"Last year, a man who said he was the victim of an American paedophile priest launched a suit against the Pope and the Vatican in a US federal court.""
Horrible about the sex abuse is how many hundreds(thousands) of children were victims. I hope they can group-up together.
The problem is many of the victims are adults now, and still so damaged by the abuse they can hardly speak about it without crying.
We have entire small towns of native americans, one in particular in remote alaska...where EVERY single child was raped/abused by the installed priest and his assistant. Thats over 80 children in one small community.
Their must be thousands of 'damaged' persons and the church never seems to care about their souls...only if they speak about it will they get money.
Why won't the church reach out and really help the victims by rejecting the abusers publicly.
The church knows all the small missions where the abusers abused all the children...why won't the church do something FIRST. They know many of the abused will never speak about it.

If they're guilty, let's hope they rot in jail. And by rot I mean raped.

something tells me the proof just isn't there or at least in the hands of the people going after the vatican. i would like to see that everyone that did something like that gets put behind bars for years.

I have a sad feeling nothing much will come of this.

Part of me hopes they win, and part of me hopes they don't.
If they win, it would be another crack in the armor of religion. However, it could also be an opportunity for Islam (a far more oppressive and f**ked up religion) to gain a foothold.
The decline in Catholicism leaves a power vacuum which Islam could exploit. While I'd prefer no religion at all, I'd rather have a few isolated cases of child abuse than the s**t that goes on in the Middle East....Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Every part of me hopes they win, as far as "Islam [being] a far more oppressive...religion" that is only because it is allowed to infiltrate the schools. There is nothing more inherent to Islam that doesnt exist in Christianity or Catholicism. Both actually tell believers to kill the "infidels" (yes they use that word). But we have booted it out of public education system so it cant corrupt all of our youths the way Islam has been able to in Middle Eastern countries.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

i don't believe that if they win it would affect the way catholics view catholicism. Just as abuse reports within Islam don't necessarily affect the way Muslims view Islam. Just as abuse reports within atheism don't necessarily affect atheists views about atheism.

Islam by the very way they teach..an old man standing over young children seperated by sexes.
Many times hitting them if they don't 'read' properly. Live-in groups of small children...a position of power over children..
.I bet the numbers of thousands of abused children is just as high with muslims as with christians.
Perhaps even more pervs for muslim children because a christian parent can refuse to leave their children alone at sunday school. A muslim parent can NOT refuse to leave their child alone..it is required of them or they will be accused of being bad parents.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

There might be a power vacuum, but my money is on
Buddhism or Hinduism. Of course, with the Judaism,
there is the whole "12 days of gifts", which might be
more tempting to youngsters, where I think that people
in the 20's to 30's might head towards Buddhism,
and some might try out Hinduism.
Of course, with Islam, you might have a bunch of people
people who try it, because paranoid right wingers say
"evil evil evil!", so people join it, to be rebellious,

But where will all the pedophiles go? /s
laurahoustonJun 2, 2011
the pedophiles are still after their 'target' age group. Perhaps in your 'sunday school' abusing the 9/10/ year olds, leaving a mark on their souls the rest of their lives.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

The problem is there are pedophiles in every single Facet of the world from religion to school to activities to work etc etc etc. The Catholic church is not the only area for this type of behavior.
I am Catholic and I think the leaders should defrock and put forth for jail anyone Proven to have done this with no coverups.
Also remember the sad truth is there are probably a ton of fakes out there jumping on the bandwagon for the cash also..
Just my 2@

agree, the church has to turn them over to authorities. and kick them out of the church.
we know now the way pervs have their age group to abuse and the way the kids don't tell anyone for several years.
The legal system has to work with that and refrain from calling everyone a 'fake'. Every child in a perv-priests group was at risk, very few 'fakes' can fake a location of their childhood years.

I love the pedophiles giving down votes. I never knew Digg had such a following. I wish it was possible to see the down voters. Its good to know who is sick in the head.

The church must make the records public.

" Twenty eight Jesuit priests accused of sexual abuse were sent to remote villages in Alaska where they lived, unmonitored, and continued to abuse victims for decades""
""I believe Alaska became the ideal place for perpetrators, because of the isolation," she said "And the way the Native people were looked upon as being 'ignorant.'"
Alfonsus Abouchek is one of 43 Alaska natives who claim Jesuit priests sexually abused them between the 1950s and the 1990s. He said a priest assaulted him numerous times.
"(In) exchange for like 50 cents 75 cents, because my family was very very poor at the time," he said. "I tried to commit suicide over this a number of times in the 80s, then I turned to alcohol and drugs to kill the pain."
""Operating in impoverished hamlets far from police agencies and reachable only by small aircraft, dog sleds and in some cases boats, and in a diocese where the bishop also was a Jesuit, those priests were the ultimate local authority, Roosa said.
"It was a pedophile's paradise," he said.
"We all knew but we all kept quiet because we were just so threatened," said victim Rena Abouchek, who said six of her cousins committed suicide as youngsters after being abused.
Rena Abouchuk fought back tears as she read a letter to Smario, who Roosa said now lives in Concord, Calif., accusing him of touching her and other girls "in ways that I will never forget" and of other abuse starting when she was 7 in 1975.""

The fact of the matter is the Catholic Church is guilty of conspiring to prevent the public from knowing the extent that the Catholic Church protects and encourages peepee touchers to wear the collar.
Basically the most recent report from the Catholic Church blames the sexual revolution of the real cause for the rampant peepee touchers wearing a collar. And it also stresses that the final say on reporting perverts in a collar resides on the Bishop. There is no direct order that any priest who anally rapes a child should be sent immediately to the police. And thats the problem. There is no change for the Catholic Church, its business as usual.
No amount of money litigated from the Church will keep the church from forgiving pedophiles and moving them to a new church to destroy peoples lives. I'm frankly disgusted by the Catholic Church at this point and I hope that a number of countries will say enough is enough and give this ultimatum to the Vatican:
"Zero tolerance. Any priests who rapes children will be immediately turned over to the authorities as will all evidence. Any member of the church found with holding evidence should face excommunication. If the Church doesn't agree to it, it is banned from the country and all property and wealth is turned over to the state.".
If that statement was issued to the Church by a number of large nations, I can guarantee you the Catholic Church would finally fix the problem.
