- Bricks, on 10/10/2007, -4/+155Yeah well I'm waiting for the Australian game, Knifey/Spoony, to come out for Wii in America.
- ursername180, on 10/10/2007, -2/+138It's not just Nintendo though. Australia gets screwed over with many other game companies. I had to resist reading HL2 spoilers for about a month.
- ojno1rules, on 10/10/2007, -3/+89Knock it Off? .... that's a bit bloody soft
- ojno1rules, on 10/10/2007, -0/+81i see you've played knifey spooney before
- Timmyftw, on 10/10/2007, -1/+65Australia to Nintendo: Stop being such a *****
Better? - R3venG, on 10/10/2007, -3/+55I'm sick of these delays too. It's $%^#ing ridiculous. There's plenty of major games on other platforms that usually get released the same week worldwide - BioShock, Halo etc. We have to wait 5 months for Super Paper Mario? We speak ENGLISH, just like the US. It's complete BS that we have to wait MONTHS while they translate to every other effing language that we don't even need.
While we're still waiting just to play SPM, the U.S are now enjoying Metroid Prime 3. It's another major game from Nintendo that we're FORCED to wait another 2 months to play. I am so sick of this BS. It get's me so angry it's not funny.
Screw you Nintendo Australia, and/or anyone else that is to blame for these outrageous delays. Take a note from Microsofts book and get your major releases out everywhere within a reasonable time frame. - wiifm69, on 10/10/2007, -3/+51It's almost a 'cut your nose off to spite your face' scenario here, as Nintendo delays it's releases to NZ and Aus, the average Wii gamer is forced to either a) take it like a pussy and wait two months, or b) download it from the internet. Our 'broadband' (I use that term loosely) may suck arse down here, but it sure can download 4 gigs in two months.
- Batiu-Drami, on 10/10/2007, -0/+47$20 more is a bit of an understatement too.
We pay AU$100/US$81 for all launch games, compared to AU$61/US$50 which is what it costs in the US. Hell, X360 games (and PS3? I'm not sure) launch at $110 (US$90)
We get gypped, - Vich, on 10/10/2007, -1/+38Where the bloody hell are my games?
- KingBabi, on 10/10/2007, -2/+38Sarcasm isn't just lost on you people, it disappears totally.
- ByteGuerilla, on 10/10/2007, -0/+31Dead people can't star in games? This is grave news, as I was looking forward to Benjamin Disraeli's Extreme Lawmaking.
- HesNikke, on 10/10/2007, -1/+28how is it piracy to pay a premium to import a title (game, movie, book, tv show, etc) from another region when it is not available locally? i know thats the only reason i'd mod a system.
- stormgren, on 10/10/2007, -0/+26Oh, I don't know. You could perhaps... INCREASE THE SUPPLY.
- Detritus, on 10/10/2007, -16/+41I realize this sucks, but you've got to give them time for Localization. If you get games months later, imagine how long it takes for other 3rd World countries like Eastern European nations? Sure you guys might speak something similar to English but culturally you remain very distant. You won't be able to understand the complex narrative of Super Paper Mario without unique considerations such as: Dingos vis a vis Babies, toilets must flush in a counter-clockwise direction, etc.
Honestly you should be grateful that developers keep you in mind at all; your chief export is Wool! Other developing-western-nations like Brazil are often neglected entirely. - cragga, on 10/10/2007, -1/+22You can tell this guy doesn't have a DS either, because if he did he would be doubly pissed off at the ***** release schedule over here, luckily i got a time machine that lets me play these magical games from the future, it cost me about $40 and cost nintendo -$400 odd dollars, /hoist jolly roger
- DogGunn, on 10/10/2007, -2/+21ursername180, should've bought it on Steam!!
- Promantarius, on 10/10/2007, -4/+23Well, it just might be because Australia's total population equals just slightly higher than that of the state of New York, meaning it isn't exactly a huge economic target for game developers and there's no rush to get the games out. Pretty much why Blizzard never made WoW servers here too, it's entirely a pointless operation. Out in the middle of nowhere with a tiny population simply isn't going to generate as much money, so they focus on the other countries first.
- theone3, on 10/10/2007, -2/+21This is an Australian
- theone3, on 10/10/2007, -2/+21This is not an Australian.
Can you tell the difference? - gbro, on 10/10/2007, -0/+18Sounds like we need a series of them.
- benguild, on 10/10/2007, -0/+18Haha, couldn't agree more! Especially with the 'broadband' part. 250kb a second? Pfft.
- ThankTheCheese, on 10/10/2007, -0/+16not just restricted to games. Harry potter audiobook in US is $50 US, in Australia it is $115 AU
- Iceduck, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14Europe has to wait too. Super Paper Mario isn't out here yet. Nintendo has a REALLY dry lineup over here.
- beaumont911, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15Some X360 games are $120.
- jrbrewin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13just so you know.. the UK and most of europe get the exact same treatment. We bought our wii with the intention of playing mario galaxy, and paper early on.. instead we've had to wait, and wait and wait, and still the games aren't here. the wii is just a joke for new games at the minute.
