- LordofChaosIori, on 01/24/2008, -3/+86We're one small step closer to a Nintendo-themed game park... please, someone make it happen.
- typicalusername, on 01/24/2008, -7/+64You gotta rent a damn flash card for it!? WTF? Another thing that Disney will charge me $50 to $100 to rent out. No thank you. Give me a ***** paper that's free, and I'll play games on DS when I'm waiting in the ***** huge lines!
- kiiwii, on 01/24/2008, -0/+47The article doesn't mention that you can't use your own DS, you rent a GPS customized DS from Disney.
It's a great idea, but you should also be able to use your own DS with limited functionality. Just knowing the wait times for the rides throughout the park would be great. The GPS functionality is really cool, but even without it there's a lot that could be done. - ShockwaveV, on 01/24/2008, -3/+48It's a good idea in theory. Just one problem with it, though. "Ohh mommy, I wanna play Nintendogs on Space Mountain. Yaaaaaaayyyyyy... Noooooooooooooo!"
- Number23, on 01/24/2008, -1/+38One thing kids like is to be tricked. For instance, I was going to take my little nephew to Disneyland, but instead I drove him to an old burned-out warehouse. "Oh, no," I said. "Disneyland burned down." He cried and cried, but I think that deep down, he thought it was a pretty good joke. I started to drive over to the real Disneyland, but it was getting pretty late.
- Jack Handy - DPowers08, on 01/24/2008, -0/+26"Don't Forget Your DS Next Time You Go To Disney!"
Or do, since you can't use your own. - sinizuh, on 01/24/2008, -0/+24If Nintendo can set up download station in EBs, why can't they set up one to download a guide in Disneyland? It's pretty much the exact same thing.
- DarthSupero, on 01/24/2008, -3/+19No, and neither should you.
AdBlock, of course. - kiiwii, on 01/24/2008, -2/+17If you put aside your blind hated for corporations and gave it a try you might realize how great a place it is to visit, young or old.
- Shorties, on 01/24/2008, -0/+11The fact that you can find out what the wait times in real time make the whole thing worth it!
- Urusai, on 01/24/2008, -1/+10I want to stomp turtles and mushrooms!
- scabbers, on 01/24/2008, -4/+12Inaccurate title, so I'm going to bury the living ***** out of this thing. With one minus digg.
- JRW5061, on 01/24/2008, -2/+10LOL that would be so awesome. I can picture it now. Excite Bike merry go round, Epona petting zoo, Mario kart go karts, guys walking around in mario and Link costumes.
- Darthyoshiboy, on 01/24/2008, -0/+8The pamphlet in the article says that the software puts itself into sleep mode before getting on to attractions.
- chiller2002, on 01/24/2008, -0/+7FastPass!
- YoctoYotta, on 01/24/2008, -0/+6This DS in the article has GPS (or some kind of wifi triangulation) built in, which requires a bit of hardware that's sticking out where the GBA slot is. Using a personal DS would be nice though.
- TheWorm, on 01/24/2008, -3/+9Whenever someone mentions ads you just know there will be that one holier than thou douchebag who tries to tell you you're a moron if you don't use adblock. Not calling the guy above me a douchebag, but seriously, not everyone uses Firefox.
- clearzen, on 01/24/2008, -4/+10Did anyone notice the Disney ads on digg today?
- johnstar, on 01/24/2008, -0/+5using wifi beacons it could give a sudo gps that would rock!
- bxblox, on 01/24/2008, -0/+5buried as totally freakin inaccurate title... it should read "Forget Your DS Next Time You Go To Disney!" cuz you're gonna have to rent one from them...
- theragu40, on 01/24/2008, -0/+5If you were trying to be serious...you failed.
If you were trying to be funny...well, you still failed. Sorry. - Insomnya3AM, on 01/24/2008, -0/+5psuedo-gps would be even neater.
- YoctoYotta, on 01/24/2008, -0/+5Yeah, Disney World as an architectural undertaking is amazing in and of itself. The rides and attractions are just the icing on the cake, an damn good icing.
- bilbravo, on 01/24/2008, -0/+4Touching is good (TM).
- Elranzer, on 01/24/2008, -0/+4Here's a Disney World tip if you're older (18+):
Go during the back-to-school season (September through mid-November).
