Kansas should up it's speed limit to like 120mph
Kansas: Proudly being the most direct route from Colorado to Missouri since 1827.
biscuitalmightyJan 29, 2012
Indiana proudly calls itself the Crossroads of America. There are no destinations, just intersections leading you anywhere else.
emfkJan 28, 2012
Wave high to people like me that live in areas that are *GASP* 55 mph. You remember what that is like, right? :-)
x86bsdJan 29, 2012
I didn't until I moved to this dump called Wisconsin! s**ttiest road design ever. And EVERYWHERE is 55mph! Its insane! Takes half an hour to drive 10 minutes because everyone is going so damn slow. Im from Kansas where its mostly 65 or 70. Just goes to show how arbitrary, stupid and retarded speed limits are. Especially on turnpikes.
protocol1Jan 29, 2012
half an hour to drive 10 minutes. talk about temporal displacement.
;-)

Wow I must have been sleepy. Or was I...? Dun.. dun.. dun! :)

Why Not 80 or 90 Out In The Desert Western Part Of Texas?
bille3Jan 28, 2012
Or like it used to be in parts of Nevada where there was no limit.
Besides there are so many people act like there is no limit, I guess they see the sign as the posted minimum speed.
craig1958Jan 28, 2012
I believe there are some sections with an 80mph limit in west TX.
norman619Jan 28, 2012
When I drove through that part of Texas I averaged about that. I don't know what the law is in Texas but I know in California you can legally drive above the speed limit as long as it is safe to do so.
breadfredJan 28, 2012
Apologize my ignorance; but why do you have a speed limit if it is not a speed limit?
norman619Jan 28, 2012
Speed limits apply under "normal" road conditions when there are other cars on the road or when it's not safe to go faster like when it's raining or visibility is low.
bobcat7407Jan 29, 2012
Here's a little more about the California law:
http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Can_you_legally_drive_above_the_posted_speed_limit_in_California
norman619Jan 29, 2012
I lived in Cali. I beat speeding tickets with the defense that my speed was safe for the conditions of the road. NEVER had to pay a speeding ticket. I always beat them even though I was busted going well over the posted peed limit.
bobcat7407Jan 29, 2012
That's pretty interesting. It sounded crazy to me so that's why I looked into it, I guess that's one reason it's good to know the laws in your state. I'm kind of surprised someone buried me though.
thoughtsonthisJan 28, 2012
I wish our highways would go to 75 miles an hour, but I image as soon as one state starts it, others will follow.
southsideirishJan 28, 2012
Not really I think. I bet if you allow this you will lose you Federal road funding like NH does for their lack of a seatbelt and helmet law. Not many states are willing to give up tax dollars.
kingfootJan 29, 2012
Washington will NEVER do this..
anomaly100Jan 28, 2012
I think I can recall when it was 70 or 75.
assassyn360Jan 29, 2012
At 70 mph, I drove 75-80. At 75' I will drive 80-85.
10000lakesJan 29, 2012
Wohoo! Now Minnesota needs to be next!
termousadkaJan 28, 2012
with todays cars 85 MPH is a comfortable cruising speed and you can still get decent mileage. I average 28.5 MPG at 80 MPH in my 2.0T VW CC.
whatever01Jan 29, 2012
What do you get if you average 65?
brucealmightyJan 29, 2012
Social Security!
bille3Jan 30, 2012
LOL
kingfootJan 29, 2012
It's not about mileage.. it's about safety. 85mph with other cars around is just ridiculous. 75, sure. not 80, or 85.
Cruise control doesn't work below 25mph. It should also be capped at 55/60 I think. That way if you go faster, you HAVE to keep your foot on the pedal. At those speeds, letting the car go constant without you controlling it, is way too dangerous.
cyndicalhounfineartJan 28, 2012
I once had a physicist come talk at my high school in Colorado arguing against raising the speed limit. I never forgot his pleas: it would use more gas, more oil and have more severe accidents should they happen. It's the anti-green law.
luke1h7Jan 28, 2012
yea but it's the pro fun law. I love speeding!
assassyn360Jan 29, 2012
Yes sir!
brucealmightyJan 29, 2012
It's all relative. If safety was our paramount concern then we would all be walking instead of driving....and wouldn't even think about getting on an airplane. Measuring safety and lives against efficiency and convenience is not something anyone enjoys doing but it is a necessity of modern life.
pivenJan 28, 2012
Good start.
plimptonisbackJan 29, 2012
These comments suck.
ka5p3rJan 29, 2012
so now the can drive faster than they think.
brsox2445Jan 29, 2012
Good. The speed limit should be higher on many of these roads. In Virginia, we have some of our interstate system that recently moved up to 70mph. I would really like to see the speeds go up to 75 or even 85mph.
However, I am also an advocate of stricter road tests to get a driver's license. I think in all states that get a certain level of snow should require their citizens to take a snow driving portion of their test. Not advocating the federal government to make them, just the states to do it themselves.

remember kiddies..all throttle, no bottle.

For a minute I thought Texas upped the speed limit to 1500MPH...
walker12bobJan 29, 2012
In some parts of Texas, the speed limit was 80 mph two years ago.

In Idaho most of the interstates outside of cities are already 75 mph.
Through Boise it's 65.
chinachrisJan 29, 2012
An extra 5mph...I'll take it.
motozeroJan 28, 2012
Population control, jk .. In Hawaii it don't go over 60, lol! There is no need though but you can sure tell a mainlander when there is a straight away,,, trying to gun it to 80 for the next red light, lol Speeding in slow traffic does cause many accidents here. Drinking and driving causes the most everywhere though, that is the real problem, not speed.
specimen7Jan 29, 2012
You should see some of the drivers in Philadelphia. They will go on pavements to dodge traffic jams, intentionally cause gridlock, and routinely push 144 kph on 95. Nutbags.
The motorcyclists are even worse. Speeding though the lane gaps, smashing mirrors, and texting at the same time. It's like a WW3 on the roads here.
I've heard that canned spam is the favorite Hawaiian dish. Any truth to this?
If not - blame the food network and travel channel.
waitasecJan 29, 2012
First off, if you're looking at the kph section of your speedometer while in Philadelphia, you're doing it wrong.
jaketyson85Jan 28, 2012
all two of the people in texas that dont ride horses can drive faster now. im happy for them, even if they are the most ignorant redneck state other than missippi.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

You are talking about the 2nd highest populated state in the US.
Texas university academic research has received the Nobel prize, Pulitzer prize, Wolf Prize, National medal of science award.
Where is your Nobel peace prize? What contributions to science have you given to the world? You're just a racist troll casting stereotypes on an entire state. Use your brain before you call 26 million people a racist and hateful stereotype like "redneck" - bitch.
jaketyson85Jan 29, 2012
why you being a racist to me cuz of my skin color?
balzorJan 29, 2012
no, because you're an idiot
