I will believe it when I see it. VLC coming to iPad would be awesome, but I'm not holding my breath.
badqatSep 9, 2010
I'm not seeing Apple approve this app, but hey, they could surprise us.
jonprojectSep 9, 2010
They did approve CineXplayer though. And it just plays xVid files. So hopefully that sets a good precedent.
unbannedaccountSep 9, 2010
CineXplayer sucks ass.
Also, it only plays about 1 out of 10 xvid files. Just check the reviews if you don't believe me.
jonprojectSep 10, 2010
You clearly didn't get the point of my post then. I wasn't promoting CineXplayer, I was pointing out that it was approved and plays videos Apple obviously doesn't approve of.
bryanwebsterSep 9, 2010
Thats what people said about spotify and opera mini but they went through no problems
0ldb0ySep 9, 2010
vlc on the ipad would be great! although i can't foresee any reason why apple would reject it.
bossm4nSep 9, 2010Submitter
It's all about the dollars.
kopiwriteSep 9, 2010
You can foresee any reason why they would reject it? Look up the case of Google Voice being rejected for iPhone. Same principle. I'd actually be very surprised if they allow it.
swift2Sep 10, 2010
Google Voice is available on the iPhone, as HTML 5. I use it. It works just fine. The application altered the interface that Apple had negotiated with AT&T, and more importantly, that Jobs had approved. Plus, the whole business of Schmidt on the Board of Directors while developing a competing OS came to a head, so there was a lot of anger between the two. There's little doubt that Jobs and Schmidt weren't talking at that time. So Google Voice was part of that. By the way, why isn't the Google navigation software available for the iPhone? Couldn't be that Google wants a competitive advantage, could it?

Is VLC the player with the orange cone as the logo?
bossm4nSep 9, 2010Submitter
Absolutely!

yessir!
mwdSep 10, 2010
You you funny you!
fxspec06Sep 9, 2010
Why would Apple disapprove of this app when approving it could very possibly boost sales? Just saying..
demistateSep 9, 2010
If it's a battery hog, they could kill it. Seeing as it supports video formats that don't play back on the hardware decoder chip, it could be pretty a quick battery on some formats.
swift2Sep 10, 2010
They won't disapprove it.
technopunditSep 9, 2010
What's an iPad?
danbarkerSep 9, 2010
ITS MAGICAL!
dweazleSep 9, 2010
The only problem I have with video on my ipad is flash video. I miss my failblog vids!

Jessica Alba to become my girlfriend, pending her answering my phone call and my learning hypnosis.
kwameboameSep 10, 2010
This'll be so cool. Apples products kick major butt. Everything about them is so addictive.

domduncSep 10, 2010
If this goes through one of my main barriers to entry for the ipad (restrictive file formats) will be gone.
proverbs17Sep 10, 2010
At this point, I'd wait and see what the Android Tablets will be like as well as when Apple brings out iPad v2.
I have an iPad and I love it, but it's 5 months old now. I'm sure the tablet space is going to heat up and get better within the next 6 months.
designersdigestSep 10, 2010
VLC is one of my favorite Video player. Eagerly waiting for its approval. I hope they will approve.
daemonnzSep 10, 2010
Is the source code available? As a member of the developer program, that's all you'd need...
mwdSep 10, 2010
As first comentator said, I will believe it when I see it. I used VLC on all my distros and OS's its actually first program I install on fresh installed OS.
Many non-geek people ask me: "Why can I hear the tone but can't see the picture?" My response: Go to videolan.org download vlc and refresh :) ...works every freaking time for any codec.
harrisbradleySep 10, 2010
Ooooohhhh reeeeaaalllllllllllly??????????????
enricofermiSep 10, 2010
Yeah right, the Third Reich would never approve that.
Rizzod426Sep 10, 2010
Lol, the empire would never let that go down like that, especially something that is very "Windows" related
