- petemcfraser, on 11/10/2007, -1/+58I'm sorry Mario, but our copy of Super Mario Galaxy is in another store...
- eternal464, on 11/14/2007, -4/+39Sorry, this is a positive story about Best Buy. Please post at another website or use alternate title not including the phrase "Best Buy"
- bffoley, on 11/14/2007, -0/+32Nintendo's lawyers?
- directive0, on 11/10/2007, -0/+19All I can tell you all is this game is worth a lot of the hype it's getting. I only got to the Bee suit last night as I was pressed for time, but once work ends today its going to be an all night Mario session like its 1985.
- dyreschlock, on 11/11/2007, -2/+18meh.. I'd rather buy it at Toys R Us, street date broken or not. Toys R Us is giving away a $25 gift card with purchase.
- atomicpoet, on 11/08/2007, -2/+18First of all, when a retailer decides to stock merchandise, they sign an agreement with the publisher that they will not break the street date. And they don't fine the retailer en masse, they fine individual stores. The only good reason to break the street date is if the retailer thinks breaking the street date will make them more money than the thousands of dollars they'll lose otherwise. Either that, or they think they won't get caught. Most of the time, they do get caught as other retailers begin calling in to report the street date violation. Other retailers get so troubled by street violations that they are more than willing to walk into the offending store, purchase the offending article, and fax us the receipt.
And if you want to talk about alienating retailers, alienating Best Buy is by far less nerve-racking than alienating every retailer that is *not* Best Buy. Trust me, it would hurt Best Buy more as everyone starts going to Wal Mart or GameStop to buy their Wii wares. - atomicpoet, on 11/14/2007, -5/+17Best Buy must be looking to make a lot of money off of this. To violate street dates could cost an individual store $20 000 and some terrible legal fees. I can't say more due to non-disclosure agreements, but trust me, I know.
- DragonQuester, on 11/14/2007, -3/+12Guess who's going to Best Buy when they open!!!
- Brian48216, on 11/08/2007, -2/+11I got mine from a walmart that accidentally broke the date. I got my copy before they realized it.
And it's beautiful.
Truly. Beautiful. - badtiki, on 11/08/2007, -1/+9Umm no. Street dates used to be critical. See, a long time ago there were stores referred to as "Mom and Pop" stores, or the little guy - Stores independently owned. Street dates were used so the "Little guy" was able to have a fair chance selling his product allowing ALL stores to start selling on the same day since mom and pop had to go through distributors and Bog Box Mart bought directly from Nintendo or others allowing them to get the product alot sooner.
- johnhummel, on 11/08/2007, -0/+7Last time I checked, Nintendo is not a "small publisher".
- inactive, on 11/08/2007, -5/+12Who cares about street dates? ***** seriously.
They're so anal about something so trivial. If the stores already have them, then just ***** sell them instead of playing stupid power-trip games. "OMG better not release it until next week even though you have it!"
Here's a hint: if you don't want people breaking your release date, then don't send it out a week ahead of time. - inactive, on 11/08/2007, -2/+9http://gonintendo.com/?p=28919 with pic of box and receipt
- DanarchyX, on 11/08/2007, -0/+6My local BestBuy confirmed they had them early but are fined $25,000 for every copy sold before street date.
- Ben174, on 11/08/2007, -0/+6I seriously must say SMG has restored my faith in video games in general. Lately it seems gaming has been going a different (bad) direction, and SMG really just put things back on course.
- atomicpoet, on 11/08/2007, -0/+6We're not talking about smaller publishers here. We're talking about Nintendo. If you don't think the big three console makers have sway over retailers, you are sadly mistaken.
And unfortunately, you'll probably never see documentation of stores being fined because it's all hidden behind non-disclosure agreements. With that in mind, let me personally attest that it does happen and I've seen terrible consequences when stores break street dates. - atomicpoet, on 11/08/2007, -0/+5@XxXoldsaltXxX: Why would I do that just for one post?
- atomicpoet, on 11/07/2007, -0/+5No, I'm not. My profile links to my blog.
- Tadale, on 11/08/2007, -0/+5No luck in Valdosta, GA. I asked a clerk who had never heard of the game and he walked to the back to check. He came out holding a Wii game in his hand and my heart skipped a beat. When he handed it over it was Mario and Sonic at the Olympics.
