'SOUND's like BS to me.
jaymulderAug 15, 2010
How would you know? You been there?
magestykAug 15, 2010
I've been there TWICE and once in IRAQ.
It's all BS, our guys are dying for f**king Politician LIES!
tsk05Aug 15, 2010
What were you doing there?
Closed AccountAug 15, 2010
And I appreciate your service and dedication to service from the bottom of my heart. It's not any different from Vietnam except for the flag waving. Wait until the thousands of Iraq and Afghanistan vets need long term care from the VA. Forty years from now, the tune will be, "you're not missing any limbs so you are not qualified."
magestykAug 16, 2010
@TSK05 - 11B and then 15G.
@mobling - Thanks but I dont need it. Our boys and girls still there fighting, or that fought, bled and died do deserve that and MORE. Specially their families.
megajoe67Aug 16, 2010
Why has this taken over twice as long as WW2?
marx2kAug 16, 2010
Because we're fighting an abstract idea and not actual enemies.
ramilehtiAug 16, 2010
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Low_intensity_warfare
It is low intensity so that it will not arouse any serious resistance back home. So it will continue far longer and be more lucrative and have more serious impact than an intensive conflict that will end soon.
brucealmightyAug 15, 2010
What else would you expect him to say about the strategy he played a large part in developing and promoting?
fullbackAug 15, 2010
Getting stuck in quicksand is a sound strategy.
decoy26517Aug 15, 2010
Yep, so Barry kicked out a perfectly good decorated general just because he disagreed with him. No one questions Barry, NO ONE!

"Remember: loyalty to the party among all else."
Sounds like the Republican MO.
decoy26517Aug 16, 2010
I never mentioned anything about which party.
wiseguy1020Aug 16, 2010
@decoy26517
As soon as you called the President "Barry" you labeled yourself.

Who is Barry?
decoy26517Aug 16, 2010
It's the U.S.A. president. AKA Obama.
hewhopoopsAug 16, 2010
It's what idiots call the president.
theswashbucklerAug 16, 2010
Reagan's 11th commandment: Thou shalt not speak ill of any fellow Republican.
hewhopoopsAug 16, 2010
Apparently you've never been in the military? You lose certain rights, namely the right to speak out publicly against the president.
itwasonlyajokeAug 15, 2010
The war strategy is 'SOUND'. The distant booms of IEDs exploding are also 'SOUND'.
diggamyteAug 15, 2010
Sure, it's 'sound' if the objective is to stay there for decades.
nepidaeAug 15, 2010
Well during wartime the military's power is greatly increased, so it makes sense.
jrskblx125Aug 15, 2010

End the American Empire. Bring every single soldier we have anywhere in the world back home today.
blklightningAug 15, 2010
that's just dumb. we need our overseas bases in order to display the power of our military to the world.

So this is just a pissing contest?
People are DYING because of that insecure, macho line of thinking.
f**k you and everyone like you.
blklightningAug 16, 2010
people are dying in germany, italy, and japan? really? that is incredible news to me. and judging by the negative digg count of my post, there are at least four others out there that agree with you in thinking we only occupy afghanistan and iraq.
i hate uneducated people. f**k them and everyone like them. Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Dude, grow up. We've invaded countless countries to "display the power of our military" and each time people have died just so assh**es like you can feel more masculine, or whatever the f**k your problem is. It's kind of sad that you have to put words in my mouth because you can't face that reality.
blklightningAug 16, 2010
horses**t. that is f**king little kid fantasy logic right there. sorry, kid, but the world isn't coated in marshmallows and chocolate pudding. war has and will continue to happen until our species is killed off. but you keep living in your fantasy world where talking it out makes everything alright.
countess666Aug 16, 2010
you need to get of oil before that's even possible.
otherwise you'd be ending the economy along with the 'empire'.
buckrogers1965Aug 16, 2010
We get most of our oil from Canada.
countess666Aug 16, 2010
but not nearly enough.

