- bixby1, on 06/23/2009, -14/+56"What's also going to change is Mario's gender if he doesn't make this jump."
- Misinformant, on 06/23/2009, -10/+43Nintendo sure is green with all the recycling they do!
- lauckie, on 06/23/2009, -1/+31I've played through Super Mario Galaxy twice now (121 stars with mario, 121 stars with luigi) and i still keep finding new stuff i hadn't seen (or noticed) before. I can't wait for the second version to come out. They may "remake" these games over and over again... but that's what you call perfecting your craft. Shigeru Miyamoto is a master.
- Whackly, on 06/23/2009, -0/+27i think perhaps you are confusing graphics and resolution. the wii is currently limited to 620x480@60hz right? progressive scan... well that's dvd quality. i've certainly seen a lot of movies on dvd where somebody (sometimes even me) has marked the cgi as "insane" so apparently it is possible to display "insane visuals" at 480p. before you get all hypocritical by dissing "fanboys" who are merely fans of something other than what you are a "fanboy" for perhaps you should take a moment to consider that resolution /= graphics. Also, have you seen madworld?
- techguru2006, on 06/23/2009, -9/+36The graphics in this game are insane.
- evisr8r, on 06/23/2009, -0/+26Even if it was a level pack, would you have a problem paying full price for it? I got 100% of the stars in galaxy and I was still left wanting more... great game.
- Bloyru, on 06/23/2009, -11/+32U R MR GAY 2
- gamerbambi, on 06/23/2009, -3/+24We should have a Super Mario Bros 3 sequel for the Wii... the same way Megaman 9 was re-done!
- Shawn4168, on 06/23/2009, -6/+24I loved the first Galaxy, but I'm having a hard time getting excited about this. Seems more like a level pack than a true sequel. I know I'm going to end up buying it anyway, though...damn you, Nintendo.
- emjaymj, on 06/24/2009, -1/+15Oh, you watched the video too??
- Entroper, on 06/23/2009, -0/+14That's basically what a Mario game is, just a bunch of levels. A bunch of levels full of awesome.
- inactive, on 06/23/2009, -1/+14I immediately assume anyone on digg who doesn't list their age in their profile is around 14
- noisecrusader, on 06/23/2009, -2/+14riding yoshi and screwing? sounds like my weekend...
- theaverageidiot, on 06/23/2009, -8/+19Neither is the 360 or PS3.
<3 PC - phpirate, on 06/23/2009, -0/+11Nobody cares.
- phpirate, on 06/23/2009, -0/+10tedrolland2: double check who the fanboy here is.
- Schmapdi, on 06/23/2009, -0/+8Hmm, I need to replay through Galaxy again with Luigi before this launches.
- for20, on 06/23/2009, -2/+10that goes for all sequel makers....
- emjaymj, on 06/24/2009, -0/+7Wait... you're 28 years old and STILL concerned about appearing as an "adult"?
Yeesh... the alias alone makes me cringe. - YellowSnowDemon, on 06/24/2009, -1/+8Mario has been around since the 80's, and he has 7 main games.
I bet you're the type of person who gets excited for new Call of Duty and Madden games. - SirDinkus, on 06/24/2009, -0/+7You know, at first I gave nintendo alot of ***** for making what is basically an upgrade of the last Galaxy game. But with the trailer presented like it is with the commentary and all, I gotta forgive them. Nintendo knows how to make a quality game down to its core elements and seeing as the first Galaxy was a prime example of this, I'm gonna buy Galaxy 2 simply to support this kind of developer metality.
- emjaymj, on 06/24/2009, -1/+8If you're playing Mario for the storyline... you're definitely doing it wrong.
- Atomic1fire, on 06/24/2009, -0/+7Ive played mario on nes...
- themastersb, on 06/24/2009, -0/+7Cool story bro
- HiroOfShadows, on 06/23/2009, -1/+7Exactly my thoughts. The original Galaxy was great, but I'm really not excited about this one at all. It looks like an expansion pack or something.
Miyamoto himself has said that the game has "90% new levels". 90%? Shouldn't that be 100%, seeing as it's a different game? - emjaymj, on 06/24/2009, -0/+6If you're truly worried you're getting 10% less of a game, you shouldn't have to worry about waiting too long for a 10% discount. Because that's what you're concerned about, right?
Having played the first Mario Galaxy, I feel comfortable saying that most "100% new" games aren't even HALF as worthwhile. So yeah, it's definitely still something to look forward to. - SethG911, on 06/24/2009, -0/+6Octoberlull you are a boring person, with boring thoughts.
- Arkz, on 06/23/2009, -3/+9For a Wii game its graphics do look impressive!
- Kajaah117, on 06/23/2009, -0/+6You didn't play Galaxy did you? I'm not the biggest Wii fan ever, but Galaxy was easily one of the top 3 games of 2007.
- chaosblade77, on 06/23/2009, -2/+8Nintendo is not SquareEnix.
There aren't many other companies that could get away with releasing enhanced ports of their old games AND charging premium prices for them.
Nintendo may rely heavily on their franchises (and I'm glad that they do), but they definitely aren't the worst when it comes to recycling their ideas. - Langford, on 06/23/2009, -0/+6I thought what he was saying was that 10% was ideas they wanted to use in the first MG but didn't get to, and the other 90% were new things added on top of that.
