google.com — US wars launched since the attacks of September 11, 2001 have left 225,000 dead and cost up to $4.4 trillion, according to a new study by university researchers.
The study published by Brown University this week focused on the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and counter-terrorism campaigns in Pakistan and Yemen, which came in the wake of the 9/11 attacks on the United States.

shame on everyone who support this war!
charlesdkraussJul 4, 2011
Who currently support it, or who supported it from the beginning?
You can't just stand idly by if someone attacks your country and kills 3000 of your innocent citizens.
Granted, we should have thought a little smarter about going in, but we did need to do something after 9/11.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Connect the dots for me Sparkie, Iraq's participation in 9/11 was?
We've been in Afganistan way to long. We should have bombed the Taliban further back into the stone age, walked away with the admonishment not to do it again or else. And if else came, obliterate the whole f**king lot.
charlesdkraussJul 4, 2011
I think you'd have to blow up a hell of a lot more than just Afghanistan to truly "stop" the terrorists. They exist everywhere. They believe in an idea, and it's pretty damned hard to kill an idea with force.
We need to educate them, all of them. That's the only way, I think.
(Beats having to kill people.)

I'm sure the extremists would love to sit down in an old fashion American classroom for some education. Yep, that'll do the trick. I'm all for educating everyone but sometimes you just need to be realistic.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
charlesdkraussJul 4, 2011
Realistic as in the only method is death and destruction?
I disagree.
There is always a more peaceful way, even if people don't see it, or want to ignore it.
charlesdkraussJul 4, 2011
I shouldn't say always.
There was no amount of diplomacy that could have stopped Hitler.
There are other wars that most definitely would have required conflict to resolve.
I just don't think conflict is the way to resolve terrorism.
archer75Jul 4, 2011
Sometimes violence and show of power are the only things that people understand or respect. Even if it's not our first choice. It would be great of other options existed for all situations and worked at all times.

Wow, you are clueless. Tora bora was such a success.
ncmusicJul 5, 2011
We needed to invade a country that had nothing to do with 9/11?
linageeJul 5, 2011
WHERE THE HECK DO WE SEND THE $4.4 TRILLION DOLLAR INVOICE! Everyone who lives in the middle east? I feel sick enough to vomit.
ka5p3rJul 4, 2011
and now over 225,000 dead and a cost of over $4.4 trillion for viet-nam part 2 and korean war part 3.when will the U.S learn.
linageeJul 5, 2011
They could have paid everyone to surrender and stop fighting for less than $4.4 trillion. I guess money would not go into the hands of private contract killers though...

"shame on everyone who support this war!"
Sorry, we the people had nothing to do with these wars it's the leaders.
Our house and senate does not represent the people of U.S, even in history they never did. They are self serving. We are a Republic not a democracy we have no say when it comes to government decision making. Even if gore became president we would still have gone into Afghanistan and Iraq. If you want accountability, the people by force need to get rid of and create a new government. Or Create a fourth branch government controlled by the people monitoring what the hell the other 3 branches are doing.
avleJul 4, 2011
And the leaders were chosen by? Sorry, but the voters of the us are responsible. Picking Bush twice has resulted in extra debt you will have to pay down over the next decades, unless you go bankrupt. Which is sadly not unrealistic.

What about allegiance to Israel? America dosnt own Israel anything, yet USA take blind eye on all the killings of Palestine and keep on giving Israel all the tech and weapons. Now USA is interfering in Libiya and Somalia. And indirect involvement in Pakistan and N Korea. When you people vote your representative, cant you decide then? Both the President candidates last time vowed to go to any lengths for war on terror including carrying out attacks in sovereign countries and all Americans did was clap hard!

Correction: 225,000 dead and a huge profit of $4.4 trillion to the military industrial complex. Shareholders rejoice!

Yet Fox tells us the debt problem was caused by unions - and gays wanting to marry.
ieatskunkJul 5, 2011
Unions are one principal cause of large, unnecessary spending by the US government. Unions demand inflated wages and grossly inflated benefits, and they get them. We need to reduce the size of the government workforce and reduce the pay and benefits of most of those retained.
I dont know what you are talking about with gay marriage. I think you are just fox bashing.
pier2Jul 5, 2011
Yes, please keep reducing pay and jobs in our consumer driven economy. Concentrate the wealth and cut taxes. That's been working so well for us. We need fewer people with jobs and income. How many loaves of bread and gallons of milk (and TV's, etc.) do you think one wealthy CEO is going to buy with his larger bonus.
ieatskunkJul 5, 2011
The Federal and State governments are overstaffed and most of their staff is overpaid. If your job is paid for by tax payers then your pay and whether your position is even needed should be scrutinized.
The town next door passed their budget a few weeks back and they were patting themselves on the back for cutting three fewer city jobs than originally planned. The paper said those three jobs combined will cost the city, after pay and benefits, around $350,000 for this year. That is just three people for just one year. Multiply that over all of the govt jobs that can be easily replaced with automation or better management. Like it or not this is the financial problem our country is facing.

The figures dont include the 1.3 million Iraqis who died in the Iraq invasion.
StonnaJul 4, 2011
Was this before or after we stopped counting the dead?
Extremly difficult estimite indeed

Add in the costs of our actions in Libya, Yemen and nations yet announced and our young republic is toast shortly.
jjvorsJul 5, 2011
LOL! US launched wars? al-Qaeda declared war on the US in 1997 and attacked US citizens in 2001. This is the natural consequence of their actions.
ieatskunkJul 5, 2011
And how much have inflated public pensions and benefits cost us in the past ten years? How much did assh**es not paying back their mortgages cost us in the past ten years?
The "lives lost" count is bull s**t.
