Yahoo blew it a decade ago, and then a second time when they turned down Microsoft. They won't last much longer.

They are still the market leader in MANY of their offerings. Well ahead of Google in those areas (mail, IM, news, etc.) and they show no signs of falling in those areas.
They aren't going anywhere. There will be a story on Yahoo news about how Digg closed down for good, not the other way around.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Irrelevant. They have money to survive. And as long as they ARE on top in so many areas, they are not going anywhere any time soon as julie ignorantly claims.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

in what areas? please tell me, because i am dying to know.

are you confusing "number of users who don't pay for anything" with "ability to produce income from their users who don't pay for anything"?
what is yahoo the market leader of exactly? you say there are MANY examples, so can you provide a few?

Well, actually Google more recently offered to buy them: Microsoft interfered and got the federal government to block the merger. Now, look what happened.
Don't blame Yahoo or Google for this. Yahoo was agreeing to the Google merger. Microsoft was the party that was against the merger that would have saved Yahoo.

Yahoo? never heard of 'em.

Lol? Seriously?

Yahoo needs better PR professionals, if they did they wouldn't be having such a big problem.

Google is a fast growing company. It's great that they are giving work to people.
unknownmeiJan 26, 2011
how can you compare Yahoo and Google?! Google is like way ahead of 'em
mheykJan 26, 2011
Give it time Google will have its time in the sun everything comes 360 as with facebook everything goes in cycles.

Considering Yahoo! and Google are about three freeway exits away from each other (Mathilda to Shoreline), is it really hard to figure out why as one company lays people off, the other is hiring more people?
Google has always hired as many people as they can to make sure _other companies_ aren't able to hire available talent.

This is why Microsoft's blocking of the Google-Yahoo merger was so disingenous and self-serving. Allowing Google to buy Yahoo would have helped web users because Yahoo services like Yahoo's delicious.com would likely have been funded. Now, they are headed for the chopping block despite being useful and well-liked. Deprived of Google's funding, Yahoo was forced to turn to - of course - Microsoft. Microsoft's funding is a slow blood letting for Yahoo, which is forced to lay off workers.
johnnysoftwareJan 26, 2011
Has there been all that much hiring of laid off Yahoo workers by Google?
charlesmiller0Jan 26, 2011
I feel sorry for yahoo considering Google is under Yahoo before and now en up like bankrupt. Well that's business, you must know how to beat competitors.

Kinda sad to see Yahoo falling apart. Sure hope they get it together soon before it's too late for them

I sure hope Google adds quite a lot of CUSTOMER SERVICE reps especially in regards to their Adwords program... which is absolutely HORRIBLE right now.
