This is what we should do to BP, and Goldman Sachs, and all those corrupt f**ks who think they can get away with making the poor, the elderly, and the disabled pay for their crimes against humanity.
mrteflonJul 23, 2011
Wouldn't that be wonderful.. A law like this for the United States would straighten everyone in the corporate world out in a hurry.
user500Jul 23, 2011
Shame they don't bring laws like that to the states.
shadabsoniaJul 23, 2011
One has to give death penalty for these kind of work, which gives message to others.
kupotekJul 23, 2011
They're not listening.
myztryJul 23, 2011
While I don't believe in the death penalty, corrupt officials under the employ of Governments should all be found guilty of treason for undermining the interests of the Government and the citizens who the represent..
Treason does tend to be something that carries the death penalty though.
southsideirishJul 23, 2011
Do you know what treason means? A crime yes, but not treason.
myztryJul 23, 2011
Wikipedia (yes, I know) starts with fairly good statement regarding the spirit of the term - "treason is the crime that covers some of the more serious acts of betrayal of one's sovereign or nation."
In my opinion, corruption should fall within the scope to recognise the seriousness of the act.
southsideirishJul 23, 2011
You can't read, or you are an idiot!
...[a]...citizen's actions to help a foreign government overthrow, make war against, or seriously injure the [parent nation].
What foreign government did they help?
The Constitution defines it as
Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court.
The Congress shall have Power to declare the Punishment of Treason, but no Attainder of Treason shall work Corruption of Blood, or Forfeiture except during the Life of the Person attainted.
So, how did they level war?
What you want to do is unconstitutional and not legal and not going to happen.
etrnldrkJul 23, 2011
Well, we now owe China a lot of money. How would it not be treason? What happens if we can't pay that money back?
southsideirishJul 23, 2011
LoL! This has nothing to with China. To me it is war, but war between the banks and all countries. G. Sachs and the World Bank are taking over Greece, and Portugal, then Spain, Ireland, and eventually the US and the rest of the E.U.
China isn't safe either, since they will bankrupt.
This is about big banks trying to foreclose on the entire world,
johnnysoftwareJul 23, 2011
Hey, if they are some expat working for an international or the company is based in another country, it is pretty obvious what foreign country they have hurt and that it came at the expense of the US.
The Pentagon just said computer hacking is an act of war. The last administration said that an act of terrorism by a small group is an act of war, and "if you are not with us, then you're against us".
War is a wild card term now that can take on a number of meanings to make the rest of the cards in your hand be whatever hand is close to what you want it to be.
War seems to have devolved to mean simply: something that harms/scares a lot of people and/or costs a nation's economy a ton of money. Check against recent uses of the term and you will see I am correct.
myztryJul 24, 2011
The entities that fund the corruption (local) tend to be international/multinational (ie. foreign) and acts of war take many forms (economic, espionage, terrorism, etc.)
I'm not even saying that corruption is what is traditionally defined as treason despite it potentially being harmful to the state on behalf of foreign interests who may in turn represent the interest of a foreign state.
Corruption is clearly rampant in the US. Not at all helped by providing corruption brokering facilities through "lobbyist" facilities which are open to all bar the constituents.
jacquelynekJul 23, 2011
If they gave sentences like that here.. half of Wall Street would be dead already and good riddance too.
berkanaJul 23, 2011
Wow, $1.15 billion in bribes? Those are some greased palms! What was his regular salary?
martin92003Jul 23, 2011
Maybe we should try that in the USA...
johnnysoftwareJul 23, 2011
Hey, we had a number of people who are part of a certain oil company get caught doing corruption of US regulators.

I'm curious what the method of execution is in a progressive, business-oriented country like China. We import all their goods, even the toxic ones. Maybe we should import some of their anti-corruption methods.
I guess if people get a death sentence for corruption, that will act as a formidable deterrent. A lot of executive decisions in recent history have killed more innocent people than some whack job killer armed with an assault rifle. The did it for greed and ultimately for their own pleasure/satisfaction, which is what most serial killers and mass murders kill for as well. They just kill more than those amateurs.
rclearymakegudwaifuJul 23, 2011
We need a system like this in the states.
basilmckeonJul 23, 2011
Let's take a lesson here and extend punishment for cronyism to the US. Colin Powell, you've got it coming, man.
johnnysoftwareJul 24, 2011
He got his info from someone else in the administration. He didn't go out and pick up the 'Curveball' intel (lies) himself. If you are mad at him, be upset with the person who passed off the yarns spun by a chronic pathological liar as fact. Read up on Curveball at LATimes or ABC news.
woollymittensJul 23, 2011
So they picked this scapegoat to cover up the greater corruption across all levels of the Chinese police state. It doesn't solve the problem, nor was that the intention, I bet.
vogelshockJul 24, 2011
Okay, going to chime in for sanity's sake and say that we shouldn't kill people for stealing money -- even vast sums of money. Execution for theft is a pretty radical idea.

My god...why are so many duplicates coming up to FP and the top 10 so much this last week?

Lets see how long Microsoft's search exec stays posted there.
