It's hard to say if a little Chinese ruthlessness will help solve some of these problem spots, or just make them worse.

Will help 'solve' some of the problems domestically where they have an iron grip, more or less.
If they try the heavy-hand approach abroad in the overseas interests (mining/oil ops, etc) it will worsen sympathy of natives and the local governments.
