I didn't know physorg was into reviewing wireless carriers ... I am a bit disappoint

I wouldn't choose to ever go with AT&T nor Verizon. What's the point on having blazing fast speed when you have to bean-count your data usage? I'm sorry AT&T 2-5GB isn't a lot and Verizon has already announced that it plans to reintroduce pre-2004 concepts of charging and capping data.
So Sprint/T-Mobile (assuming the deal with AT&T gets blocked by the FCC) it is.

Metro PCS?

It's not available in my area. Truthfully the only prepaid option are Boost, Virgin Mobile, Tracfone, Simpletalk (Walmart' Prepaid), and that's really about it.

"All tests done in specific cities were done in the same location at the same time"
ITT: an extremely biased verizon user finds a place where verizon has strong signal and tests in a place where other phones don't.
Not that I don't like verizon, but a greater geographical variety could probably produce better results for the other carriers resulting in a fair comparison of data speeds.

Isn't this a no-brainer? Verizon is the only one with anything that looks like 4G - and even that isn't 4G.
But the real question is "who cares?"
At least for phones.
For some reason, people on tablets are paying for extra data plans (rather than setting their smartphones up to be hotspots - in some cases free, ie. Android or Jailbroken iPhone), but outside of that... I just don't see the issue.
I'm almost always running my Android phone in 2G mode to save battery (there's a nice little button to turn 3G on/off in Power Widget), and speed isn't slow for just about anything that you do on a phone. Even YouTube isn't that bad on 2G (although I would run it in 3G).
4G on a phone? Well, I suppose it's a faster way to run towards your data cap.
But at least for a phone? 4G is probably the last of my concerns. You might consider 3G or 2G to even be a safety net. Those data overage fees are absolutely unreasonable.
