- Aereo, on 12/14/2007, -3/+43Boy, that would suck to get a voucher on Christmas, instead of a real Wii.
- jmkiii, on 12/14/2007, -0/+27Your desk has windows?
- jeffko387, on 12/14/2007, -3/+25Judging by their record, I wouldn't hold my breath.
- YojimboJango, on 12/14/2007, -4/+25You're an idiot.
Seriously, how many articles have been up on digg in the last month explaining how business works, and why they can't just magically whip up production?
Do I have to explain it again? Really?
It's hard to believe that there's someone as naturally stupid as you are.
It's actually impossible to believe that.
You must be trying to be stupid.
Do you bash your head against a rock until you bleed from your ears for insight?
Is that how you come up with inspired posts like this?
I can't fathom any other way.
Stupid.
Just. So stupid. - Braingoo, on 12/14/2007, -0/+17Thing is this is not a Gamestop Deal but actually and official Nintendo Promotion by way of Gamestop so I would say its Legit and go Big N
http://kotaku.com/gaming/liveblogging/liveblogging ... - monarch00, on 12/14/2007, -4/+19So you're telling me that Gamestop is going to willingly turn away customers from their stores and hold back their stock because someone might come and turn in a raincheck?
I call B.S. - DarkNemesis618, on 12/14/2007, -2/+17Hmmmmm...sounds reasonable...yet fishy
Wasn't GameStop the one who oversold the PS3 reserves? Imagine what they might do to the more popular wii - Shawn4168, on 12/14/2007, -3/+14Considering he never even said what currency it was in, your comment fails.
- TheRealDj, on 12/14/2007, -10/+21I'd gladly pay you today for an overhyped system on tuesday
- cgruber, on 12/14/2007, -1/+12There's also no shortage of smartasses on digg
- cesclaveria, on 12/14/2007, -2/+13well, I meant my office, the window is next to my desk... you can get weird results thinking in one language and then writing in another language.
- inactive, on 12/14/2007, -0/+10The only way they can keep up with demand is to build another factory. Eventually the shortages would be over and they would have a facility they don't need. And lose a ***** load of money from that.
- bimtott, on 12/14/2007, -1/+10reminds me of the Star Wars toy "empty box" promotion.
- bigteebo, on 12/14/2007, -0/+9Coming soon to eBay: GameStop Wii Rain Checks.
Coming also: Open slots for Gamestop Wii Rain Checks.
Both will sell under the impression you're actually getting a Wii.
Great, now there's a self-made market on just GETTING a Wii. - beantime, on 12/14/2007, -0/+7Once I reserved a game. They called to tell me the game was in the store. I walked to said store.
"We don't got it."
I emailed the regional manager up through the CEO of the company, and never once received any kind of apology.
I've refused to go into a Gamestop since. - jmkiii, on 12/14/2007, -1/+8I saw one on E-bay for 13.5 Million.
/no sarcasm - Wingman007, on 12/14/2007, -1/+8They sold what Sony had guaranteed them. Then Sony told them that they weren't shipping as many as they had previously stated.
- Abominous, on 12/14/2007, -0/+6Dang, glad I managed to get a Wii a year ago.
- MarkOfTheDead, on 12/14/2007, -0/+6Well for the premium new, you can get 3 of the olds which have quite an assortment of games including all 4 guitar hero's, both manhunts and all four GTA's....
- cesclaveria, on 12/14/2007, -5/+11To think that from my desk's windows I can see a nice pile of wiis (about 15) on the electronics shop across the street, I live in a underdeveloped country and even when the wiis sell really fast there is no sign of shortages.
- JKVM, on 12/14/2007, -0/+5The price might explain why there's a stack of them.
- EtherGnat, on 12/15/2007, -0/+5As a kid I would have rather waited 45 days for my game console and had $150 worth of other toys under the tree than have my parents pay that same $150 to a scalper to have one in time for Christmas. Maybe that's just me, though.
- Step1Mark, on 12/14/2007, -5/+10you're over hyped!
- ShugNinx21, on 12/14/2007, -1/+6Excellent deduction. Considering it requires a high majority or all retail managers from many different retail outfits across the entire country to create a shortage of this magnitude. Just think about it for a minute...
Come on, did you seriously believe that? How difficult is it to believe that demand is higher than supply right now? - YojimboJango, on 12/14/2007, -0/+5If you have the spare money you could probably go out and buy them all and put them on ebay. Underdeveloped country and all.
- jockser, on 12/14/2007, -1/+5in Israel they are common, you can go into any store and pick one, problem is that nobody wants them here for some reason.
PS3 and XBOX are much more successful. - seand, on 12/14/2007, -0/+4wow.
do you care to explain how things work then?
I know I am interested in seeing this.
REFRIGERATOR! - sherbetboy, on 12/14/2007, -0/+3Ive been working at Gamestop for over a year and completely agree. I have almost been fired numerous times for going above and beyond for customers, even if it means telling them about better deals elsewhere. I take my time to help out everyone with courtesy and respect. I am not biased with games or consoles, and will try to find out what someone will like based on their tastes, not mine. My fellow employees who are the kind of people who lack social decency and talk down to and generally hassle customers for pre orders and to trade in games even if they will only get a dollar. The only reason why I haven't been fired yet is because customers keep coming back to see me and recommending their friends shop there because I am respectful to everyone. I really wish my bosses and fellow workers would treat customers with even an ounce of decency, then maybe gamestop wouldn't have the reputation it does...
