Wi-Fi Hotspots, Only Going to Get Hotter

gigaom.com — The number of Wi-Fi hotspot connections is expected to explode to 11 billion sessions by 2014, up from 2 billion this year as mobile devices proliferate, according to research firm In-Stat. This growth in Wi-Fi sessions, which has largely contributed to the rise of public Wi-Fi zones, will easily outpace the number of available Wi-Fi hotspot venues, even as cellular operators continue to try offloading traffic from their networks. Yeah, but what they dont tell you about wifi hotspots is that most of them are encrypted.

Must learn how to crack into wifi someday!

Has anyone tried the DIY $10 wifi antenna or other such projects? Mine was the 0$ wifi antenna. They work and what you really nead (most of you) is a HIROSE connector and wire out of a old busted laptop, 30 ft. of coax, 20ft of 12 or 14 ga. wire, styrofoam, cardboard tube, tools and soldering iron.

are WiFi Hotspot operators protected in the same way that ISPs are protected via Safe Harbor rules, as in if someone connects to the hotspot and pirates something via it, is the hotspot operator responsible? they ARE providing internet services after all.
