FTA: "Nashville magistrate Tom Nelson has said recently that there's no legal reason in his city to keep the demonstrators behind bars and he has released them after each arrest. He has refused each night to sign off on arrest warrants for more than two dozen people taken into custody."
Gov. Bill Haslam sends troopers to arrest them, Nelson actually reads the law and states that he "finds no authority anywhere for anyone to authorize a curfew anywhere on Legislative Plaza." Kudos to Nelson

Thank you guys for standing up for us. Our rights are disappearing quickly.

The stormtroopers of the corporate regime are intensifying their brutal crackdown on this people's uprising. Remember folks, we're fighting for YOUR rights. Join us. Get off the couch and stop by.

Your smelly leftist zombies seem to be antagonizing the police to incite violence. At the Denver rally they were kicking over police motorcycles.
The poor OWS people at the start had a real grievance, but they turned to the wrong side to help them- the side that caused the problems in the first place. Now they are only a tool for your leftist masters, and all the leftist masters know what to do with tools is to get them beat up for sympathy photos.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

"At the Denver rally they were kicking over police motorcycles."
JFC on a popsickle stick you cons are dumb. I've posted video evidence, for f**ks sake YOU'VE even posted a youtube link that proves that did not happen. You can see a guy give a little push to the back of a motorcycle (which was not cool), but the cop then dumps his own bike to take off after the guy. This happened ONCE, and the poor guy got the s**t beat out of him for it (bloody face with chunks of skin hanging off of it).
This just goes to show that the defenders of Wall Street (Fox "News" fans usually) have absolutely no conscience or ability to recognize reality, and why you will lose.

We all saw this in, "Fight Club"! That was the day you let yourselves get into a fight and let yourself lose! But remember losing is learning! Remember the loop...

One of the saddest aspects of these protests is that they are also costing cities significant money for extra police protection, cleanup, jail food, etc.
This is city money which has to be taken from other services to the public that the city would have been able to provide, so the protesters are hurting themselves and all the rest of the citizens in their city.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Your statement reminds me of a sign I saw at the #Occupy movement. It read:
'We're trying to change the world...sorry for the inconvenience'
I thought it quite fitting.
anomaly100Oct 30, 2011
I love that sign.
superkendallOct 30, 2011
If they were actually trying to change the world, it might be funny.
Since all they are REALLY trying to do is re-elect Democrats - where is the change? Why are they not LIVID at the bank/big business bailouts that the Democrats started and seek to continue?
Why they are they not to a man/woman angrily protesting the giant bail-out of insurance industries, Obamacare, be repealed? Oh I guess THAT giant business they are OK with! Alright then. But don't expect me to support you at that point when you don't seem to want to change anything, not really.
Until they start really pointing out the source of the problems they complain about, all they are is really smelly campers who picked a very bad spot.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

That's right!!! Unless they protest the in the same narrow viewpoint I have, they're gross hippy campers who aren't trying to change the world.
Protest MY way!!!
cdw070Oct 30, 2011
Yes, protest by obeying the law like the tea partiers did.
Now hard working citizens are going to spend even more tax dollars cleaning up after your filthy selves.

And with shotguns, racist signs, and mouths full of spit for black congress members! Right?...
New plan to take over the world: Pay a lobbyist to persuade Congress to pass a new law that anybody who wants to voice their opinion must go through a series of 317 steps to do so...now I got those dirty hippies!...it's LAW now!!! MUA HA HA HA!!! Oh, and ban the color purple...I hate that color...

This is crap about how they are costing cities significant money.
From another article:
AlterNet reported last week, the New York City Police Department has already spent more than $3.4 million on overtime hours as a result of the Occupy Wall Street protests. Over the same span of time, the NYPD has arrested around 1,000 people associated with the movement.
To put these numbers in perspective, 1,806 arrests resulted from the four-day Republic National Convention in New York City in 2004. The total security cost, according to a report by ABC News "was $80 million, which included overtime for NYPD officers." While the federal government picked up the lion's share of the costs, the mayor's office reported that the city ended up paying about $8 million of the tab.
The $3.4 million on overtime spent as a result of OWS is, however, a mere drop in the bucket when it comes to police overtime. According to statistics from the nonpartisan Independent Budget Office, in fiscal year 2011, which ended on June 30, NYPD overtime was nearly $550 million. This includes millions of dollars spent on annual "planned events" and other non-emergencies including the Thanksgiving Day Parade ($192,763), Yankees/Red Sox games ($410,948 for games last August and September), and the New York City marathon ($2.3 million).
I sure don't see you complaining about the "waste" to the NY Taxpayer over the cost for Police OT for the Yankees/Red Sox and NYC marathon...
magnumxOct 30, 2011
Well done, sir. I applaud the fact based smack-down of that narrative and wish you many Internets!
cdw070Oct 31, 2011
So costing taxpayers an extra $3.4 million which was not budgeted and unplanned for is okay with you? Unbelievable.
You guys get to tear up the city, and everyone else has to pay for it. Thanks a lot, jerk.
What is so hard about obeying the law? We had hundreds of tea party protests over 3 years with less than a dozen arrests total nationwide and with narry an incident. Why can't you thugs express your minds peacefully like the tea party crowd?Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

The First Amendment (Amendment I) to the United States Constitution is part of the Bill of Rights. The amendment prohibits the making of any law respecting an establishment of religion, impeding the free exercise of religion, abridging the freedom of speech, infringing on the freedom of the press, interfering with the right to peaceably assemble or prohibiting the petitioning for a governmental redress of grievances.

