- SoulGrub, on 04/16/2009, -2/+42Still can't quite fathom why anyone would fork out this kind of money if they already have a ds lite.
- Topher06, on 04/16/2009, -3/+29Because Nintendo squarely markets to those with ADD and short term memory loss.
- depro9, on 04/16/2009, -3/+2810: Buy a New Flash Cart:
***** LOL! - doshindude, on 04/16/2009, -6/+29All pointless features.
- RegalBegal, on 04/16/2009, -3/+23Sexting
- vileS, on 04/16/2009, -1/+19I picked one up for the larger screen and music functionality. The store has some pretty cool potential too.
Nothing wrong with the DS Lite, but the extras of the DSi were appealing enough for me. - Doomsan, on 04/16/2009, -1/+14Play games?
- arobicha, on 04/16/2009, -0/+8playing a game made #9... not 1, not 2, freaking 9...
- MasonZombie, on 04/16/2009, -2/+10Are you kidding? The Phat looked awful. It was like Jeff Goldblum at the end of The Fly. And I suppose the Lite would be good ol' sexy Goldblum from earlier in the movie.
- apec766, on 04/16/2009, -1/+8I snagged one for the larger screen and the DSiWare. Then again, I was also upgrading from the classic DS, and I never used the GBA slot, so the decision for me was easy.
- donquixote235, on 04/16/2009, -2/+76 things you CAN'T do with the DSi:
1. Play your old Gameboy games (no Gameboy slot)
2. Play Guitar Hero World Tour (which just came out within the past year) (again, no Gameboy slot - GHWT uses it)
3. Play mp3's (sorry, only AAC-based codecs; the mp3 codec is not present)
4. Use the rumble-pak for the DS (yet again, no Gameboy slot - see a pattern?)
5. Play on battery as long - the DSi battery life is noticably shorter than the DS's
6. Play homebrew titles (unless you're lucky enough to own a loader that doesn't rely on - yes, again - the Gameboy slot)
Yes, I realize that four of the six items revolve around the GBA slot. :) - Daemastrius, on 04/16/2009, -3/+8The DSi has beefed up internals.
4 times as much RAM as the DS phat and lite. - ReDoEr, on 04/16/2009, -3/+7thieving douche
- mdoom, on 04/16/2009, -1/+4Yeah, the lite is/was better than the original, but wasn't enough for me to upgrade to the lite. However, the original I got 4 years ago, so I finally upgraded to the DSi now and love it! Was a reasonable upgrade. Its been awhile, enough was new with it, and the price isn't bad.
- birch25, on 04/16/2009, -2/+5The DSi adds a couple of cameras and a store. I got my DS Lite last fall and I have zero interest in upgrading.
- Zippo, on 04/16/2009, -2/+5I'm going to pass on the DSi for now. I don't play my DS Lite nearly enough to justify spending $200 and replacing it. Not to mention most of what I -do- play is from my R4DS.
Honestly, the next generation of portable gaming has got to have a wide touch screen and accelerometers like the iPhone, but still have some buttons. - HyperStoneHeist, on 04/17/2009, -0/+311. Dunk in toilet.
- chewbacca77, on 04/16/2009, -1/+4Yes, you can connect to WPA.
- Pecka00, on 04/16/2009, -0/+3Lucky for me I've been playing Dr Kawashima's Brain Training...
Bet you didn't think that'd backfire, did you Mr Nintendo!
Oh wait a minute, was that already the joke?
What were we talking about again? - Irfit, on 04/16/2009, -1/+3Play GBA games?
- greedyemu, on 04/16/2009, -1/+3Video game system evolution has become this stagnant? *****.
- Garofoli, on 04/16/2009, -7/+9As for 10, you can get a DS reel, and torrent all DS games, put them on the card, and get unlimited amounts of games for free. The reel runs on a micro SD so you can have up to 8 gigs where each DS game is about 60mbs. You do the math.
- kanimara, on 04/20/2009, -0/+2And the #1 thing to do with the Nintendo DSI.. Not buy it.
- casbar, on 04/16/2009, -0/+2Slow writing day, eh author?
- freshgrease, on 04/16/2009, -0/+2Didn't work so well with mine. Had to get a secondary wifi router (using WEP (had a spare) and put it in a DMZ on my main router.
- freshgrease, on 04/16/2009, -1/+3I had a DS lite along time ago (when they came out, but the software library was retarded. So I sold it. I then saw that this thing had bigger screens (makes a difference for me), some cameras (will never use), and the software store. If they ever get retro games in that store, I would buy the ***** out of them.
i bought one on the launch day mostly to say I got a console on launch day after the disappointments of both the 360 and PS3 launches. Expensive, but it doesn't feel cheap like the DS lite. - levyjl1988, on 04/17/2009, -0/+2You can use the camera on your DSi to take pantsu shots in Japanese trains....
(awaiting pedobear comment) - Kotoyumu, on 04/16/2009, -2/+4The last one number 10 my acerkard 2i still works even with the current update.
