- ilvcountry5, on 02/03/2008, -8/+566On one hand, I think it's awesome that he does this.
On the other, I bet his wife is going to kill him, and that will severely limit his ability to conduct more research. - edge4552, on 02/03/2008, -4/+533I have a new found respect for that virtual floating head.
- Smwbigboss, on 02/03/2008, -2/+435He'd rather use the money for research rather than his own personal gain. This man is a true scientist, you have to respect that.
- FinalLimit, on 02/03/2008, -9/+292“Everyone in my family is mad at me but I tell them that if they want money, go out and earn it,"
^^ That is so true. He earned that money, no one else can really tell him what should be done with it. - bincoder, on 02/03/2008, -4/+270The silly japanese are always making foolish decisions, like investing towards the future, rather than going shopping.
- ursername180, on 02/03/2008, -14/+219He could've used that money for some plastic surgery. His face is very square-ish and wrinkly. :/
- inactive, on 02/03/2008, -6/+166Thankfully he won't be bringing an asian Paris Hilton into the world. I, for one, am glad.
- BlueSkyfish, on 02/03/2008, -4/+160"The professor believes in strict discipline for young children and disagrees with the notion of making study fun."
And this is coming from the guy who made Brain Age. - fkr3, on 02/03/2008, -4/+68It's incredibly noble and selfless of him to do it, but I think when he tells her to "go out and earn it" she won't kill him, she'll get her revenge by earning it the easy way.
- luet, on 02/03/2008, -0/+57“Everyone in my family is mad at me but I tell them that if they want money, go out and earn it,"
HOLY ***** BADASS - h4mx0r, on 02/03/2008, -3/+60His wife is going to think he's brain dead.
- oofgeg, on 02/03/2008, -46/+100If he was American, he would be suing them for more money, and trying to find a way to not give the University half.
- ohhoe, on 02/03/2008, -14/+67Oh sweet! More generalizations, because every single American is greedy and sues everyone.
*yawns* - sougly, on 02/03/2008, -2/+55If I were him, I'd be more concerned with using that money to buy a body to put my head on.
- YathKabaas, on 02/03/2008, -4/+57Top story on Digg tomorrow:
"Dr. Kawashima held at gunpoint by wife to accept Brain Age royalties" - Pake, on 02/03/2008, -2/+51Divorce and arguing that just because he doesn't want it, she's still entitled to it?
- sleepycoder, on 02/03/2008, -13/+52That's a bit unfair to his wife if she stayed at home and took care of all of his domestic needs while he was free to pursue his research. She at least should have some say in this. Other than that, you've got to respect a guy who still believes that money should be earned by working.
- bigdsinferno, on 02/03/2008, -10/+46...but you know you wanted to see the videos.
- ursername180, on 02/03/2008, -2/+37Dr.Kawashima's brain age is... 70
*play disappointing music* - bobbothegrayson, on 02/03/2008, -0/+34No, you're just a greedy bastard.
- daliminator, on 02/03/2008, -1/+31...prostitution?
- johnstar, on 02/03/2008, -9/+38money != happyness
- gak001, on 02/03/2008, -3/+25Now I, as an American, enjoy a little America-bashing as much as the next guy - I think our country collectively has an ego and needs to be taken down a peg, but I'm going to have to say that you severely underestimate American Academia. We have some of the best and brightest AND selfless scientists in the world. Our scientists have done a lot of very valuable work and, for the most part, humbly. I believe we're still leading in Nobel prizes. The ignorant common man - yes, he's a selfish, litigious prick, but please give credit where credit is due.
- fkr3, on 02/03/2008, -0/+22You win.
- SpeedyG, on 02/03/2008, -1/+22It's not clear in the article how wide a net is cast by the term "family". The angry family members could very easily be of the distant cousin/third aunt/in-laws variety.
