news.yahoo.com — The United Nations said that groups seeking to deliver aid to Gaza should do so by land. Following reports on a new flotilla from Lebanon, Israel has made it clear this is an unnecessary provocation and that preventing such a flotilla is the responsibility of the Lebanese government. All aid can be delivered via land routes.

Did the UN take a balanced position? I need to have my coffee and re-read when I'm fully awake. Welcome news!
tralobyteJul 25, 2010
There are different branches of the UN. The UN security council takes balanced positions, while the UN human rights council is basically an anti-Israel campaign (see http://www.un.org/News/ossg/).
ethanleducJul 25, 2010
"the UN human rights council is basically an anti-Israel campaign"
As they well ought to be. Building settlements on conquered land is a clear violation of international law, and the foundation of much of the trouble in the Palestinian territories. The Israeli government can't expect to be considered righteous while they enforce the ongoing commission of a crime with military force.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Israel owns the title deed to that entire region. It's called the Old Testament. The ones that should be critiqued are Egypt, Syria, and the other Arab nations in the area who have started several wars against Israel and lost each time. Anyway, a nation that gets land as a result of self-defense is entitled to keep it.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

@ DavidNiven
Holy crap did you really just say that? The Old Testament is a RELIGIOUS book that has very little factual basis. even if it was legitimate notice how the Old Testament says the Jews invaded Israel and conquered it from previous residents.

"The UN security council takes balanced positions"
Really? It seems to me that the security council consistently takes the positions which protect the interests of it's permanent members. With each of these members wielding veto power no resolution ever gets passed which would compromise the economic interests of any one member, which allows genocide to continue unchecked. How can you say that? Are you telling these countries don't know about human rights abuses?

Israel has every right to protect itself. However, one day it will have to take responsibility for its own actions. It will have to stop blaming everything on the Palestinians, comparing them to terrorists, and forcing them to live in squalor. It will have to stop blaming Hamas for everything Israel does (that's the oldest trick in the book--blame the enemy for your horrible deeds--Hamas does the exact same thing when they blame Israel for the s**t they do). Israel does not own the Palestinian people. It may protect itself by any means because it is a sovereign nation, but the very notion that the rest of the world should not be upset and should wholeheartedly support Israel while they treat the Palestinians like garbage is ridiculous.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

You are getting Dugg down by the brainwashed pro-Israeli idiots. Most people with a brain don't support Hamas or the rocket attacks on Israel, but we also don't support the theft of land and settlement building by Israeli's either.

The UN a balanced positio? I doubt it. They are considering a name change to the AIUN: The Anti-Israel United Nations

"There are established routes for supplies to enter by land. That is the way aid should be delivered to the people of Gaza," UN spokesman Martin Nesirky told a press briefing."
Well said.

magic6435Jul 25, 2010
Aid for the people of Gaza should be delivered anyway it can and should not be up to Israel.

Then send them real weapons and that s**t will stop pretty quick.

But... But... think on the media. They will loose millions if there are no more blocked aid flotillas. No one is interested in aid successfully arriving to Palestinians by land.

What's this "we" s**t? Hamas fought the Berlin blockade? I thought the US did that. The Russians were trying to keep terrorists from getting weapons to attack Russia with? Are you comparing Soviet imperialism to Israel defending herself from Arab terrorists?
Were people in Berlin taking hostile action toward Russia on a daily basis, firing rockets at civilian targets from neighborhoods, churches and schools?
Are you admitting to being part of the terror organizations that are attacking Israel?
Or, did your pretzel logic inadvertently express some sentiment you didn't intend?

The Western powers fought an illegal, unconscionable blockade. They can do it again.
twinklyjesusJul 25, 2010
The "Western" powers support this blockade. Are you sure you're on the right planet? Did you go to sleep in the Bizarro Universe and wake up here?
beratebirthersJul 26, 2010
@twinkly: Not all of them. Some supported the flotilla.
For example, a quick glance shows the United Nations, Turkey, the entire Arab league nations, the entire African Union nations, the Organization of American States, Cuba, Bangladesh, India, China, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, North Korea, Pakistan, Australia, New Zealand and most of the EU. Also a number of Jewish organizations as well.

Yes, there is no need to try to break the blockade, inmates... hahem I mean residents, are now allowed to eat chocolate by the benevolent Israelis. "Learn to get along or go back to Europe."
How does this s**t get dugg up? Jews in Israel came--for the ones not already there--from around the world, including significant numbers from Arab countries who used the creation of Israel as an excuse to purge themselves of Jews.
Though people here are loathe to admit it, there comes a point when anti-Israeli becomes anti-Semitic. But then digging me down is easier than confronting your ignorance, right?

This whole issue about the flotilla is very strikingly similar to the story of the Jewish ship Exodus and how it was attacked by the British when it reaches Palestine shores. A bvery interesting article with videos are available here:

I think you're not taking this seriously enough, so let me help you out with some background...
<tinfoil>
A4 is short for ISO-216 A4, but that standard is copied from DIN A4. DIN being "Deutsches Industitut fuer Normung". DIN A4 was introduced in 1922, and it became ubiquitous within a very short time. The documents laying out the plans for the Endloesung ("Final Solution"), i.e. the holocause of the Jews, were certainly written on A4 paper. Thus, A4 paper is clearly evil.