:( - winnopeg, on 11/14/2007, -3/+8Probably US only. :/
- mywhitenoise, on 11/08/2007, -1/+6Does he? I was under the impression he already downloaded it.
- Dannychico, on 11/08/2007, -0/+5Not in Culver City, CA
- DragonQuester, on 11/08/2007, -0/+4The street date is still Nov. 13 at the Best Buy in State College, PA.
epic letdown... - gmiley, on 11/08/2007, -0/+4No, it's called an "investment"...
- ZachSka87, on 11/14/2007, -0/+4Or a deal with Nintendo. Doing this accidentally, even purposefully without permission means HARSH legal damages to the company. I bet Nintendo is in on it.
- bilbravo, on 11/08/2007, -1/+5I don't think this game needs "word of mouth". Just saying...
- RyGiL, on 11/08/2007, -0/+3Sounds about right ???
- ZachSka87, on 11/07/2007, -0/+3Your ignorance in the ways of business makes my head hurt.
- Ndiggnation, on 11/08/2007, -1/+4Dude, you know what? I've got a cat, and he has whiskers.
- Shadowhawk22, on 11/09/2007, -1/+4It seems Nintendo gets more attention, and gets great money for the fines (in the millions), all while 'Best' Buy gets the shortest possible end of the stick. I'm content.
This could make SMG create more revenue than any other game, all while doing it BEFORE the official release date! - dethsesh, on 11/08/2007, -1/+4For anyone claiming they are going to wait and buy it at their preferred store. You can just buy the game at best buy now, and when it comes out next week, buy it again at TRU and return that copy to best buy for the 50 dollars. Then its like getting the game a week early but still buying it from TRU.
Best Buy doesnt know if a specific copy of a game was bought at their store - gmiley, on 11/14/2007, -0/+3I called up the local Best Buy just a little while ago. They guy said I was the third person to ask if the game was out on the shelves today. Unfortunately, it isn't. :(
- BenKenobi88, on 11/08/2007, -0/+3Always go in person...just say you want to buy Super Mario Galaxy. If you talk on the phone or ask them if the game's out...they'll check and that's done.
- dethsesh, on 11/08/2007, -0/+3no its not, wrong on so many levels
- mywhitenoise, on 11/07/2007, -0/+3Then ***** call them already and stop posting the same ***** comment over and over again!
*****, you're annoying! - inactive, on 11/09/2007, -4/+6have fun with that, idiot.
- Br0wn, on 11/07/2007, -0/+2Even for a leaked game I had to wait for a release date for the WiiFree fix but it was well worth it.
- nathew, on 11/07/2007, -0/+2yeah, but how many thumbs do you have?
- Br0wn, on 11/07/2007, -0/+2I don't know if you were joking or not but it was leaked over a week ago. Only problem was it only worked if you had the WiiKey mod chip until recently the WiiFree temporary fix was released.
40 stars and counting. - Br0wn, on 11/07/2007, -0/+2I haven't gotten dizzy yet but sometimes its annoying where the camera stays normal when your running upside down, but thats part of the gameplay.
- busster, on 11/14/2007, -0/+2LOL :)
- darkspire, on 11/07/2007, -0/+2It's not every store, they are making everyone wait till Tuesday here in Reno.
- KingGoonie, on 11/07/2007, -2/+4uh... "I would never get this from BestBuy, even if they were the only store selling it." So he did literally say if Best Buy was the only store selling it, he would not buy the game. So.. to quote you.. reading comprehension FTW. We all know the game will be available everywhere, but going on that statement, he said he would not get the game if best buy was the only store selling it.
- aywwts4, on 11/09/2007, -1/+3Nevermind this post.
- inactive, on 11/08/2007, -0/+2His friends told him Best Buy sucks so now he likes to believe it.
- inactive, on 11/08/2007, -0/+2Ok ???
- BenKenobi88, on 11/07/2007, -0/+2Not me...I'm quite certain they won't be selling me a copy of SMG...so I'll just wait for the Toys R Us $25 gift card deal.
- mywhitenoise, on 11/07/2007, -0/+2How is this a positive story for Best Buy? They're breaking a release date to steal customers over, or they have bad employees who didn't know the game isn't supposed to be sold until Tuesday.
- inactive, on 11/07/2007, -0/+1they have money up the ass, they don't need your money, seems ironic
- KingGoonie, on 11/07/2007, -1/+2Did you go there in person or call up?
