Love the device and hate my carrier. I would be very happy to see an iPhone on Verizon. I am pretty close to going Android now if this does not become an option.
badqatDec 30, 2010
Android is a fine platform. Left iOS for good after a week with the iPhone 4, haven't looked back nor regretted it in the slightest.
Very happy with Android.
dirtyfriesDec 30, 2010
Agreed. It's incredibly different for the first few days but then you come to appreciate it.
I think what's really telling is that when I had my iPhone I had to jailbreak to get the functionality I wanted. With my DroidX I haven't even had to consider rooting it.
trdrstvDec 31, 2010
Really ? With my DroidX I was looking for root hacks day 1. My biggest issue is the crapware that comes preloaded and you
A) Can't uninstall
B) Can't tell it to NOT autostart.
and ATK is not the anwser to keep killing processes you don't want there in the first place.
TomHanks4Dec 31, 2010
true, ATK is not the answer. the answer is to learn why you should stop worrying about whats "running" on android in the first place. android's process and memory model is very different than a desktop computer.
tl;dr stop worrying about processes, let android do that
mrspiteriDec 31, 2010
It's "dumbed down", not "very different" imho.
jurybenDec 31, 2010
There are custom Roms (OS) and ways to remove the bloatware with only remove. I have a D2 and after installing fission rom it free'd up double the memory. I suggest when you get the time to look into it. XDA Forums will teach you everything.
swramanDec 31, 2010
its wierd if youve become used to one platform.
I never owned or used any iphone for more than a few minutes at a time, and every time i use one its fairly difficult for me to do anything because i treat it like I do an Android phone, which simply runs differently (different speeds, menu interactions, etc).
babita123Dec 31, 2010
Agree yaa .. I love android ....
terrible0neDec 31, 2010
wow... a week huh... you must be an expert on the platform after such an extended duration of time.
badqatDec 31, 2010
Seeing as how I owned each model that preceded the iPhone 4, and had been on iOS for three years, yes.
adamweberDec 31, 2010
This is the first civilized iOS vs. Android conversation I have ever seen on digg

FTA:
"Although we've heard countless similar reports and rumors in the past, there's mounting evidence that 2011 will be the year iPhone customers finally get a carrier option other than AT&T."
just like there was mounting evidence that 2010 would be the year iphone customers finally get a carrier option other than at&t in these articles about a year ago.
cactusjack901Dec 30, 2010
It's coming this time. All I can say is, Verizon is projecting it to be their biggest phone launch ever.
jntcarticlesDec 30, 2010
I wold like to see Verizon in the Broadband Internet space in California as well. Our provider is par below satisfactory service. I wonder why Verizon will not compete in that area.
martoqDec 30, 2010
Verizon is riddled with Union issues. They can't get their s**t together to save themselves. That's way in certain area's they just can't compete. An example is FIOS. A clearly superior technology compared to most service offerings out there, yet because of union and infrastructure costs to build it out they have backed away from full deployment. It's all money.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
brandonabellDec 30, 2010
Yeah, f**k unions. It's unamerican to work together to increase your standard of living. "Take it or leave it" is only allowed to go from the top down, not the bottom up.

You must not be paying attention to what's going on in the world around you.
mlw4428Dec 31, 2010
You're an idiot. As a Frontier (formerly Verizon) employee the reason they don't compete in areas is due to either an overwhelming amount of competition (wherein it'd cost more to compete than an attractive amount of profit), it'd cost a lot to upgrade/build facilities, or it's a tariff thing. Verizon doesn't invest in low return areas.

Who gives a crap about iPhone at this point? Verizon already has a bunch of phones that are better than iPhone.

