This IS what the Golden Globes needs. Otherwise it is just 3 hours of boredom. The actors/actresses just read their lines from the prompter to present the awards. They really aren't getting paid for it so they really don't try to make it fun. Ricky was trying to keep viewers watching.
Did he succeed? He might have went over the top a few times, but most all the acceptance speeches are really low points of the show. If it isn't your name in the list of 20 people they thank, then do you really care? Why do you think they give out prizes for having the shortest speech? Or start playing house music over your speech to let you know you need to wrap it up.

They hired Ricky Gervais to present the awards - wtf did they expect!?
budbrainJan 17, 2011
And personally, I didn't find any of the quoted jokes offensive - I thought they were great.
Hello_KittieJan 17, 2011
I completely agree with you on that!
hughdicksonJan 18, 2011
Same here; totally agree! Plus, I thought they were actually quite tame.
skintoonJan 17, 2011
exactly and he was really funny. Usually celebs would just go with it.
nabor605Jan 17, 2011
ugh, well at least Ricky Gervais had No Agenda during his speeches In the Morning.
jaimequinJan 17, 2011
That was awesome! Now I wish I had actually watched the Golden Globes.
quadeJan 17, 2011
Oh man, Ricky killed.
debdiego03Jan 17, 2011
People are just wayyy too sensitive these days. Why can't we laugh at ourselves anymore?
congneliusJan 17, 2011
It's Hollywood. Celebs have people so far up their asses 24/7 that they forget they're human too. It's called losing touch with reality.

adambomb5060Jan 17, 2011
I don't think the author understands the phrase "foot in his mouth"
quadeJan 17, 2011
I hope by the end of the day, someone has posted only the Ricky Gervais parts of the Golden Globes, without all the crappy award nonsense.

awesome, thanks for the link! :)
nabor605Jan 17, 2011
Wait a minute, this is the 2010 Golden Globes! sad face...
themachine1Jan 18, 2011
Oh sorry :(
nabor605Jan 18, 2011
hey, no problem. It was still funny anyway :)
melanierobertseJan 17, 2011
I'd really like to watch the Golden Globes, but I missed it. Will it re-air?
dannyhirtlerJan 17, 2011
I loved Funny or Die's tweet about it "Damn, Ricky Gervais must carry his balls around in a wheelbarrow"
jakeorhodesJan 17, 2011
RG knows who his real friends are so he doesn't feel the need to brown nose to a group of spoiled, overpaid actors and actresses that are treated like royalty. Good for him.
ammoman23Jan 17, 2011
Good for him.
Oh, no! Did someone point out the celebrities' love for drugs and girls 55 years too young? How rude of him to actually point his finger at the ridiculous spectacle that is our beloved Hollywood.
bokitoJan 17, 2011
That was great. RG ftw.
Hello_KittieJan 17, 2011
Philip Berk took Ricky's jokes very seriously "Ricky, next time you want me to help you qualify your movie, go to another guy." Evidently being rich & famous takes away your ability to find humor.
thelucasJan 17, 2011
Hahaha, who the f*ck is Phillip Berk anyway? Oh wait, isn't that the guy from the Hollywood Foreign Press currently facing a lawsuit for corruption and taking kickbacks?
Hello_KittieJan 17, 2011
Touche sir!!
fygeeJan 17, 2011
It was basically half awards show, half roast.
In other words, it was actually entertaining to watch.
All of the Hollywood people who were offended knew what to expect with him as host, and really need to get over themselves. I really hope they bring him back as host next year.
josephthedonJan 17, 2011
Good. Glad someone did.
runwithscissorsJan 17, 2011
Was this article a complete joke?
'Gervais struggled to respond. "Probably," he said. "My lawyers helped me with the wording of that joke."'
Struggled? Gervais nailed it, and somehow this writer is still on the outside of the joke. Gervais makes his living making fun of the self indulgent, self congratulatory nature of celebrity life and characters that think more of themselves than they should. How he keeps getting invited is the only thing that perplexes me. It means that someone with decision making power gets it, and we all join together at the expense of the pampered egos of celebrities.
shaunywJan 17, 2011
Funny but very tame. You want controversy? Get Frankie Boyle up there, lets see what happens to the fragile egos of Hollywoods finest then.
bertbarndoorJan 17, 2011
Ricky Gervais did an excellent job. A bruised ego on a celebrity is an unattractive thing.
smurf42Jan 17, 2011
So hypocritical... Robert Downey Jr calls his stuff 'mean spirited and sinister' then goes on to say he has to sleep with actresses to see how good they are and then proceeds to make sexual innuendos about 5 actresses.
Get over it, the presenter disses the actors every single time, this was not much different.
lycao25Jan 18, 2011
Is anyone really surprised. That people who get paid millions, to "work" for a month or two, and have their ego's stroked constantly. Thinking them self's gods among men. Started crying when someone dared to not completely kiss their ass?
nickdbJan 18, 2011
Here's a hint to everyone Ricky offended, don't do stupid stuff and you won't get ripped off for it.
puppyadayJan 23, 2011
I didn't think Ricky went over the edge. It was funny.
