youtube.com— Those living along Nigeria's coastline said on Monday that officials are not doing enough to clean up last month's deep sea oil spil...

Corporations have little incentive to obey the law because people rarely go to jail for corporate malfeasance.
Microsoft paid $2 billion in fines for a decade of operating in open violation of EU trade laws. To the corporation, such legal fees are just another business expense aking to advertising and marketing.
Gotta love the heartlessness of some of the "people" on Digg. "Oh Africa is a bunch of scammers!" Really? EVERY single person in Africa scams? I think not...there are also natural resources there that doesn't need to be destroyed, like animals or plants and whatnot.
How about Shell oil fix their s**t? Some of you "Americans" want this kind of s**t running through AMERICA and they can't even get it right in Africa.
Regardless of *what* comes out of Nigeria as a country, be it scammers or even pirates, there are still people there. People. Regardless of what someone has done, or whatever country someone is from, they at least deserve clean water.
Messes like this need to be addressed, and companies like Shell need to be held accountable on all fronts. It's getting to be ridiculous: We're letting companies rape the planet and, when things go bad, they get off without any responsibility. That needs to change.
that hole of human waste can sink into the ocean and the world would be better off for it.
and before you go 'oh you're soo insenstive'. no, africa is insensitive. africa's history speaks more bad for it than it does good. it is one of the most violent places on the planet with backwards culture and there's been huge efforts for centuries to help them, but people act like no one has ever done anything for africa because they don't f**king know history. 'oh it's about time they helped africa', no it's not...africa has been helped time and time again. it's a cycle that repeats itself. if you know any history about africa, you'd know that africa's issues haven't always existed as they do today. when it was under english rule decades ago, it was prosperous.
I would..and have...but it's not my coast line now it is.
and why did the US cost line get flooded with oil? Yes, BP and its affiliates are largely to blame. but guess who gave BP the ok to drill for oil in the gulf months prior to the horizon spill? OBAMA. all after the strict reservations and warnings of others.
although obama supporters will dismiss this entirely (despite highly credible sources and direct correlation), when if it had been bush, they'd be saying exactly what I am instead.
There are 100,000 old capped leaker wells all over the gulf, we have been drilling there for 100 years.
Of course the president is going to approve drilling if the companies use the legal permit systems.
How can it be the presidents fault when it's revealed the deepwater drilling company did not really have a safety plan, copy pasted from old reports and they did not finish capping the well properly.
anyway 100 years of oil drilling in the gulf and those gulf states are STILL the poorest states, crap schools with the worse infastructure in America.
I think if the president didn't demand BP pay and live video we would be in a worse state.
still the gulf is ruined, the shrimp industry will never come back. now there is an infestation of asian tiger shrimp probably from ship bilge dumped...that will destroy the entire native fish population.
The president is damned if he does and damned if he doesn't.
It's like those that hate the president pray for disasters and terror attacks so they can tar the president some more.
These corporation doing this s**t are the sharp thorns in America's back, destroying the image of America! Is this what this country is all about! Lies, deceit and the greed for resources and money without any retribution!
Africa's going to become the next Exxon Valdez dumping ground for oil companies and other corporation alike rushing into Africa to reap its cheap resources, while not giving two s**ts about laws, rules, regulations! Africa is already becoming the stirring pot for quick cheap resources for countries around the globe, while getting pushed aside with pollution, corruption and murderous turmoil. Prepare, because Africa could be the grounds for WW3! Everyone wants its cheap resources!
I love when people deny publicly accessible information. It is really very funny. We live in an age where is a camera pointed at everything. Every last thing. You don't get to pretend things don't exist anymore. You just sound like a spoiled brat, honestly. Maybe your yes men that your surround yourself with think it is oh so very clever and believable when you deny the obvious, but the rest of the world thinks you sound like a small child.

Maybe when Nigeria cleans up it's pirating, scamming, extorting activities, then i'll give a damn about what happens to Nigerians.
stuffradioJan 3, 2012
You don't care about sea life just so you can feel like they're getting justice or payback in Nigeria? Nice...
melthornalJan 3, 2012
Name one country that doesn't have government backed scamming and extorting.
certaprohocomdJan 4, 2012
Feel sorry for the people who are affected with oil spill.
johnomazzJan 3, 2012
They should ask all their nigerian princes to help with money to clean it up.