"Why Verizon? iPhone outselling Droid and all Moto phones combined"
http://www.beatweek.com/uncategorized/6846-why-verizon-iphone-outselling-droid-and-all-moto-phones-combined/
Like another article said, "Those who have wondered why Verizon and Apple are coming together to offer Verizon iPhone 4 need wonder no more: one of them is getting crushed by virtue of not having the other, and no, it’s not Apple."
bryanjgoldDec 30, 2010
excited for it but will it be 4g?
martoqDec 30, 2010
If they announce this early then unlikely. I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't see LTE come their June/July launch.
europamoDec 30, 2010
It will be CDMA units, I am sure when they get LTE up and running in more cities then you will see that version.
martoqDec 30, 2010
I would normally give android a serious look but I have so much invested in apps on my ipod's that it's hard to walk away from something like this.
amaoicanDec 31, 2010
An iPod Touch is almost as good as a full iPhone - and there's always iPad + Android.
crazydoglady1Dec 30, 2010Staff
I've had 2 Androids and I hate 'em. *crossing fingers* for Verizon to get the iphone soon as I refuse to go to s**tty AT&T service
europamoDec 30, 2010
All devices have their good and bad points, I personally like Android. I have never used a iPhone though since I will not be blood sucked by ATT
crazydoglady1Dec 30, 2010Staff
To be fair, a few of my problems are likely a result of dropping it about 3x a week on average. I also constantly hang up on people (including my boss daily) when my face touches the screen, and it freezes up all the time. I find myself cursing at it a lot :) And yah, I hear all my iphone-having friends complain about AT&T so no desire to join that club..Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

If you drop your phone that often, the LAST thing you want to get is the iPhone
mlw4428Dec 31, 2010
Wait so you hate android phones because you irresponsible with the devices and have (probably) caused damage? I hate Digg because I've punched my monitor so much that Digg seems to have a giant black blob in the middle.
Perhaps you need to invest in a bluetooth headset and just leave the phone in your pocket, attached to a string, looped around your neck.
stallscribbleDec 30, 2010
Time to get an android phone. Iphone is so yesterday.
davidtcDec 30, 2010
Unless the AT&T/Apple contract was revised or broken, the iPhone is exclusive to AT&T for 5 years (2012) as stated by their contract with each other.
I'm not going to believe any of the rumors until Apple or Verizon announces it. Rumors about this have been going on for the last 3 years.
Closed AccountDec 31, 2010
The 5 year term of the Apple+AT&T contract is also a rumor. The actual details of the contract are unknown.
davidtcDec 31, 2010
In court papers Apple mentioned the 5 year contract.
http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/10/confirmed-apple-and-atandt-signed-five-year-iphone-exclusivity-de/
commodusDec 31, 2010
They also didn't mention when the contract started. If it started in 2006... guess when five years later is?
davidtcJan 1, 2011
5 years from release is beginning of 2012. 5 years from "one month before release" is December 2011.
Unless the contract was revised of broken, the iPhone is exclusive to AT&T until 2012 time frame.
commodusJan 1, 2011
Definitely a big unless! Everything's still pointing to 2011, so either that was signed early, or the changes in subsidy strategy shortened the deal.
hotleperDec 31, 2010
Verizon likes to brand their phones with that ugly logo of theirs. I wonder if Apple will agree to it.
mrsurfboardDec 31, 2010
Doubt it
OrlandoAlexDec 31, 2010
The only thing that could beat this would be any new WebOS device at Verizon. iOS has its merits, Android too. WebOS, though, is just amazing.
sevenvtDec 31, 2010
I wonder if HP will do anything to promote that amazing, or will it become something like the Kin (which admittedly was not amazing) or Nokia's OS.
mlw4428Dec 31, 2010
Is WebOS actually going anywhere? When was the last phone with WebOS even released?
commodusDec 31, 2010
Palm Pre 2 should be reaching Verizon in the new year, from what I understand. And probably others as well.
TomMDec 31, 2010
I know I may get flamed for this, but this is actually a good thing for AT&T. Unless there is some huge reliability enhancements with the new CDMA version, Verizon is going to be in for some complaining users.
I have been carrying both an iPhone and a Blackberry both on AT&T for 6 months now and I can tell you that AT&T coverage IS NOT the issue. I drop on average 3 to 4 calls a day on the iPhone and an average of 2 calls per week on the Blackberry.
I also travel a pretty wide geographical area during the week in New Jersey (a radius of around 60 miles) as a field technician. No don't get me wrong, I love the iPhone as a device but it is a horrible phone. I tell all of my clients that see me carrying both that the Blackberry is a great phone and the iPhone is a great internet device. If you put them both together, the combo would be unstoppable.
I have owned the 3g, 3gs and 4 so I've been dealing with it for a while, and always thought it was AT&T. If I never started carrying a Blackberry for work, I would have still believed it to this day. I can however attest that this issue only plagues the iPhone for me.
mrsurfboardDec 31, 2010
Read any article on the iphone and they say it's great at everything except phone calls. I'm guessing it's a low priority in Cupertino
Closed AccountDec 31, 2010
reportedly
sevenvtDec 31, 2010
I imagine those who were going to switch carriers for the iphone already did. So it may be a null gain for Verizon, it'll probably turn out to just be a loss for ATT as their losses to other carriers digs deeper into what they pick up in subscriptions.
That... and CDMA isn't really the way to go in a world wide context.
schneidz101Dec 31, 2010
in this country cdma >> gsm
its like trying to use the metric system in texas or driving on the left side of the road in la.

