They actually charge their customers, something the Tea Party wont let the US government do.
neelyjr1Jul 30, 2011
Just charge every customer the same.
jhw539Jul 30, 2011
Successful businesses charge customers according to the value they receive. Ask a homeless person how much value they are receiving from America's infrastructure, stable society, universal education, world-leading business legal structure, FAA, etc. Not as much as I do, that's for sure.
neelyjr1Jul 30, 2011
So by that token, someone who uses there Apple products every day should pay more for them than the people who just use them once a week, right? Kind of a pay as you go plan for your Ipad?
kamtsaJul 31, 2011
By his logic, some iPhone users should subsidize the rest. That's the socialist agenda.
vitriolandangstJul 31, 2011
I didn't BENEFIT from the invasion of Iraq -- so I figure the Oil companies should pay for that.
The wealthy are getting a few thousand iPads a day - and I'm stuck with a 10-year-old 486 Windows 3 PC.
If we all PAY the same -- that doesn't recognize the benefits we receive.
>> Let's have the wealthy pay MORE than the poor -- so that they don't have to hire mercenaries to protect their mansions with machine guns because we have nothing to lose.
kamtsaJul 31, 2011
Nice try Fish. The ever growing federal spending should be cut.
Unregistered_CowardJul 30, 2011
They take advantage of the opportunities of the US tax code which allowed them to pay an effective tax rate of 24%. Let's also remember that they're allowed the benefit of off-shoring their profits, effectively shielding them from any taxation.
mredofcourseJul 30, 2011
The don't offshore their profits. Their profits are *made* offshore. And they're taxed according to those countries tax laws. Sure, Apple isn't bring the cash into this country, and thus avoiding double taxation, but heck, Apple isn't doing much of anything with its crazy amount of cash.
vitriolandangstJul 31, 2011
Their crazy amounts of cash are used to secure parts for their products years in advance and to reduce costs.
Apple used to always get stung by a lack of supplies as Dell and other companies would make sure that critical components would dry up.
So they aren't "wasting" that money -- and there aren't many investments better than Apple.
I much prefer this to the leveraged buyouts and buying up companies just to close them that other companies use their cash for.
mredofcourseAug 1, 2011
Apple uses only a small fraction of their cash for operational expenses which includes securing parts (like their Samsung deal). There are still tens of billions of dollars left over returning an extremely low yield.

Liberals hate successful and independent people and companies. Their ideal are poor people that depend on government entitlements. That's way they have better control of the masses.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
cosmicsurferJul 31, 2011
Do you even listen to what you say or does it just come out like this whenever you stick your finger down your throat?
No one hates others being successful - THE only issue we have is when that "success" is off the backs of others while they give nothing in the transaction..
There is a difference between consensual sex and rape.
wilhoitmJul 31, 2011
@kamtsa, I'm just curious. Are you in the Tea Party? Do you also think the Statue of Liberty is a demonic idol?
vitriolandangstJul 31, 2011
Apple is NOT a company abusing the system here...
Companies like EXXON -- which they surpassed, are paying for "Global Warming is a Fraud" websites. Lobbying to pollute and get tax dollars to drill offshore. And is polluting the planet while doing everything to keep people driving cars. Oh, and they get more benefit from the government than they give in taxes.
About 2/3rds of the Fortune 500 pay no taxes -- Apple isn't one of them.
They couldn't survive in the electronics industry if they didn't offshore -- at least they aren't lobbying to reduce import taxes and such.
>> Instead, we need to change our government to make it cost effective to produce more things in the USA.
>> Not all companies are equivalent -- and I'd rather Apple be at the top of the pile than companies that push us into wars, pollution, or debt.
Unregistered_CowardJul 31, 2011
Did I say they were abusing the system, they are simply taking advantage of the tax code, bought and paid for with campaign contributions and glad-handing of politicians.
Money is money, Chuckles. It doesn't matter whether it is derived from the production of oil or shiny little phones, nor spent on research and development or nets to catch suicide jumpers.
Why should Apple be afforded a tax rate less than what I pay?
vitriolandangstJul 31, 2011
I'm merely pointing out that ALL companies are going to use the system as it is advantageous - and YES, it's wrong that you pay a higher percentage than Apple... I don't think MOST people who work for a living should pay ANY tax -- it should almost ALL be paid for by corporations and the wealthy.
This crap about "fairness" overlooks the point that we HAVE to keep the wealthy from becoming super wealthy -- otherwise Capitalism runs amuck and we don't truly have representative government anymore ... but that's another conversation.
>> But Apple is, relative to others, a GOOD citizen as far as large multinationals go -- and, ASAIK, it isn't lobbying like many of the other corporations.
Compared to EXXON -- they are saints. And in fact, Apple LEFT the US Chamber of Commerce because they realized it's just a lobbying group for outsourcing crooks. They are also the corporation that pushed FoxConn to start treating its employees better.... however, FoxConn has started replacing people with robots en mass -- but that's the future of "labor."
autokadJul 31, 2011
because they run a company that doesnt pay any value back to shareholders
yurimxpxmanJul 31, 2011
I also have more money than the government! About 14.4 trillion more.
charlesp2009Jul 31, 2011
What a stupid article. No wonder Wall Street is screwing up the country so badly.
wilhoitmJul 31, 2011
I bet Apple has a AAA credit rating!

agmlauncherJul 30, 2011
Oh and by the way, the total operating balance of the US government isn't earned and managed the way it is with Apple. It's actually BORROWED AND PRINTED. So Apple actually has $76 billion in REAL money, while the US has $76 billion in FAKE money.
How sad is that?Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
vitriolandangstJul 31, 2011
Until you realize that "earned money" is actually made of the Fantasy Money that the government borrowed into existence.
Unless you want to go back to trading chips of gold -- it's ALL fake money.
