- Bic823, on 11/18/2008, -1/+46Man, Gamecube was sweet. Half the reason I have a wii is so I can play Gamecube games as well...
Mario Strikers? RE4? Metroid Prime? Smash Bros? Man, I even loved Mario Sunshine. - rdhogan7713, on 11/18/2008, -1/+40Beyond Good and Evil is one of my all-time favorite video games.
- jjgames, on 11/17/2008, -2/+36Those are good, but Ikaruga is amazing. It is worth every penny. One of the best shooters of all time
- ProductNumber01, on 11/18/2008, -1/+25I still have Phantasy Star Online... Where can I sell it?
- jjgames, on 11/18/2008, -1/+21I think collectors care and some of these games are great. Zelda 4 Game Collection, Ikaruga, and Beyond Good and Evil, and Metal Gear are all good games
- TheKitchenSinkX, on 11/18/2008, -1/+19Uh, hello, Beyond Good & Evil was awesome.
- inactive, on 11/18/2008, -3/+17It puzzles me when people like you actually take the time to comment when you show no interest in this article whatsoever..
- WannaBeSquare, on 11/18/2008, -0/+14Sunshine was amazing, and I don't give a rats ass if you disagree. :P
- Slackersrule, on 11/18/2008, -0/+14I'm surprised Eternal Darkness isn't on the list, it took me at least a month to find.
- Darkangel754, on 11/18/2008, -1/+15I've heard about you people...the ones who bought the gamcube online adapter...
...I thought you were just a legend... - Jelga, on 11/18/2008, -0/+12Interesting list. I have the Twin Snakes, didn't realize it's a rare game now.
- TheRealDeuce, on 11/18/2008, -0/+11WTF! WHY DID MY TV SHUT OFF?!?! ... oh.
- Nephersir7, on 11/18/2008, -1/+11Pokemon Box $110 ? WTF????
- inactive, on 11/18/2008, -0/+9Did anyone notice how many were SEGA games?
Somehow I wonder why Puyo Pop Fever (the English Version) isn't even more rare. It's like the least popular Sonic Team game there is. - liljerk, on 11/18/2008, -2/+11the xbox live arcade version is vastly superior to the gamecube version, and it's only $10.
plus you can rotate your HDTV 90 degrees (if you have a lightweight LCD or something) and play it that way, which is amazing. - imronburgundy83, on 11/18/2008, -0/+8meh
- BaconPopinski, on 11/18/2008, -0/+8Here ye are:
NCAA College Basketball 2K3
New Price: $400
Used Price: $37
The rarest game for the Gamecube. NCAA Basketball 2K3 is a college basketball game on the Gamecube so it wasn't destined to sell very well. Sega helped seal the deal when they cancelled all 2K series games on the Gamecube and stopped this game in the middle of production. This is one of the few sports games to become rare and valuable on any system.
--
Phantasy Star Online Plus
New Price: $200
Used Price: $58
Phantasy Star Online Plus is a rerelease of the Phantasy Star Online game for Gamecube (also on this list). The Plus version fixed a few bugs in the intial release and added a few extra areas. The game sold poorly because it was an online game released after everyone realized the Gamecube's online was dead on arrival.
--
Digimon Rumble Arena 2
New Price: $200
Used Price: $30
Digimon Rumble Arena 2 is similar to Super Smash Bros in gameplay but uses the Digimon characters. Its a sequel to the original Digimon Rumble Arena but did not sell as well as the original. The game received a lukewarm reception from critics but is still valued by collectors.
--
Beyond Good and Evil
New Price: $198
Used Price: $22
Beyond Good and Evil was released by Ubisoft in 2003 on every console. It was reviewed well but sold poorly on all systems. In May 2008, Ubisoft leaked a teaser trailer for Beyond Good and Evil 2 which sparked more interest in the original and increased prices.
--
Dance Dance Revolution Mario Mix Bundle
New Price: $160
Used Price: $44
DDR Mario Mix is a regular DDR game with Mario characters, music, and art. It is the only US released DDR game on the Gamecube. Nintendo released the game in limited quantities for the 2005 Christmas season and it quickly sold out. In early 2006 Nintendo restocked shelves but quietly discontinued the game soon after.
--
Phantasy Star Online Episode 1 & 2
New Price: $150
Used Price: $42
A role playing game with a focus on online co-op play. Sega released this game as the marquee title for the Gamecube's online service. The service never caught on and Phantasy Star Online sales suffered. Sega shut down their servers in 2007 but you can still play the game solo or with 4 player split screen.
--
Resident Evil Code Veronica X
New Price: $150
Used Price: $31
This was one of the four Resident Evil games Capcom re-released on Gamecube. Code Veronica and Resident Evil 2 received limited production runs after the Gamecube's poor sales. After Resident Evil 4 released on the Gamecube prices spiked for all four RE games but only Code Veronica's prices remained high enough to make this list.
--
Metal Gear Solid Twin Snakes
New Price: $140
Used Price: $40
Twin Snakes is a remake of the original Metal Gear Solid for PS1 and was co-developed by Silicon Knights and Konami. Development was overseen by Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima and Shigeru Miyamoto. Critics loved the game and gave it an 85 average on Metacritic but the remake didn't sell as well as the original.
--
Ikaruga
New Price: $140
Used Price: $34
Ikaruga is a shooter originally released for Arcade and Dreamcast. In general, the shooter genre doesn't sell very well and Ikaruga was no exception. The game is ranked as the 2nd best 2D shooter by ScrewAttack and the 3rd greatest shooter by IGN.