- halofr34k, on 12/14/2007, -1/+4The Best Buy near where I live always has at least 3 or 4 on the shelf
- GreenGrassyNoel, on 12/14/2007, -0/+3This angers me. if you were to go buy them, and sell them on ebay, it will help the ebay prices come down and you will make a profit. I already have one, but would be selling them if it was easier to get them.
- phoenix11, on 12/14/2007, -0/+3Lemme get this straight...
So instead of people lining up for hours to get to a limited supply of actual consoles, people will be lining up for hours for a limited supply of pieces of paper promising a console at some later date?
Pure evil marketing genius.
Doesn't this mean that Nintendo gets to rack up 2007 holiday season sales for consoles it has yet to manufacture? Seems a bit shady to me. - GreenGrassyNoel, on 12/14/2007, -0/+3Thanks for clarifying
- Lisztman, on 12/14/2007, -0/+3Okay, where the hell do you live? I'm coming to your town. Every time I'm in GR I can't find *****. :(
- ShugNinx21, on 12/14/2007, -1/+4Yeah, they really screwed the pooch by selling consoles at such an insanely rapid pace that production can barely keep up with demand...
- Iccanui, on 12/14/2007, -2/+5dont buy anything from these people. You can get Wii's at walmart with no bundle but these guys force you to buy a bundle and sign a thing stating you will buy 5 games in the next year for it.
- Shawn4168, on 12/14/2007, -0/+3I think they can much better predict how many Wiis they'd be getting based on the last year, as opposed to trying to predict how many PS3s they'd have before the system even came out.
- Cerebral, on 12/14/2007, -1/+4I don't know why you are getting dugg down but you are right; maybe not to that much of an extreme but you are right about the inventory control. If Nintendo were to let out all the Wiis then there is a chance people will stop wanting them simply because they COULD get one.
- Shanobi, on 12/14/2007, -0/+3***** they don't NEED any more ***** buzz. Did you miss the article on how they've STOPPED advertising the Wii because they can't keep up with the demand? It's ***** stupid at this point to make this "they're doing it for the hype" arguement now, they're putting out 1.8 million ***** systems a month and can't keep up. ***** *****!
- hexydes, on 12/14/2007, -0/+2Seriously. Mid-Michigan is out. Every store.
- hatdrop, on 12/14/2007, -0/+2not only that there's always some tool employee that swears he has some "secret insider information." it's really annoying to hear them talking out of their ass and giving really stupid ass opinions. "oh no don't sell your game off ebay or amazon, it's better to sell your games to us for $5 buck store credit and we'll resell it at near new value" (yes i know about upselling) but theyr'e still a bunch of tools.
- Step1Mark, on 12/14/2007, -1/+3I agree with you but I'm sure Nintendo has a contract with them on how many they are allowed to preorder. when the systems were coming out no one really knew how many would be ready for launch.
- cesclaveria, on 12/14/2007, -0/+2Well I am in America (Central America) and the standard is also NTSC.
And I just build a nice gaming rig so I'm pretty much broke, and the wiis are selling just shy of what a PS3 costs in the US. - starf, on 12/14/2007, -0/+2Have you ever tried to buy a popular game the day it comes out from gamestop. They ask you if you have a preorder, and if you don't, then they don't have it. Then you go next door to a Target or a Best Buy and buy the game.
- ShugNinx21, on 12/14/2007, -0/+2I'm not discounting that some retail managers may be buying Wiis to sell them online. What I'm saying is that it is not some big conspiracy. These people wouldn't be selling them on ebay if the demand was not there for them. The resellers are acting as middle men and passing the console onto the real customer and pocketing some cash. Is it right? That is debatable, but they are not making the shortage worse. If they didn't buy them and resell them then regular customers would buy them and the shortage would be the same.
I don't know where the CompUSA and mall's decline works into this equation. Just because you can't find one doesn't mean there is some conspiracy going on, it just means you are unlucky. - mrelusive, on 12/14/2007, -0/+2I think if I had a child, he would be thrilled and ecstatic that I got him an I.O.U. for Christmas. [/sarcasm]
- s1mph0ny, on 12/14/2007, -0/+2Kiosks suck in general for this generation of systems. All the PS3's are broken due to their shiny plastic case that doesn't allow any ventilation. The xbox360's ironically still work, but only because they don't include a demo disc. The only place you can try out a wii is ebgames/gamestop (and you have to ask to check out a controller.)
- Shawn4168, on 12/14/2007, -0/+2They increased their production rate, but they know by exactly how much it was increased. They know how fast they can ship everything out to retailers because they've been doing it for a year. And no longer advertising has no effect on supply...only on demand.
- Shawn4168, on 12/14/2007, -1/+3Somehow I fail to see how making a game system so incredibly successful that you can't even keep them in stock a year after release is "dropping the ball".
- Kevin108, on 12/14/2007, -0/+2There's none to be had locally. If all stores did this then everything wouldn't wind up on eBay and you could just buy things at retail price again.
- ShugNinx21, on 12/14/2007, -0/+2Target seems to be a store that people forget to check. Last year on launch day, every store had hordes of people standing in line and all the Wiis were taken. I stopped at target at about 7 something in the morning, there were about 15 people in line. 10 mins later the staff came out and handed out vouchers for the Wiis and I got one and there were like 10 of them left over. I was one lucky guy. I felt bad for all the other people who sat outside in the cold all night and then I just drove up and got one.
