The internet is a powerful tool for democracy. Even the idiots have a chance to be heard, as evidenced by the comments above mine.

Pharaoh Ramses VIII is up for re-election

While this may be a victory for democracy (rulers chosen by the people) to some extent, it may not mean the victory for progressive values (freedom of speech, press and religion) that many Westerners who trumpet new communications technology desire. Support for the Muslim Brotherhood is enormous among the Egyptian masses, and the only thing holding the country back from an Iran-style takeover by fundamentalists is Mubarak.

Stupid title...

I am an Egyptian, and I feel really sorry for my home country and I wish I can see the day when Mubarak & his whole family burn in hell.

Egypt does love the internet. Every single town has at least one nice lab (not so much cafe) where you can sit down and surf and have a really nice guy give you some tech support. His name is usually Rada.

If the brotherhood comes to power in Egypt, there might be another war with Israel.

Breaking news: internet changes the world. Details at 11.

As an Egyptian, I can't help but chuckle considering how backwards most of us are with technology.

I was in a hotel in Egypt and wanted to check my emails. I spent nearly an hour trying to, but it just kept timing out. I demanded my money back but they argued that I'd been on it for an hour.. I spent half an hour arguing over 50 cents, just for the principle :-/
I didn't get the money back.
