I think they beat out Google+ in traffic. Pinterest is doing a pretty good job of referring to retailers too. They gon make some money, yup.

The UI of Pinterest is what makes it different, fun and interesting. it appears that a lot of the power stumblers who left SU when they initiated all their changes have found a new home at Pinterest. Right now, it seems more geared toward those people/bloggers. I love it for all the food blogs, recipes and such.
