When is the last time you heard the Pope condemning these priests performing these rituals? He knows about it. Everyone who wants to know about it does. It even happens in London.

It is more about smaller cults, also within main religions. Not all of them are named differently, but have very different ways of living than e.g. in neighbouring countries. One can not e.g. directly compare afgan village "muslim" to urban turkish "muslim", it is like comparing ultra orthodox west bank "the hell with all the others" jew to some moderate guy in New York. Admittedly, there are more local political power in the hands of extreme muslims than others, but it is the political power of extreme christians and jews that actually I find as dangerous, if not more (they have their power in more powerful countries, and are as disconnected from reality with their dooms day visions).

Yes, this is a terrible situation. It's very hard to figure out what to do with these people. At one level we have to live on the same planet with them, and have to let them have the same culture. At the same time they are barely out of 10th century era, and many have the sensibilities of cave men.
It's a very complicated world. WTF do you do with them? How do you "explain" that this is not acceptable behavior? Even some people that emigrate to England, and live in a civilized society still commit "honor killings".
While similar type of bulls**t occurs in the west (child prostitution, etc.) at least it is not mainstream. The question here is how to bring across to the population that this is not acceptable behavior, and how to convince the victims that they can go to the western authorities for help.

What a truly horrific situation for this girl to find herself in. There but for the grace of the goddess goes I. I hope she finds some peace now and I believe that now is the time for change. Having read most religious texts I have never come accross one line that states it is ok to mutilate, they profess love, forgiveness and respect. These warped ideas about religion are just that, true believers of every faith have a relationship with the deity they worship but do not commit atrocities in their name.

That would require some foresight / prediction of what God does. By definition, one does not know / cannot know the will of God. Hence, one cannot know whether asking for a blessing from said entity is beneficial, detrimental, or neutral.

The difference might be that Christian countries are only Christian in name. And none of the bad guys actually belief the s**t they say. They use religion as a means to an end.
The reason Muslim countries come out so bad therefore, must be sought in a different direction. In the West we had an industrial revolution, and not to forget 2 world wars. In the Middle East, where they are still living among tribal traditions and lifestyles, they have had not time to adapt to the open and free communication.

I dont want to claim that i know everything about Islam, the religion and its principles or 'rules' but when i see and hear about this, one cannot wonder what on earth is going on through these peoples minds when they commit these actions?! I mean basic human treatment has just been thrown out the window here for me, and if it is 'for money', this is NOT the way to fix problems - by sending a 15 year old for prostitution. If not for money, then for what else? Self-gratification? Whatever problems in-laws had, they will have twice or three-fold as justice should prevail...