And our goal is.....?
tgc1Aug 15, 2010

ramilehtiAug 16, 2010
... to bolster the bottom line of war profiteers.
leftamiAug 15, 2010
metastasize? Really??
ryanw430Aug 15, 2010
We've spent $1,065 BILLION on the war on terror thus far. Afghanistan's economy only produces $27 billion annually! That means, at an interest rate of only 2.7% on US bonds, the interest we will be paying for this war alone as tax payers will be more than the entire economy of Afghanistan! We could have saved $1 trillion in principal on the national debt and we could have given every worker in Afghanistan a good enough pension for them to retire immediately for the cost we will be paying in interest alone for this war!!!
That is how ridiculous this war really is. And we're still racking up billions every month...

But but but...Iran has nukes!!! /s
I've lost track of everything I'm supposed to be afraid of.
ryanw430Aug 15, 2010
This would have been my solution as President after 9/11. If someone was from Afghanistan and if they passed a psychological test and agreed to be monitored by almost constant video surveillance they could have come to the US and worked fast food for $1.00 an hour 60 hours a week for an annual salary of $3,360 plus free room and board in the back of the restaurant along with free food. That way, we'd save enough money with economies-of-scale to drop the grilled stuft burrito and the big mac into the dollar menu, they'd be kept in check from making bombs, they'd be happier making much more money and they'd become Americanized, and I wouldn't have to go as deep into debt for grad school as an economics major cuz I would have almost free meals everyday thanks to our new buddies. And all the illegal Mexicans here would have to leave cuz they'd be out of work. Problem solved.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
think4yourselffAug 15, 2010
I laughed...but it's not funny to joke about something as serious as eating fast food.

$1,065 Trillion. Not billion.
Although that's not even close to covering all of our defense related costs.
shapedyAug 16, 2010
No. A thousand billion is a trillion. What you're suggesting is over a quadrillion. That is a ridiculously unfathomable amount of money.
I'm assuming you're not from somewhere where commas and periods are switched in math because you're saying "our" costs.
Closed AccountAug 16, 2010
Oh, piss, you're right. And I do use commas/periods the American way so I don't know what I was thinking. Calling it billion was what threw me off.
knunez100Aug 15, 2010
Ah, so now they codename "failure" as "sound"? Interesting.

Of course the general is going to say it is sound because the president says it is all going on schedule - a schedule that is full known to the enemy. theonekenAug 16, 2010
Deaths and violence increased in Iraq during the first few months of COIN strategy as well. They will come back down. Be patient.
tsothaAug 16, 2010
Correct. I'm starting to think people on digg are thick. Casualties are absolutely not an indication you are losing - they're an indication the war is being decided. We could have kept casualties at previous levels by doing what we had been doing - digging in.
Now we're taking the fight to the enemy, so we're gonna lose more people in the short term. But like Iraq, if it's done right it will result in a pacified country.
boozedrinkerAug 16, 2010
Like the war or not, he's privy to a s**tLOAD more information than any of us are, so saying that he's full of s**t is kind of ignorant.
rsm33Aug 16, 2010
What else is he going to say?
"Holy s**t we are so f**ked. Nothing we do ever works!"
I 100% that this strategy or any other strategy anyone else on planet earth can come up with will NEVER work in a place like Afghanistan.
We never learn.
poochyfudAug 16, 2010
I didn't know Digg had so many military geniuses
/also sick of being in Afghanistan
thenazzAug 16, 2010
That is exactly the type of bulls**t I'd expect from General "Betray us". Somebody should teach military history to the good General so that he can see for himself how history reports the number of empires who attempted to occupy and nation build in Afghanistan. The USSR had more money and manpower invested in Afghanistan for 11 years and got nowhere but bankrupt... The US is following perfectly in their footsteps.
How did a guy so ignorant on Afghanistan history end up in charge? Oh yes, General 'Betray us' already proved his loyalty to the White House by saying that the 'surge' worked when history already proves what a failure it was.
twobluedayAug 17, 2010
I get it. Start an idiotic war, never articulate a goal or mission, kill thousands of people who have never done you the slightest harm, spend money until your country is bankrupt, but have a "sound" strategy. Got it.