Android phones are already outselling like the article said. Apple is losing a lot of market share because they are only on one network. I am currently with Verizon and I'll take a look at the iPhone but if its not 4G which it probably won't be I won't even bother getting an iPhone and will just upgrade my Droid.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

jterryohn - agreed, but I didnt like the Android before I dropped it a bunch so maybe I drop it because I hate it.
TomHanks4Dec 31, 2010
at least with android you have your choice of lots of great phones. I don't much like the iPhone 4 myself (high dropped call rate, no physical keyboard), so the entire iOS line is basically dead to me. with android i can get exactly the kind of hardware I want, and if I find out I don't like one, I can easily switch to something else and stay on the android platform.
tomato1324Dec 31, 2010
what will I do? i'll stick with at&t, cause i'm not gonna lie, i had verizon, and i f**king hated them.

Have had both AT&T and Verizon for internet and phone. Verizon is the absolute worst at both. Bad service with a bad attitude. Hey Apple, give the most awesome tool ever invented to Verizon and kiss it good-bye. Also, why do all my 'Droid friends covet my iPhone 4 like it was free candy? Or free sex? Oh yeah, it actually works! And it's easy. And my girl is way hotter than your eastern block...babe?
commodusDec 31, 2010
It's not like they're going to take away AT&T iPhones when this starts up! Some get better customer service on Verizon, some don't. San Franciscans won't care, because they just want an iPhone that can actually make calls.

jusboblynDec 31, 2010
You guys do know that the 4g thing from Verizon/Sprint/TMob is a total crock, right? As in, doesn't exist, not real. Can't work, no support. No tools, no towers, no servers. No infrastructure. Verizon bites!
gnorbDec 31, 2010
FTA: "If and when it happens, will you buy in? Or did you get tired of waiting and opt for an Android model?"
Got tired of waiting, opted for an Android model. Don't regret it, but I'll definitely be buying in.
I've used both Android and the iPhone. (Own a Droid, worked extensively with iPhones and iOS.) I'm on Verizon because AT&T stinks out loud in my area. (Also, because I get a family discount on my plan. But mostly the coverage, since I could use T-Mobile, if I wanted to, but they suck here, too.) Between the two, iOS is a more pleasurable experience. If/when there's a VZ iPhone I'll probably end up switching pretty quickly.
I bought into Android from the start, because not only did I want a smartphone, but I wanted one I could hack. Now that I'm done with that, I want a device that just works and doesn't feel like I'm using Windows 3.1 half the time.
ashkoDec 31, 2010
Will Verizon IPhone be white?
smashdiggDec 31, 2010
Buried. Verizon and att require long term contracts and Dont Hesitate to sign to barely 18 year olds. Iphone Is not that great or any smart phone. Buy A computer and stop facebooking your friends while driving. Im sure this is great for 15 Year olds but Adults? come on do we have to follow every dumbass trend that rapes our pockets?
shraginDec 31, 2010
I'm so buying this, To late my ass, just in time if you ask me.
veganvultureDec 31, 2010
I'd switch the day it comes out. Android desperately needs a marketplace for music and videos. It takes way too long to convert movies and to load it up onto the phone and the same for transfering music. Plus all the good apps come late to Android platform and most of the original apps suck balls. It's the achilles heel for Android.
llbblDec 31, 2010
