Another reason why the west (mainly the US) shouldn't leave Afghanistan prematurely. For the sake of Afghan women and children, we need to win this thing. Thanks America
alanocuOct 13, 2010
Great comment. I agree with you wholeheartedly.
macaddictrOct 13, 2010
Using this as an argument for war is illogical. Humanitarian efforts throughout the world are helping improve the lives of women in situations just like this. I am not saying there are not other reasons for being if Afghanistan. I am saying that if you want the US to go to war flying the banner of "free women from oppression". You had better get our your checkbook because we are going to be invading a lot of countries.
hipmanOct 13, 2010
It was a light-hearted comment.Get a grip.
tfongOct 13, 2010
You realize that women's rights and saving people is hardly the reason why the US would go in there right? The US isn't doing this because they feel a kinship or they want to save these people. There are political and economic ramifications and benefits to the invasion. One such importance is insertion of a US puppet government in order to give them influence in the middle east in an attempt to reduce the influence of OPEC.
There are millions of suffering people in Africa, China and various other places but you don't see the US Army invading each place do you? Think about it for a sec. This isn't done out of the goodness of their hearts, the Chair of Joint Chiefs (ruling organization for the US Armed forces) is not controlled nor influenced by your average American citizen. Do some research before you go about doing your flag waving please.

You're correct about people suffering elsewhere in the world, but we're not doing it because of OPEC. That's simply kindergarten level conspiracy theory. If you'll do even a tiny amount of research you'll learn that even though OPEC attempts to control oil pricing, there are so many countries colluding that they are still in price competition because they still want to get a slight leg up in competition. OPEC is too big to be an oligopoly, so the free market is working even if many of the member countries don't want it to.
I personally think it's because daddy Bush went to the middle east and left quickly, so sonny Bush decided he needed to go back and finish a job that's tactically impossible.
tfongOct 14, 2010
Well to put in OPEC as it's name is the simplest you can get for your average news watcher to understand that it is much more complicated than "Because we feel we are doing the right thing" attitude. No question there are many factors into the invasion and human rights is pretty much bottom of the barrel. Though it does look good on press releases though to say that was the intention. Oil will be and has always been one of the key factors for middle east intervention though.
captaincumshotOct 14, 2010
I personally think that we invaded Afghanistan because they attacked us. All the rest of this is just a benefit. We can get some humanitarianism in the country, making us not look like war-mongering blood-thirsty demons, we can help control oil prices a fraction of a percentage more, we have slightly stronger diplomacy in middle-eastern Islam nations, a tactical vantage point for insertion in time of war, and eventually obtain more native-language speaking soldiers if we need to.
9/11 just set everything in motion, and while we're driving our enemy out of their homeland, why not take advantage of making a few friends along the way?
tyg10Oct 13, 2010
Bless her heart....such brutality is beyond me. It's evil, plain and simply, evil. And thanks to the doctor who operated on her!!
bobosmitorOct 13, 2010
Poor soul really suffered.
I wish her the best and hope she never has to see the Taliban again.
veduvaruOct 13, 2010
every where women and children is touched. this is not only in Afghanistan
diggeradoOct 14, 2010
But it is in muslim countries and cultures more than most. It's what Mohammed did after all.

