- inactive, on 07/05/2008, -73/+504On a related note, 75% of gamers have stopped playing their Wii altogether.
- dsmx, on 07/04/2008, -9/+239Who didn't see that coming?
- BowieX, on 07/05/2008, -16/+225Do you use Wii Fit faithfully everyday?
- 22% - I record my progress faithfully everyday
- 6% - Maybe once every two or three days
- 6% - Once a week
- 64% - Stopped using after purchase
The fact that 1 out of 3 users of ANY PRODUCT still uses it regularly 6 months* after purchase is a staggeringly good statistic, let alone for a fitness game. Futhermore, these statistics don't speak of the quality or performance of the game: clearly it's doing its job for about a quarter of owners, and a game cannot prevent the majority of people being lazy.
(*I presume most Japanese owners of the game bought it in December or early January aboard the hype.) - Synova, on 07/05/2008, -6/+201The problem is those Wii fits probably didn't have girlfriends without pants to accompany them.
- knute5, on 07/06/2008, -3/+105You could probably say the same thing for the Total Gym, treadmill, Bowflex, NordicTrak, etc. "Fitness" equipment has a drop-out rate.
- xParker, on 09/12/2008, -9/+91Knowing Japan, they probably have something better.
- ChileanGoD, on 07/05/2008, -45/+120Wii F...ail
- Carv, on 07/05/2008, -17/+77The only Wii game I've played for more than a week or so was Super Mario Galaxy. The thing is collecting dust now.
- NecroSexy, on 07/05/2008, -7/+57It was released last December, so those figures are actually flattering.
- inactive, on 07/06/2008, -3/+41No, it's more than enough. Sample size is not as important as realistic representation.
If 1,000 people contains a realistic representation of all types of gamers, the statistic is correct. If a million gamers are used as a sample but they all happen to be over 50, then the statistic is false.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sampling_(statistics) - stinger666, on 07/06/2008, -14/+50Just cause you casuals like playing 5 different, but the same, motion controlled games, don't mean 75% of gamers will keep playing that nonsense.
- j4nj1m3n3z, on 07/05/2008, -11/+47I'm pretty sure 64% of all American Wii owners don't even own the game.
- Dexter77, on 07/06/2008, -2/+36Catching 22% of people who wouldn't exercise otherwise at all, is an achievement in my opinion.
- efitz11, on 07/06/2008, -1/+34more like Wii Quit
- FlaWiio, on 07/06/2008, -4/+32I am still doing it almost everyday, 20-30 mins mixing balance games, push ups and other stuff, I never did in my life so I guess is a goal anyway.
- chaosblade77, on 07/05/2008, -0/+27Dunno about graphics, they are fine to me as long as developers actually put effort into them. But developers really need get serious and stop with the shovelware though, otherwise the Wii will die off not because of the console itself, but because no one is even trying to make any games for it besides cash in titles. Without good games there won't be as much interest, and nothing to cash in on...
Even Nintendo seems to be cashing in now... my brother has the GCN Mario Baseball and it's pretty fun (moreso than normal baseball games, to me at least), but the new one sounds horrible compared to the GCN one.
Controller is fine for some games, but most games really should offer GCN controller support and make the remote optional. - polvo, on 07/06/2008, -1/+28Most people always give on any exercise equipment regardless of how good it is. Humans are lazy SOBs.
- inactive, on 07/06/2008, -0/+26Cracky's Law: the longer that people discuss a problem (real or perceived), the higher the likelihood of someone blaming it on America.
- Andyschism, on 07/04/2008, -9/+34You walk around enough there as it is.
- Snokage, on 07/05/2008, -21/+46Wii is a great system being hurt by the lack of great games, and graphics.
Personally, the controls are much better and easy to get used to then a PS3/Xbox360. - atbnet, on 07/06/2008, -3/+28Not really, that is a fairly large sample. You figure most election statistics that are using to present the entire US voter population are composed of just a few thousand samples.

- LongShlong, on 07/05/2008, -7/+28People who bought into the hype of the NES Power Pad.