Late-September starts the Food & Wine Festival - international food and wine samples found all around Epcot. The weather is cool, clear, and slightly dryer (Florida's version of Autumn). The lines are non-existent due to the Fall being the least-popular time to take family vacations. You can get on rides such as Splash Mountain, which normally has a three-hour wait, in 10 minutes or less. Great time to go as an adult. Plenty of other young adults and couples from around the USA (and the world) to converse with, without children everywhere.
As far as I'm concerned, it's the only way to enjoy Disney World if you're an adult traveler with no kids. - gewf631, on 01/24/2008, -0/+3Great concept, but just another way for Disney to rape its customers. Just visited Disneyworld on Monday - customer service is gone, prices have increased, and park maintenance is becoming a joke (monorail broke-down just as the park was closing - took 2 hours to get to my car and leave).
- Twee, on 01/24/2008, -1/+4I use Safari because Firefox doesn't render a lot of pages with embedded flash videos correctly.
- dewdrinker19, on 01/24/2008, -0/+3Not trying to bring attention to the article I posted yesterday on same topic, but WAY MORE SCREENS AND INFO...
http://forums.wdwmagic.com/showthread.php?t=265097 ... - SEGA4life, on 01/24/2008, -1/+4Amazing Idea.
- MethodOne, on 01/24/2008, -0/+3Do you mean MPAA?
- YoctoYotta, on 01/24/2008, -0/+2I agree 100%, the light crowds are awesome. The only bummer is they close a higher volume of rides for refurbishing during that time of the year, too, so you might miss out on some really cool attractions.
- DaveMode, on 01/24/2008, -0/+2I got a chance to actually test/play with this system at Disney World a couple of months ago. I would say to a family that has at least one registered Digg member in it, it would be completely awesome. To your average sweaty tourist...not so much.
- Seafea, on 01/24/2008, -0/+2Your loss. You're really missin out though. Disneyworld is awesome, and this is a pretty interesting application for a DS.
- Khast, on 01/24/2008, -0/+2What they ought to do, is license a "DS" pamphlet, that you could buy as a souvenir. Kind of like the maps, but digital, having the full map of the park, and photos, minigames, ect. (Marketing idea.) Download for free, but if you buy a hardcopy, you can keep it. (I'd be in, as I love corny souvenirs.)
- bonlebon, on 01/24/2008, -1/+312:42 am...??? daaaamn!!!
- supermanred, on 01/24/2008, -0/+2They should make a mobile web app, seeing as most people have celphones and not everyone has a DS
- kmckanna, on 01/24/2008, -0/+2Go back to 1999 when using that kind of joke was somewhat "funny."
- kevro, on 01/24/2008, -1/+3I want a GPS pack for my DS and a game that has you going on real world quests!! gaming, exploring and fitness....cool.
- Murdats, on 01/24/2008, -0/+2ever think that the gps unit could be put in the GBA slot of any ds?
after all it is also for expansion stuff (extra memory for browser, rumble, and other stuff) - jgoodstein, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1I imagine they will make just the cartridge available for rent or purchase, and you will be able to use your own DS. they already have a mickeymouse doll that does the same stuff.
- cdnbmatt, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1Funny...I was just there a little under two weeks ago and had pretty much the exact opposite experience as you. Mechanical issues can happen any place at any time regardless of how well something is maintained.
- FreydNot, on 01/25/2008, -0/+1Put me down for the Mario Carts
- BurntToast, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1Did you guys even READ? It's a test still... it's not fully launched yet. They are not letting peple use their own DS, it's a customized one currently that they use for TESTING. Geeze.
- fhornplayer, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1sudo make me a sandwich
- YoctoYotta, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1Yeah, I did think that. That would be cool. Shame Disney isn't doing that. If Disney wanted to do so, they'd either have to charge a deposit or sell the hardware, neither of which I object to.
- robwolf100, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1During the theatrical release of Pirates 3, Disneyland had a station were you could bring your psp and a copy of the latest pirates game and download exclusive content.
- schavira, on 01/24/2008, -1/+2Go back to 2005.
- jjgames, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1I really want to try this out. I'm almost tempted to tell my wife we should go to Disney for our next vacation just so I can try it out.
- Iggins, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1I can only imagine what the big cigarette button does...
- TypeEE, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1Please add Mario, Link, Mushrooms to disney worl
