I like opinion pieces, but not sure the point or the drive of the article. Apple and Samsung have come to blows in court in every country in the world. Its highly publicised, and even though the advantage of possibly gaining from first mover advantage in country X. I suspect both companies have a net loss. This article has NOTHING to SAY ON THE MATTER.
Then the points out the recent market share loss for HTC, neglecting to mention it grew on Android. Then it mentions less Western known brands ZTE and Huawei making the low to mid android in the developing world!? then saying Sony and LG want Market share...so I guess that covers everyone, wanting Market share, but implies that the low end will eat into the high end, and companies cannot produce high end phones only!? maybe, does it matter.
The the article mentions
1. Google buying Motorola
2. Microsoft Patent Profiteering
3. Amazons Android without Google
These are all major points...but addresses none of them. NONE OF THEM
Then the conclusion wrapped up as advise is develop for Samsung on Phones and Amazon on the Tablet WTF. I think my eyes bled at that point.
I think the author is confused that because user have a diverse choice of brands/devices/inputs from many companies that means pick one phone/os/company to develop for. Its not true. Its not even sane!! Seriously you can write software once for ALL android phones. The Brand on the outside does not matter. Its a little more complicated than that, but not a lot if your a software developer.