- LR2_, on 04/16/2009, -0/+2Wait, are we talking about Nintendo or Apple?
- hatdrop, on 04/18/2009, -0/+1maybe i should give them my ds lite with the cruddy R button, those bastards and their video game gutting poilcies. though i'd regret it for the fact that they'd sell it back to some poor sap for 90 bucks or something.
- j035u5, on 04/16/2009, -0/+1Play the new Guitar Hero! Oh wait...
- j3rm1981, on 04/17/2009, -0/+1Couldn't agree more. Is one of the 10 things to do with the New Nintendo DSi "Leave it on the Shelf"?
- Garofoli, on 04/16/2009, -0/+1I can't tell if you or those who are digging you up, are being sarcastic.
- FlareHeart, on 04/16/2009, -2/+3I like my DS Lite since I can play some of my favorite games from my GBA on it. I have gotten rid of my GBA in favor of playing the games on the DS, so if I got the DSi I wouldn't be able to play them anymore. I'll stick to my DS Lite thanks.
- wiggles, on 04/16/2009, -1/+2I picked up a DSi, because GameStop was giving a trade-in allowance of $50 for old hardware on it. I traded in my wife's worn out DS phat and gave her my lite. The new screen is nice, but there's no point to the cameras. Unless you're a shutter happy japanese 12 year old, there's no point to that crap. If I didn't have the trade in deal, I'd have returned it for a lite.
- Philbert, on 04/17/2009, -0/+1I can't see why you'd fork over money for it at all.
- inactive, on 04/16/2009, -0/+111. Not buy it and wait for the next DS rehash to come out.
- maduin, on 04/17/2009, -0/+1the DSi has a faster processor and 4x the amount of RAM then the DS and DS Lite, which means an N64 emulator will probably be possible and a more playable SNES emu as well. Bigger screens makes movie watching more pleasant. Of course this is all homebrew/piracy related, but that's why I will soon upgrade from my DS Lite, as soon as these options become available.
- Elranzer, on 04/16/2009, -1/+2AceKard was the first to run on a DSi.
Sorry, R4 fanboys, but the device doesn't work anymore (not to mention firmware updates have stopped since 2007 and it's not SDHC-compatible). - rarimadragon, on 04/16/2009, -0/+1sounds like nintendo is trying to make a quick buck. they shouldve spent more time with features worth buying. im stickin with my DS.
- SpectralSounds, on 04/16/2009, -0/+1I'll wait for the CycloDSi
- ELCad, on 04/17/2009, -0/+1I have a DS phat and I think the DSi cost to much. The screen and speakers are both improved and if it was cheaper I would totally go for it. I hear the browser works a lot better now also but I have not tried that yet. I'm still planning on upgrading, but I think I'll go for a DSlite and keep the extra cash.
- jsmith39, on 04/16/2009, -1/+1Nintendo is offering a $70 trade in value for your DS lite, I do love new toys, but I just can't think of a good reason to upgrade for $100. Why do I care about ***** cameras, and my phone already has better wifi.
Anyone? I'm genuinely curious to know if there is a real reason to upgrade. - Elranzer, on 04/16/2009, -1/+1#9
- gordigor, on 04/16/2009, -1/+1Just curious if the R4DS will work on the DSi. If not, then its a deal breaker.
- armakaryk, on 04/16/2009, -1/+1sooooo heres my suggestion, get a torrent program with a web interface then you can use your dsi to find and download stuff to your home computer from anywhere theres wifi. i'm aware all smartphones and some nicer cellphones can be used too since it's web based, but it feels more magical to go on a game system.
(yes i just bought a dsi today with professor layton so im fawning at the moment.) - kingslion, on 07/01/2009, -0/+0paint it green
- bigmuffpi, on 04/16/2009, -1/+1love all these negative comments.
That said if someone made a cool sound looping app for the DSi, similar to the Korg DS I'd be interested! - UselessTrivia, on 04/16/2009, -2/+2Handhelds have always been a slower-moving market.
I'm fine with it personally. Not changing the system every 3 years actuallys gives developers a chance to make more and better games.
In its first year the PS2 had 51 titles (granted it wasn't a full year)
In 2006 it had around 200 games, and this is based on data from Wikipedia which is missing release years for about 600 titles. Just doing a quick glance and relying on my own memory, most of those games were late comers in the year or so leading up to the PS3 launch.
At the end of a console's life cycle is when all the really interesting games start coming out. Development costs have come way down so developers and publishers can target niche markets and still make a profit.
I hope they keep the DS platform more or less in tact for at least another couple of years. I'm not sure the DSi is going to be a huge hit, but downloadable games is definitely something I'm interested in. Again it opens up the market to wierd niche stuff that otherwise never gets made. - nforum, on 07/20/2009, -0/+0Meh, the DSi isn't to bad, but if you already own a DS then its pointless to waste even more money
