She can be sentenced to death for it. Shiva’s trial date is set for September 4, 2010. We must act now to help and support her. Petition to release Shiva Nazar Ahari: http://www.gopetition.com/petition/38483.html
superkendallSep 6, 2010
You think a petition will do anything at all?
When the world failed to support the Green Revolution back when they were actually in the midst of a revolution, I sadly realized they were all screwed. If all you will do in support is sign petitions you may as well do nothing at all; the result is the same for the people of Iran.
I don't know what to do at this point honestly since invasion is really out of the question, but at the time when you had a lot of upset people even voicing support then by all the leaders of the nations may have given them courage to take the final step and take over.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

we have to attract media attention, that's what we can do right now............ government tries to ban any information release by filtering mass media in Iran, so we have to bring down the curtain, showing people all over the world what's happening there, at Iran
superkendallSep 6, 2010
Iran had a ton of media attention before during the Green riots; it mattered not at all because the people had no support, and the leaders of Iran don't give a fig what the rest of the world thinks of them which is why they freely decided to maim/torture/kill protestors. What has changed? Sorry, but she is going to die for supporting a revolution the people could not finish, just as countless others have throughout history. I hate it, but I am not going to do something just to make myself feel better about the whole situation. I am only going to support something that can have a real impact.
Iran shows us clearly how powerless media and the forces of the internet are against a group that is really determined.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
cloudyskyySep 6, 2010
so let's watch her hanging and be relax not to waste your time superkendall............... you know what? it is not fair you have no choice to choose how your motherland country should be, but it is shame when you see humanity is just prestigious
superkendallSep 7, 2010
You pat yourself on your back and pretend you've actually done something. How is this self-delusion, to make yourself feel good as she is beaten to death with rocks, not worse than doing nothing? At the end of the day she will be dead but you will say "well at least I did something" - when you didn't, not really. You will feel OK when you shouldn't, I will be the one facing the grim reality head on.
The time for action was during the actual revolution. Where were you then? I was spreading tweets, I was seeing how I could help. I was writing congress urging support. DId you do that much? What you propose now is too little, too late. All you CAN do about it, is to figure out what to do next time when it matters.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Go ahead, bury me and hide your shame.
itwasonlyajokeSep 7, 2010
Well... you have good points, but what is wrong with starting a petition? That's all we *can* do at this point, right? I don't see you suggesting anything else.
shagerdakSep 7, 2010
The problem is people like you don't understand the meaning of the concept of "reform" or "progressive revolution" if you wish to call it that way. We have experienced a revolution 31 years ago and to this day, we're paying for that mistake. And the Iranian people, despite what you might think, would not make the same mistake again; as if they wanted to do so, they had done it during the past year. The Green Movement is a peaceful and civil movement and is not even comparable with blind and violent things called "revolution".
LemurLordSep 7, 2010
I had to upvote you. You speak the truth. Just thought you'd like to know that you're not the only one who thinks like that, rock on.
dk75eclipseSep 6, 2010
superkendall is right. If you're familiar with the Iranian government at all, you'll know that not only would a petition be wasted effort, but it would also put at risk any Iranians who sign it.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
superkendallSep 7, 2010
Exactly, it serves no point now - all it can do is get people in trouble that might be able to start the core of a real revolution.

you would think an all powerful - all knowing god could fight his own battles
goodbickSep 6, 2010
Yep, I'm sure whacked out iranian officials base their decisions on the amount of signatures an internet petition gets.

Religion is their excuse. They really are not looking out for Allah's interests, religion is how they justify what they do. Its an old story - the government gets the people behind some philosophy to rally public support. Hitler did it with Atheism - encouraging Germans to support genocide on the grounds that it would speed up evolution. Governments like to hijack whatever the people believe.
Bad government is the true enemy.

Good luck, I hope someday your people can actually be free. But with the way the world is today, it will have to come from within - it's plain the world governments are turning their back on you, and it may be many years before they think to help you again. Best to hold out and start building a base for change.
iamiraniSep 7, 2010
You're right. We are doing our best and thinking of more creative ways to overcome this cruel regime. However, sometimes we need a little support from the outside.
Thank you.
Closed AccountSep 6, 2010
Hmmmmm invoking religion to justify horrible things.......this regime shares a lot in common with the American right wing.
How much blood will have to be spilt before people realize that religion IS the problem? Imagine if people couldn't be so easily swayed and manipulated. I mean f**k, governments and those in power have been using religion to control people for thousands of years, and yet people still sling to it. The madness of the human race ispersonified in religion.
This woman is an exemplary human being and she deserves the worlds support.
superkendallSep 7, 2010
Right, because the "American Right Wing" is sentencing people to death over religion instead of arguing merely we should be a moral people. Oh wait.
You are disgusting, cheapening the real tribulations Iranians are going through by your comparison.
bookantSep 7, 2010
"Right, because the "American Right Wing" is sentencing people to death over religion . . ."
George Tiller wanted me to remind you that the American Right Wing are doing exactly that. And it would be much more widespread and institutionalized, as it is in Iran, if they had the power to make it so . . . .

Waging war against God? Well good, when he's so backward and bigoted and obviously just a tool for serving the interests of an oppressive patriarchy then someone's got to.

Attention to detail people:
"Her husband, Reza Khandan, said Sotoudeh was recently warned by Iranian intelligence officials that she would be arrested if she continued to represent Shirin Ebadi, the Iranian Nobel Peace prize laureate and human rights activist who left Iran a day before the election"
I think we all understand, as do the people for many years, Iran is not the United States. They had a revolution and maintain the stance they have not to be just that up to now.
The fact she was warned should had been enough for her to think twice.
Now, you can say "But how can you limit someones freedom?" Well, then leave the country and voice your concern as others have done.
It's not like Iran was ever like the United States in it's history and to think you can act like it was today is wrong and shouldn't be looked at as such.
People shouldn't look at their countries and think everyone is the same. They never were and are never going to be.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
