Guantanamo should be shut down, and the people being detained there need to either face a trial or be released. You can't just grab people and lock them up in a torture facility on a military base indefinitely without due process.

I agree with your sentiment. but, Thanks to the NDAA, that's exactly what they can do.

YEP.... Just like now the US Military is doing 'training' exercises with local police forces.. now this sounds more reasonable considering the volatility of IRAN, but.....

Huh, did hell freeze over? Novenator and I actually agree on something.
In regards to NDAA, you might be interested to know that Washington state legislators have introduced an NDAA nullification bill and joins Virginia and Tennessee considering legislation to nullify NDAA detention provisions.

I don't know if Guantanamo needs to be shut down, but you are absolutely right that those held there should be given their due process. I don't know how anyone can support holding people indefinitely.

"I don't know how anyone can support holding people indefinitely."
Because they declared war against the USA.

How do you know it was them?

How do you know they're guilty if they haven't been given a trial? Thing is, the govt knows that some of them are innocent.

Meanwhile, dozens of innocents still remained detained, because WAR ON TERROR!

Strange set of circumstances indeed - this is obviously a stratagem of a stratagem of a ploy.

Sound like "negotiating with terrorists to me". How about giving them a fair trail and throwing them (if/when found guilty) into a proper prison. They should only release the ones that are not found guiltyby trail.
niceguyvanFeb 1, 2012
God I hope not. The ones who were in the Taliban are the ones who Guantanamo was built for.
