Wait, you can buy drugs online?
Then when tested, they're legit!?!?
Thanks for the heads up BBC!
theveivFeb 6, 2012
I heard Romney bought the Presidency of the United States on TOR.
nurallFeb 6, 2012
with bit coins
theveivFeb 6, 2012
Hah!
FearTheTachikomaFeb 6, 2012
"And it is not just drugs which are available on this online black market. Fake passports, guns - even child pornography."
Drugs: Meh.
Fake passports: Meh.
Illegal Arms sales: Meh.
EVEN CHILD PORN!? FIRE THE NUKES!
*sigh* Modern journos.
whacklyFeb 7, 2012
i'm not apologizing for modern journalism but think what you've just outlined reflects the feelings of the general public. if i met an arms dealer, a drug dealer, a documents forger, and a pedophile I know which one I'd be most eager to put a boot print on.
mbraynardFeb 6, 2012
This is the web. The story should be text and then, as an option, video.
I'm not going to watch a BBC program designed to sensationalize how scary TOR is to a bunch of pensioners.
hardwalkerFeb 6, 2012
TOR
1% anti government folk
1% drug dealers
1% drug buyers
97% child pornographers
triplehelixFeb 7, 2012
first thing i thought of was freenet. i thought tor is more tunneling, where freenet is a completely separate anonymous network.
shwaavayFeb 7, 2012
By virtue of knowing this, there's a 97% change that you are a pedo bear.
prettyboyfloydFeb 7, 2012
Gee, that makes me glad I'm part of the 1%!
langfordFeb 6, 2012
The whole internet will need to do this, in order to protect free speech from internet censorship.
captswuitsFeb 6, 2012
Wait, its not ok to be anonymous?
MegaMayneFeb 7, 2012
I downloaded that Tor program and within 10 minutes...I'll just say I've seen some pretty sick s**t. Human-beings are so f**ked up. Now I can't sleep.

I go to the "Dark Web" all the time, I just lower the brightness on my monitor. Get Er Done

Ah, the underbelly.
Works great for ascertaining certain scientific information of a more arcane nature. Unfortunately, it's also great if you need to buy a fat white baby for a blood sacrifice, or score a couple of pounds of meth or join a club of gay men looking to spread AIDS.
Honestly - normal people should stay the f**k off the Darknets.
whacklyFeb 7, 2012
there is a club of gay men who purposely spread aids? was that just a sort of homophobic attempt at the worst thing you could think of or is that a real thing that's actually happening on tor?
Closed AccountFeb 7, 2012
This is a VERY controversial subject, but yeah, it's real - though I have no idea how wide spread it is, or was when I came across it. All I know is what I saw, and it was f**king insane.

And since my feelings about gay men are called into question (fair enough): I have many gay friends (I used to work in fashion) and I love or hate them depending on their actions and personalities and not based on some broken moralism that says there's something wrong with two men or two women having a sexual relationship or a marriage.
I feel VERY strongly about natural rights and specifically, the right to be sexually free from coercion and discrimination. And I think that anyone who wishes for substantial change in America would champion these natural rights whenever they are called into question. I wish humans to feel better about themselves so we can end years of sexual repression in America due to our Puritan past, and move past these cycles of abuse.
Accepting the natural reality of homosexuality as a benign fact is an important part of this transition.
whacklyFeb 7, 2012
thank you for the answer. what an odd new subject to ponder.

Maybe IE did you a favor? Please consider another browser.
prettyboyfloydFeb 7, 2012
Use this one: https://www.torproject.org/download/download-easy.html.en
breadfredFeb 6, 2012
That is a BBC website. If your browser does not support it; I'd like to know when you last updated your browser. What version are you running? ie6?
prettyboyfloydFeb 7, 2012
Interesting how the report doesn't specifically mention TOR, but just describes how the network relays traffic through all the nodes running the software. Somehow, the reporter thinks that getting a Bitcoin client running is a prerequisite for using Tor! Of course, he doesn't mention any of the other "darknets" out there (i2p, wireless mesh, etc.), but perhaps that's covered in the "Full Report"on BBC 5 that was supposed to have aired last Sunday.
markwikFeb 7, 2012
darkweb..more like dorkweb
tehnoobifierFeb 7, 2012
The BBC is a bit late to the party, the story about Tor and Silk Road broke out months ago