- kdmkdmkdm, on 06/23/2009, -3/+8Pure fun
- Elranzer, on 06/24/2009, -0/+5I played Mario on Atari.
(Seriously, Donkey Kong and Mario Bros were ported from Arcade to Atari before there was the NES. They were ***** ports, though). - Reebee52, on 06/23/2009, -6/+11I liked Mario Galaxy. I didn't love it, it was very overrated. Mario 64 is a classic. Galaxy had a great and innovative 'gravity' engine that allowed for some neat puzzles, but the game on the whole was far too linear, with too many small planets that weren't very different save color. There wasn't any exploring to be done, I never had to really think to get Stars, which you had to do in 64, explore and think. I hope this one keeps some of the small planets, but really tries to get bigger, more expansive, explorable, open ended worlds.
It's a similar complaint I had for Wind Waker on GC. Yeah, the idea from sailing from island to island is cool. But when it's mostly water, and all the islands are just tiny rocks that aren't distinctive it gets boring, fast. - Elranzer, on 06/24/2009, -0/+5I'd prefer it in the Super Mario World or Super Mario All-Stars style (still 2D but much better 16-bit style graphics).
- polypropglop, on 06/24/2009, -2/+7Someone needs to hack it so we have Jesus riding Yoshi.
- Whackly, on 06/23/2009, -0/+5@tedrolland2 I'm saying the visuals in madworld are "insane" and it's not the only game. I think it's also important to remember that outside our little nerd worlds where we think all this ***** is important most people are still using standard def TVs that can't take advantage of anything more than an analog 480i signal and, as far as console games go, the argument over graphics is merely anecdotal until that changes. In addition, yes PC games offer superior graphics AND resolutions but there are tradeoffs. I could play upstairs in my office on my best rig and I could but a surround sound system for the office but then I'd be in my office participating in a solitary activity that bridges the social gap with electronic communications. Meanwhile, with my "graphics-lacking" consoles with their "slow and lame-compared-to-mouse-and-keyboard" controls I am in my living room with my wife and kid and I can bridge the social gap by turning my head and talking to somebody. If you are focused on things like framerates, resolutions, etc. (whether on a PC or a console) you have entered a world where your gaming setup is now in the service of your ego/penis and not in the service of fun.
- 3oltan, on 06/23/2009, -9/+14Mario is my first video game..
- Brooks007, on 06/23/2009, -2/+7I can’t wait!
The first one was fun but to short... maybe this one will be longer.
I've enjoyed every Mario game to date and I expect to enjoy this one also. Plus Mario is the only game my girlfriend and I play together. She pwns at Mario 3(that’s NES for the kids out there). - mrMunchies, on 06/23/2009, -3/+8The first part is the first game I ever bought on the wii, buying this one is a must!
- chaosblade77, on 06/23/2009, -0/+4"Graphics" is such a broad term, especially when you're talking about something like "insane graphics."
I personally think good art direction will make a game look infinitely better than more polygons, pixels, and higher resolution textures. In that sense, the Wii can have good looking games, and Mario Galaxy is definitely one of them.
Then again, I still like SNES and PS1 games and think some still look excellent, so my opinion probably doesn't mean much here. - axm9505, on 06/23/2009, -3/+7What i would give to ride yoshi.....
- kinseyincanada, on 06/24/2009, -1/+5all you PC douchebags say is that the PC has the best graphics, but who the ***** cares about graphics give me gameplay any day.
- dafragsta, on 06/23/2009, -0/+4I agree. It's hard to get as excited for sequels, but I blame Yahtzee for insistently bitching about sequels and that becoming popular. There are SOME games that should give it a rest (Sonic) but sequels are taking something that worked and trying to refine and evolve the gampelay to perfection.
- fishbeef33, on 06/23/2009, -0/+4Since when did people suddenly get so uptight about sequels? So unless EVERYTHING about the game is completely different, it's not worth our time? I'm all for reinventing the wheel from time to time, but if it ain't broke and you've got folks clamoring for more, well...
- Elranzer, on 06/24/2009, -0/+4I wish there were 203974521628756961098 Mario games, but there's only eight (not including the sports spin-offs, party games and RPGs).
How many Final Fantasys are there? - Elranzer, on 06/24/2009, -0/+3720p isn't much better than 480p, and looks ***** when upscaled on 1080p monitors.
Yes, I said 720p. Even though some 1080p games exist, the majority of triple-A published games are still 720p. Final Fantasy XIII and PS3 exclusives Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and LittleBigPlanet only render at 720p.
Fable 2 on the Xbox 360 renders at 1080p, but the game is very choppy if you do so (think page tearing, and there is no vsync option). - SirDinkus, on 06/24/2009, -1/+4Hey asswipe I'm critiquing an industry that im going to be a part of in less than a years time. You can't begin to believe what some of these companys will throw funds at as long as some witless 12 year old will make the mistake of buying it. I applaud nintendo for their quality and attitude when it comes to their main franchises. You know nothing troll.
- MatchStick, on 06/24/2009, -0/+3Octoberlull, i buried you, and then clicked "show" and "> replies" just to see what others said about you.
- emjaymj, on 06/24/2009, -0/+3Don't know about you, but I personally value better art and design more than I do an increased poly count...