- Detritus, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14Thank you KingBabi... Instantly I was modded down -3 after posting and I just sat there dumbfounded that anyone too seriously a comment that included the phrase, "Dingos vis a vis Babies".
Glad to see not everyone needs /sarcasm tags. - Abomonog, on 10/10/2007, -4/+16Hey, it's the government that ***** the Aussies, not the gaming companies. Try looking at your own laws and game rating system as the culprit. You own laws require every game to be subject to a lengthly review by your own bureaucrats before they can be sold. When a game is completed there is immense pressure to release it right away. Why should the rest of the world wait for a game just so the Aussie bureaucracy can have time to work it's mismanagement? Why should the dev teams who have gone months without a paycheck wait any longer to get paid? Unless stated otherwise, every dev team releases its games worldwide at the same time. The Aussies have to wait for an approval prossess that doesn't exist anywhere else. Don't blame Nintendo, blame your own government.
- tonyhartfield, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13don't forget the UK we also get nearly all of nintendo's wii releases several months after the U.S although we did get mario strikers charged and online play a couple of months early
- abhorsen, on 10/10/2007, -4/+15Does any one here actual give a dam about what any game company plans to do, I live in the UK and have not shopped here accept for food or bulk items for years. I buy everything off the net shipped from the USA my PC don't care weather DVDs are NTSC or PAL.
If something cost £60 here it cost $60 over there which is like £30 even plus £5 shipping its still cheaper. I don't buy things from UK shops any more i refuse to pay double the price simple cos i live here.
If the big game company's don't think the first thing hard core games do is mod there hardware to play games for any region then they are sadly delusion-ed. - tech42er, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10'Toilets that flush counter-clockwise' was gold.
- Gizza, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Yet we were able to get Wii Play months before the US. Joy....
- vawksel, on 10/10/2007, -4/+13Yes you speak english, but they still have to re-hire all the 3D modelers to make the water in any toilets in the game spin the other way.
They have to re-hire all the voice actors, send them to aussie accent training school, which is a 3 month course, and then re-record all the voices in your accent.
And any in-game money has to be reduced in value by about 15 to 20 cents per dollar which means editing every item in the game.
So yeah, please don't complain about a three month delay, it could be a lot worse given how backwards and upside down your country is.
[No, I'm not ***** adding a sarcasm tag, figure it out.] - catharz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Who says he's pirating?
Wii games are region locked. Australian law allows you to mod a console to play games from overseas. And importing a game is cheaper than buying locally. - KAMiKAZOW, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Australia is no separate region when it comes to region locking. Basicly Australia is considered to be the same region as Europe due the use of the PAL standard.
- catharz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8You can when we also get raped on prices here.
Importing is cheaper than buying locally and supporting our local games industry. - W0MB13, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10And this is why I have a Wiikey,
- DrunKao, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Most 360 games are released simultaneously worldwide.
People seem to be confused about the difference between 2K Boston and 2K Australia and what role they both played in the development of BioShock so I'll try to clear some things up here. 2K Boston is the headquarters for 2K Boston/2K Australia. BioShock was designed by 2k Boston and the lead development for BioShock was done by 2K Boston on the 360 and ported by 2K Australia to the PC. 2K Boston basically controls 2K Australia, with Ken Levine, the creator of BioShock, being the head of 2K Boston if my understanding in correct. - Jawsh91, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8UK ≠ Australia
- Ranneko, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Actually, some localisation on games would be nice.
Say if Animal Crossing actually followed the correct seasons down here, that would be good. - noisymime, on 10/10/2007, -1/+822mbit ADSL2+ is fine, except that its really only the connection speed from your house to the ISP. Australia being the way it is, there's no way you can even come close to downloading at your theoretical maximum across the country, let alone overseas, the tubes simply aren't big enough :(
- wakachamo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7No love for Europe?
- mammajamma101, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9Can't say I know too much about the games industry, but I'm totally with you as we in Britain have the same problem with late PAL releases, just not to the same extent.
Hate to say it, but capitalism dictates that the only thing Nintendo will listen to is profits.
I say screw them over by using mod chips even more. Once sales halve, they'll listen. - Kircle, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Wasn't BioShock developed by 2K Australia? That could explain why.
- qwertymania, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8Am I the only one who noticed the typo in the title?
- Murdats, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6yeah, but with the ds i can just buy my games from play-asia.com
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -5/+11'Then' and 'Than'...
... learn the difference. - Migwelion, on 10/10/2007, -19/+25Why the delay for metroid? The U.S. version has 4 euro language subtitles. Nintendo AU thanks for driving me to Mod and save some $!
- dodgyd55, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7looks like they will be importing from rip off Briton for English pal region games
- KingBabi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5At least you get some compensation, here in Europe they live with the misconception that 1 US dollar = 1 Euro.
Though I guess in the end it probably evens out, a 60 Euro game is 80 US dollars, just as a 100 Aus Dollars is 81 US. - SFX112, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I'm pretty sure the update is on the disk, thus eliminating the need for the internet.
