I hope things like this go commercial during my lifetime.

I`m probably a little too optimistic but I think they will by the end of the decade. All the trends point to screens being phased out eventually and computing taking place in optical lenses with the computing being done mentally. There are already crude versions of both. Very exciting times!

Let's get to work!

Neat looking, in theory. That level of inter-connectivity is a bit worrisome though. We're having trouble even now with vehicle control systems being hackable because they're tied in with the cars satnav & Bluetooth & risking significant disruptions in utilities by putting control systems on the internet. Imagine a person with one of those little tablets walking through a hospital or a power plant with a virus on it, infecting every computer with an open port or unpatched security flaw. And since society (in this version of the future anyway) has gone paperless, your entire life is put on hold until the system is cleaned. I like the flashy new gismos as much as anyone, but we need to be careful that don't put too much of our lives into systems with serious and possibly fatal flaws.

the problem is not the tabs viruses or connectivity. the problem is our typically "default accept" security infrastructure.
I should not need a firewall to keep things out. we should have ports to let things in keeping everything out should be the default.
ie what you describe is not a tech failure but a security failure.
I would give almost anything to live in "that world"

Very interesting video of cool near-future products.

Am I the only one who finds it rather sad that the kids are out learning about the redwood forest by watching the tress through these glass displays instead of with their non-enhanced eyesight? I believe strongly in technology in nearly every form, but I don't want my real life experiences to be separated by virtual displays and technology walls. Technology has its place, but so do humans and human experiences.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