--
Pokemon Box
New Price: $110
Used Price: $45
Pokemon Box isn't a game but allows players to store and sort Pokemon from the Gameboy Advance Pokemon games. In the US the game was only sold at the Nintendo World store and online, which limited the sales. The European version was never sold in stores but available through the Nintendo of Europe loyalty program.
--
Cubivore
New Price: $100
Used Price: $30
Cubivore is a action/adventure game with some RPG elements. You raise your creature through different mutations and offspring until you can defeat the Killer Cubivore. The game was called "Animal Leader" in Japan and was brought to the US by Atlus. Like most of their games, Cubivore received a very limited production.
--
Star Wars Jedi Outcast
New Price: $100
Used Price: $25
Jedi Outcast is an Action game original released on the PC and later ported to the Gamecube and Xbox in 2002. The game has you playing as a former Jedi Knight and lets you use lightsabers, blasters, and turrets. Jedi Outcast was the only LucasArts published title on the Gamecube and did not sell as well as the Rogue Leader games published by Nintendo. - inactive, on 11/18/2008, -1/+9Same here. Nintendo did an *excellent* job of making sure all the game cube kit works flawlessly on the Wii.
- justaddwater, on 11/17/2008, -0/+7agreed. tough but beautiful
- Dgen_X, on 11/18/2008, -0/+7I wouldn't have expected Twin Snakes to be on the list...bought that one on the day it came out. Too bad I didn't buy a second one to keep, unopened....as if it would actually sell for $140
- Tanze, on 11/18/2008, -1/+8i hear ya. im just shaking my head now, remembering that i actually bought the modem adapter.
damn you 14 year old self! damn you! - Nero9171, on 11/18/2008, -0/+7Ebay?
- bjorna, on 11/18/2008, -1/+8Dugg for being on one page :)
- Elranzer, on 11/18/2008, -0/+6Grabbed by the Ghoulies would like to have a word with you.
- TheTjalian, on 11/18/2008, -0/+6Sonic The Hedgehog PS3 version says hi.
- sdigroup, on 11/18/2008, -0/+5Ikaruga is the *****!
- joehobbes, on 11/18/2008, -2/+7Could this be anything more like Racketboy's series?
http://www.racketboy.com/guide/the-rarest-and-most ... - BabyWookie, on 11/18/2008, -0/+5That's because the Wii is basically an overclocked GameCube.
- Kali075, on 11/19/2008, -0/+5Don't sell the best game ever!
- kakwakas, on 11/18/2008, -4/+9Not sure if this goes against Digg's TOS, but...
If you still have PSO (any version, actually) check out www.schtserv.com :]
[edit] And $150 my ass. There's a ton of them on ebay for $10-30. - Elranzer, on 11/18/2008, -0/+5Inaccurate, gamingforever
- MewTwo, on 11/18/2008, -0/+5Oh ***** do you have the dance pad with it? Just kidding
- xxMarka, on 11/18/2008, -0/+5i agree, Metroid Prime and Sunshine are timeless
- Claude1971, on 11/18/2008, -0/+4can anyone list the games, my workplaces blocked the site! rrrgggh!
- TheRascalKing, on 11/18/2008, -0/+4I don't know if anyone here has ever heard of this cool new website, "eBay", but according to it, Pokemon Box is only going for around $30 tops.
- Shaflugi, on 11/18/2008, -0/+4Play the PC version, you don't have to re-buy any adapters and it's got a lot more content.
- benderillo, on 11/18/2008, -1/+5my pokemons, let me show you them.
- XorpheusX, on 11/18/2008, -1/+5When I bought Twin Snakes, it was a used copy at Blockbuster for $10 :D
I would never sell it, though; MGS is a amazing game, start to finish. Fire Emblem, however, I've been meaning to get rid of... - nytejade, on 11/18/2008, -0/+4List is missing Super Smash Brothers Melee, which still goes for about $45, used.
- hartley, on 11/18/2008, -0/+4People have a hard time paying full price for a Puyo Pop game outside of a handheld. (with handheld prices)
- Shaflugi, on 11/18/2008, -0/+4Well, you can play online on the PC version (PSO Blue Burst) for free using a private server, which is even more populated than the official servers ever were. It's pretty cool, it's got all the stuff PSOGC does, but with a new episode and a bunch of new weapons.
http://www.schtserv.com/download.php - oliversan, on 11/18/2008, -0/+4Holy ***** I have the Twin Snakes :D
- Dwebtron, on 11/18/2008, -4/+8he's right
- resueht, on 11/18/2008, -0/+4Yeah, I had no intention of buying a rare game when i got Mario Mix. It was my DDR phase; everyone has them
- Nephrastar, on 11/18/2008, -0/+4I have Ikagura and PSO episodes one and two... unfortunatel my gamecube is no more.
I know what this means :D - doshindude, on 11/18/2008, -0/+4I remember when DDR:MM came out...I actually picked it up and it was a good game...I had no idea that the game would get discontinued so fast...IIRC it was a pretty popular game when it came out
- springboks, on 11/18/2008, -0/+3I've heard of some of these, but that's the fist time I've even seen the box covers.
- Duffle, on 11/18/2008, -0/+3Dugg for tweens. Eew.
- TWiThead, on 11/18/2008, -1/+4"The Gamecube had it's share of rare and collectible games during it's six year life span."
I can tolerate the use of "Gamecube" instead of "GameCube" and the missing hyphen in "six-year," but seeing two instances of "it's" instead of "its" in an article's first sentence isn't particularly reassuring. -