Get use to it.
cdw070Oct 31, 2011
OMG. You are so ignorant of the law it isn't' funny.
The 1st Amendment does NOT give you the right to break city ordinances however you see fit. Yet that is what you do, hence the why police overtime is required, hence why you cost taxpayers millions of extra dollars.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Events like the RNC, sporting events, T-Giving parade are attractions to the city. People come, they spend money and stimulate the economy. It brings attention to the city and results in more people visiting, spending money later. It doesn't take an economist to realize this.
OWS brings all of the bad and none of the good. The only way the city makes money off these guys is to tax weed. They are a nuisance and a dangerous one at that.
joepaternoOct 31, 2011
So whoever is digging this down, please explain to me why the comparison is NOT complete bulls**t. If you can't, then you are just trying to stifle the truth which I thought is what you guys are all about... Don't be a hypocrite.
purrsuedeNov 1, 2011
Maybe it has something to do with your line "they are a nuisance and a dangerous one"?
My original comment was relating that the Police already have a HUGE budget for overtime, and of course, examples are published, but I think it illustrates what a drop in the bucket the amount being spent really is, instead of the absurd argument over "look how much overtime the protesters are costing the police". Ridiculous, frankly...
What's important is showing the AMOUNTS being spent, not for the event itself...
And then you start throwing out comments calling people hypocrites... you think you can say things like that and people will just cast rose petals at your feet? C'mon, man....

And while we're on the topic of "costing cities significant money for extra police protection..."
If history is any guide, New York City is also likely to spend millions more settling lawsuits as a result of the NYPD's heavy-handed tactics -- from a pepper-spray attack on young women to mass arrests -- toward nonviolent Occupy Wall Street protesters.
Following the 2004 convention, more than 90 percent of the RNC arrest cases were dismissed or ended with not-guilty verdicts, resulting in a raft of litigation against the city. To date, according to a report earlier this year by Thomson-Reuters, "152 plaintiffs have settled, withdrawn or dismissed their suits, and the city has spent $1.8 million on settlements, according to the New York City Law Department. Cases are still pending for an additional 474 plaintiffs." As many as 1,400 individuals each still stand to receive thousands or tens of thousands of dollars in damages as a result of a class-action law suit.

Wow, so you are actually advocating breaking the law. I hope you spend a long time in jail for your crimes.
purrsuedeOct 31, 2011
Where on earth did you get that? I'm simply reporting the facts of the situation, but I see your own personal opinion doesn't rely on anything factual....
purrsuedeOct 31, 2011
And as far as "breaking the law" goes, the article states: "Following the 2004 convention, more than 90 percent of the RNC arrest cases were dismissed or ended with not-guilty verdicts"
An arrest being dismissed or ending with not-guilty verdicts certainly is NOT "breaking the law". The police do NOT decide the law, the judicial system does so.
Perhaps you should try to pay attention...
elj0h0Oct 31, 2011
Fantastic researching and reporting purrsuede. I gotta say most won't back up their arguments, they just spout nonsensical crap (see above). But here you are being truthful and matter-of-fact. Even cited your sources! Funny how that never seems to happen when neocons post.
Also, when the police arrest someone without cause the POLICE are committing a CRIME. Unless they are holding a WARRANT or have witnessed the alleged crime themselves they can't arrest you. Therefore, cdw is apparently supporting crime by supporting the police who are breaking the law by arresting the peaceful protesters.
Check out that Constitution and Bill of Rights sometime cdw, it might make you think before you speak.
Or it might make you think the founding fathers were dirty commies...
cdw070Oct 31, 2011
Yeah, let me know when you can prove the police arrested someone without probable cause.
You people provoked them. Period. How many Tea Party people were arrested over the last three years? Less than a dozen. How many occupy thugs have been arrested. Hundreds in several different cities.
If anything, the cops would be more likely to arrest us right wingers cause we hate their unions, but that hasn't proven to be the case.
We can protest peacefully. You people don't know how to get permits and follow basic instructions and laws. In short, you suck, and more importantly, you lose.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

"Thugs"
Drink!!!
"We can protest peacefully."
Yes, with weapons and "we came unarmed THIS TIME" posters, tree of liberty threats, etc.
I'm really getting a sense of what kind of human being you are with all this "you people", "thugs" and "us" bulls**t...
deweyusaOct 31, 2011
"more importantly, you lose."
THAT, as you Rethuglicans say, is the "rub". It's not about OUR country. It's not about change for the US. It's about YOU winning and everyone else LOSING. Let's have a quick lesson in democracy, shall we Mr. Thuglican?
When more than 50% agree, IT'S THE WAY IT IS. Last I checked, more than 99% believed in free speech and the Bill of Rights.
And, sometimes, when you make an omelet, you have to break some eggs. So by your own definition, that means the Tea Party is a bunch of wimps for not having the guts to stand up for what they believe in enough to put their asses on the line and get themselves arrested. Coward.
elj0h0Oct 31, 2011
I think the lawsuits purrsuede mentioned speak for themselves. I wasn't directly speaking about the OWS protestors, just law in general. But since you asked, note the words of the Nashville magistrate: FTA "Tom Nelson has said recently that there's no legal reason in his city to keep the demonstrators behind bars and he has released them after each arrest"