God bless this beautiful girl......Good people are always blessed by god, and god always punish bad people, one day god will surely make him suffer.
whokilledfleaOct 13, 2010
i fudging hate it when these minor celebs get a little fame and a little money and waste in on needless cosmetic surgery
neotechniOct 13, 2010
She wasnt a celebrity. She was mutilated. Hence the NEED for the surgery. You could use some to pull that stick out of your ass
m4fia117Oct 14, 2010
this needs to be submitted. Right there. That's awesome.
ssbarOct 13, 2010
Compassion and empathy is the proper response here. With Thanksgiving around the corner it reminds me to be thankful for the one thing I often take for granted...my freedom.
tfongOct 13, 2010
I think what you are feeling is sympathy since unless you have had your nose chopped off, you can't really feel empathy...
ptfoeOct 14, 2010
lol thanks giving my ass, steal from the Native Indians, thanks give-me
everfresh59Oct 13, 2010
f**k you Taliban Bitches!!
chett12Oct 13, 2010
Beyond compassion, beyond gratuity, beyond suffering - let this be a reminder of the vast need for a large perspective and paradigm shift to be created in order to raise the consciousness of humanity. It is time, that women and men, be treated equally - for a better world is greatly needed, which involves both feminine and masculine strengths in order to be created.
biergutlolOct 13, 2010
It's not only about equality. It's also about not selling children and about not f**king slicing peoples faces apart. They could just start cutting boys aswell and have equality.
chett12Oct 13, 2010
That's where the need for a higher level of consciousness comes into place. Of course, and I'd be so bold to say that obviously people should not be selling children and "f***ing slicing peoples faces apart". Women, especially in the Eastern countries, are far more oppressed than men. So when I say equality, I mean in terms of Eastern countries treating both men and women equally. But again, it is obvious that this is a far more complicated issue and can't be solved at a press of a button.
Closed AccountOct 14, 2010
I think the press of a button would actually solve all of the issues.
vigrocoOct 13, 2010
But I thought the Taliban only oppressed women as a means to protect them.
Closed AccountOct 14, 2010
they are protecting her from herself, duh./s
itwasonlyajokeOct 13, 2010
It's a mess in Afghanistan, but at least the women are moving towards some sense of freedom. The Taliban is an EVIL entity, and anyone that denies it is brainwashed and/or ignorant.
neotechniOct 13, 2010
It's more the religion of islam in general than just the taliban. The religion teaches that this kind of crap is ok.
alwayzzcitraOct 14, 2010
I'm a Muslim, and it's never ever okay to hurt others. I live in Indonesia, and this thing never happens here. I'm also a female but I have good life, good job and couldn't ask for more.
It's Taliban's fault, not the religion.
reposadoOct 14, 2010
Didnt Indonesians killed a large number of Chinese a number of years back in their country?
diggeradoOct 14, 2010
You don't seem to understand your religion very well. No worries. Most people don't or they probably wouldn't be religious.
alwayzzcitraOct 15, 2010
Reposado, since when Indonesia invade China? lol
diggerado, I am religious, and I understand my religion very well. It's never okay to talk bad about others, let alone killing or mutilated them.
You sound ignorant.
diggeradoOct 18, 2010
Oh? So though your religion considers Mohammed the perfect man while he was an abuser of young women and an intensely violent man, that doesn't mean you should be like him? How exactly do you rationalize that particular flaw in your belief-system?
diggeradoOct 14, 2010

I don't know if this is a ploy by just the government or the government and the feminists but I find it offensive. To me, that cover says, "We need American men to die so that women 6,000 miles away don't get hurt. I find that despicable and misandrist.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
melektawusOct 14, 2010
It's an ancient tradition to get people geared up for war by talking about how horrible the enemy is to women, men have an instinctual desire to protect females that will overcome a lot of logic. During WWI there was tons of propaganda saying that the Germans were raping nuns and such to appeal to American hearts and get them in the war.
soberkebapOct 14, 2010
I'm not even kidding, but doesn't she sorta look sexier without the nose? At least in that TIME cover she does.
Weird.
playerkill1337Oct 14, 2010
/agreed i thought she looked hotter also in that pic...
minus the nose thing err what ever
diggeradoOct 14, 2010
f**k the taliban and anyone who agrees with them.
kyzzyxxOct 14, 2010
You call yourselves 'humane' but still support Capital Punishment in your country? How disgustingly stupid! f**k off!
twinklyjesusOct 15, 2010
Um, yeah. Two totally different issues. With Capital Punishment, you don't mutilate someone and leave them to bleed to death, after being convicted of a Capital Crime by a court and jury of their peers. This is an arbitrary act of vengeance and cruelty.
Go back to goat-f**king or whatever you do in your country, assh**e
kyzzyxxOct 15, 2010
So is Capital Punishment, you f**king tool! Learn how the brain works (if you have the mental capability, which, at this point is doubtful) and you will learn how you're Capital Punishment (the ENDING of a life as opposed to pathetic mutilation.. how you think CP is 'better' is just f**king insane) is far more cruel. But then, I don't expect you to see that cause you choose to be brainwashed by your limited education.
And as far as 'Go back to goat-f**king or whatever you do in your country, assh**e', guess what, I am in the US. I just consider myself part of the human race and not the sick ass gangs (nations) that you choose to play with. Go ahead, let yourself continue to be divided by those that wish to keep you that way. Again. Tool! Dumbass, pathetic, disgusting, s**t-for-brains, TOOL!
twinklyjesusOct 15, 2010
It's Michael Jackson's old nose!