- CrackyJSquirrel, on 07/06/2008, -8/+29DAMN LAZY AMERCANS!! Oh wait.. Well, its still probably America's fault anyway, somehow. I am sure someone will figure out how to make that connection.
- Jack8274, on 07/06/2008, -0/+16Knowing Japan, they have robots to do their exercise for them.
- gm33, on 07/06/2008, -0/+16I'm pretty sure BowieX added up the 22%+6%+6%= 34% (percent of people who play it at least once per week) ~ 1/3.
- eryximachus, on 07/06/2008, -2/+17Someone obviously knows absolutely nothing about statistics.
- FrankTheTank17, on 07/06/2008, -3/+18This must be why Wii Fit isn't still being played anymore:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=YUVbv-nSV2U - kevinwiz, on 07/06/2008, -6/+21Quality post!
- Chuck95, on 07/06/2008, -2/+16See I don't get this really. People keep saying this, but everyone I know who has a Wii plays it all the time. We have had ours for a year and a half or so and still play it just as much as we ever did. We use it for casual family gaming which honestly is what its really geared towards. Its something we all can do together. I mean how many games are there on the Xbox or PS3 that a 4 year old can play? There's quite a few on the Wii...
- yamikaze, on 07/06/2008, -7/+21Knowing the Japanese, they probably don't need it like Americans do.
- Shaflugi, on 07/06/2008, -4/+17I dunno, I'm having quite a bit of fun with homebrew, Boom Blox, and Smash Bros.
- BowieX, on 07/05/2008, -2/+15Umm, I dunno. Do we? I don't. Do you?
- Jenadae, on 07/06/2008, -1/+14What's YOUR point?
- opnickc, on 07/06/2008, -18/+31Just cause you 'hardcores' like playing 5 different, but the same, first-person-shooter games, don't mean 75% of gamers will keep playing that nonsense.
- WraTH017, on 07/06/2008, -5/+17On a related note, 90% of people who bought MG4 at launch and finished it have stopped playing it already. This happens with games, it's no surprise.
- mikeyeah, on 07/06/2008, -0/+12Lazy Japanese! I'm still using mine, and I already lost 12 lbs.
- bagelmaster, on 07/06/2008, -0/+11The Japanese are jealous of our love handles and huge asses. There, I did it.
- kenvsryu, on 07/05/2008, -2/+13It's obvious you've never played track and field on the power pad.
- MonkeyHugger, on 07/06/2008, -1/+12The american market will quit soon.
Too much exercise. - LittlemanTAMU, on 07/06/2008, -1/+12Wow, two-thirds of people gave up on a fitness routine. In other news, it got dark last night when the sun went down. Seriously though, forgetting that this doesn't seem to be a scientific poll of any kind, it's kind of remarkable to me that one-third of people stuck with it. That's probably a higher retention rate than most other exercise routines.
- norm7, on 07/06/2008, -1/+11I'd have to agree about this being more positive than negative.
36% of people stick to an exercise routine for over 5 months? Not something you see everyday. - opiniastrous, on 07/06/2008, -1/+11As said above, 1000 people is a decent sampling size.
- JacobParker, on 07/06/2008, -0/+9What about the other 2%?
- Fooord, on 07/06/2008, -3/+12Oh that's how you play almost half of metal gear solid 4.
- SpeedyG, on 07/06/2008, -5/+14If you're reading this, you can probably think of at least one thing you got last Christmas that you aren't using now. You could put just about any game in the headline and it would work just the same.
And BTW, if you're not using your Wii Fit anymore, how about hooking me up with it? I sure as hell can't find one anywhere. =D - s0nicfreak, on 07/06/2008, -0/+8Because they can't find a copy.
- qbthemc, on 07/06/2008, -2/+10Slow news day on digg.com.
- thailand1972, on 07/06/2008, -2/+9Not being obese doesn't mean you are fit.
- mickhead, on 07/06/2008, -0/+7My usage of it did go down dramatically after the first couple of weeks. I was on it every day. But now its once or twice a week, for an hour at a time. 30mins of exercises, then 30mins of arobics/balance games. Its better than nothing!