- Chaulis, on 02/03/2008, -2/+23I don't believe "free to do his research" should enter into that argument. He worked, supported the family with something that he loved instead of working some ***** job he hates but is afraid to lose. She should be happy that she married a guy who is altruistic enough to give the money to all the other projects in the world that need funding so badly that can go to saving god knows what, for who knows, but we wouldn't know with out that cash donation to such a cause.
- Bonobo, on 02/03/2008, -3/+24Digg has little faith in our country, while i agree that theres A LOT of terrible things that are wrong, it's not helping by having 100% of all America related articles telling us our country is going to *****.
- evensong, on 02/03/2008, -2/+23Original story, without the blog spam summary:
http://afp.google.com/article/ALeqM5gMwDe1ovbiILht ... - relaxeder, on 04/17/2009, -3/+23That's so cool of him.
- warrenterr, on 02/03/2008, -2/+22not to mention no sex
- agimat, on 02/03/2008, -0/+20happiness != happyness
- SaladCactusKing, on 02/03/2008, -1/+20in glorious nippon everything is perfect and beautiful anime women will sleep with you because they love westerners. in glorious nippon you can be 500 pounds and a wear a full metal alchemist shirt and they will love you! ^_^
- luet, on 02/03/2008, -0/+19You need to excercise your prefrontal cortex more often to avoid posting comments like this.
- sonicularulus, on 02/03/2008, -4/+23Smart move. Put his money into other research that will make him much richer over time. Duh!
Say a brain age cubed (brain age 3)... - smacksaw, on 02/03/2008, -0/+18$7.14/sq ft for a 32,000 sq ft home?
Your brain age is: Retarded - rory096, on 02/03/2008, -0/+18I can see you clearly read the article thoroughly and completely.
- grantmoore3d, on 02/03/2008, -3/+20I'm guessing she'll then proceed to buy him a copy of Brain Age
- topace3000, on 02/03/2008, -0/+16Baller. A true scientist.
- BaconXBits, on 02/03/2008, -0/+16How does one have sex with a floating polygon head?
- Hudexter, on 02/03/2008, -2/+17I like the comments on the original website.

He'd be more humble if he took the royalties and donated them to worthy causes.
Posted by lskennedy on 02/03/2008 at 12:40AM
Wasabi, i agree.
Because donating money to cancer research isn't humble anymore. Everyone knows that. lol what douche bags. - Rheic, on 02/03/2008, -0/+14Use your imagination.
- kidcodea, on 02/03/2008, -1/+15the fun in studying comes from the understanding. understanding is hardwork. you have to work for fun.
that simple imho.
however they fill libraries with the ***** that goes on in about the subject - MusicalGenius, on 02/03/2008, -3/+16Really, if everyone just gave a LITTLE effort for the world everything would change. This man is very ahead of this concept and the rest of the world can't even grasp the smaller form.
- Smwbigboss, on 02/03/2008, -0/+13He already spent 1/3 of it building laboratories for his university, I'm guessing he'll continue to do so over the next few months.
- DCJoeDogaswell, on 02/03/2008, -1/+13and I do.
- Elranzer, on 02/03/2008, -1/+13Dr Kawashima may be a real person, but his in-game appearance is actually modeled after Nintendo president Satoru Iwata.
- Birdoftruth, on 02/03/2008, -2/+14digg get! my friend. people don't understand that materials are just used to fill voids in people's lives that could be filled with non material possessions such as joy in work and family etc..
- sirjimbob, on 02/03/2008, -0/+11**Walking Speed**
- esecasco, on 02/03/2008, -1/+12I also agree that he is incredibly awesome for this, I'm going to play brain age and brain age 2 even more knowing that someone this altruistic helped to create these "games"
On the note of his wife, I'd like to think that 1. He's probably doing pretty well, and 2. that she understands/supports him and will "reward" him for his ability to be a superman - gfnw, on 02/03/2008, -1/+12If your family would disassociate with you over money, I pity you.
