Just as there is a background sound permeating all the universe as a result of the initial instant of the big bang, we can say similarly that there is a spiritual background voice in the world resulting from the giving of the Torah at Sinai.

I have shown how historically "slavery" (really indentured servitude) could legally serve a purpose in a manner that was not inherently immoral. However, it was easily abused and thus it is just to make it illegal. One can argue that it would be just to order prisoners to perform labour in order to make reparation for their crimes. However, this is easily subject to abuse from the wardens. Traditionally, the man has been the head and the woman the heart. Both different roles, both just as equally important. If you cannot see that the injunction on men is just as binding as on the women then it really isn't worth arguing over. This was culturally relevant at the time and described a division of labours between the couple. If the man adheres to his responsibilities he would not do anything without consulting his wife and making her welfare paramount in any decision he makes. It is a complete red herring for people whose sole concern is power and not love. If the woman cannot trust her husband in this way, why would she commit herself to having his children? If the man does not love the woman in this way why would he bind his life and fortune to her? It is absolutely nonsensical.
