant solution at a later date.
5. (slang, military) Time check.
With emphasis on numbers 2 and 4. - boomcubist, on 01/10/2009, -0/+5Dugg for wacky Germans.
- inactive, on 01/09/2009, -1/+6She makes my stomach feel funny.
- pameste, on 01/09/2009, -1/+5Here it is in 3D with virtual reality glasses:
http://channel9.msdn.com/posts/Dan/Coding4Fun-with ... - cardyology, on 01/09/2009, -2/+6But EddyRX10, the guy has boobs! The users here dont really see many boobs (apart from their moms) so they're excited.
- Misterberu, on 01/09/2009, -0/+4Ja, das ist sehr gut!
- enivid, on 01/09/2009, -0/+4Virtual segway?
Hurray! On top of gaining weight I won't have to breath any of that poisonous fresh air. - jerrod73, on 01/09/2009, -0/+4Just moving around the map itself with the board would have been cool, but they added the car to the map that interacts with the terrain.
- cmsjustin, on 01/09/2009, -4/+8Sadly, the guy. Not to say that she isn't attractive though.
- inactive, on 01/09/2009, -0/+4Google can steal with the best of them. Microsoft had the same thing for virtual earth at PDC last year.
- locondcoco, on 01/09/2009, -2/+6i'm not the one making a stink about it.
- nossifer, on 01/09/2009, -0/+4breathe
- watcht, on 01/09/2009, -0/+3Wow that's pretty killer wonder if they incorporated the 3d buildings into it yet? Appreciated for opening up the drivers for others to use too.
- merreborn, on 01/10/2009, -0/+3For every google engineer that gets to work on awesome *****, there are a dozen google employees who have boring jobs in endless cubicle farms.
Entry level work there isn't much better than entry level anywhere else. - YumYumTruck, on 01/09/2009, -1/+4yep, google only hires the best.
- fubarific, on 01/09/2009, -0/+3it would be amazing if the board was adapted for snowboarding/skateboarding games like this.
- damnmonkey, on 01/09/2009, -1/+4You're such a dark and troubled soul. You must be trouble with a capital T!
- justjoehere, on 01/09/2009, -0/+3I give it 37 more days, then you will welcome your Google overlords
- WatchDogX, on 01/10/2009, -0/+3I find it funny that when people guess someones password, like the recent twitter incident, they call it hacking. So you use a weak password brute forcer, big deal.
- Osmose1000, on 01/09/2009, -0/+3I used Bluetooth and GlovePIE a while back to be able to use my Classic Controller on my computer for SNES roms. Twas a bit shaky sometimes, though. I agree with the developer; I'd love to see more games and applications that natively support a Wiimote instead of just using it as another game controller.
- heysuburbia, on 01/09/2009, -0/+3"Balance Beam"... Santa is getting tired
- akiller, on 01/09/2009, -0/+3If you want the source code it's apparently going to be on: http://code.google.com/mac/ and http://code.google.com/p/earthsurfer/source/browse ...
Source: http://google-latlong.blogspot.com/2009/01/flying- ... - bintangfolife, on 01/10/2009, -0/+2Why?
- harusp3x, on 01/10/2009, -0/+2Nope. Still not "literally" surfing. We're getting there, though.
- lulzitsadigg, on 01/10/2009, -0/+2Some other guy did it with Google Street View: http://gameviper.com/wii/jog-using-your-wii-fit-an ...
- protogenxl, on 01/09/2009, -0/+2Surf Wyoming
- fatejudger, on 01/09/2009, -0/+2I saw it at Macword a couple of days ago. It's a funny idea, but the graphics were less than impressive to say the least. The chick who worked for Apple seemed to be having a good time on it though...
