Well I guess it's not completely the same phone then. Acting as a hotspot feature is pretty cool.
vtbarreraFeb 3, 2011
But you still can't access data while on a call using Verizon's network. I figure once a lot of the data hogs switch to Verizon that AT&T will greatly benefit from the decrease in overall network congestion.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

And even without all those people, the Verizon data speed is slower than the ATT data speeds both using an IPhone4. Thanks Verizon for speeding up my service for nothing! I think some switchers are not going to be happy.

AT&T's iPhone will also have the hotspot feature on February 13th.
Plus, you can still use it a phone while doing so.
adeelarshad82Feb 4, 2011
How do you know that? Did i miss something?
popeye9000Feb 4, 2011
It was on Engadget or Gizmodo, but here is a link to Time article on the subject: http://techland.time.com/2011/02/03/atts-hotspot-app-share-your-smartphones-web-connection/#ixzz1CuWl9Lwy
adeelarshad82Feb 5, 2011
very cool and it's only a minor update
jayskullsFeb 3, 2011
I wouldn't recommend buying this unless you're okay with being obsolete by mid-summer.
dhuvFeb 3, 2011
Verizon customers are used to buying phones that are not only obsolete but also disgusting looking.
usarugulaFeb 3, 2011
...and can be used to make phone calls.
dhuvFeb 3, 2011
I cannot argue about the coverage. Verizon has done a great job. This (and some Android) phone will finally allow people to not sacrifice one thing to get the other.
vtbarreraFeb 3, 2011
Other than the fact that the iPhone doesn't have 4G, how is it obsolete? I figure I'll be using mine for the next year and half at least.
wkrausmannFeb 3, 2011
iPhone 5 will be out in the summer.
jayskullsFeb 3, 2011
Every summer around the end of July, Apple releases a new iPhone. Im guessing this next rev will be speedier and have a higher capacity like when the 3GS came out.
birch25Feb 3, 2011
If you think it's a bad idea to buy a phone because a better one will come out in 4-5 months then you'll never buy a phone! HTC, Motorola and Samsung release a new top-of-the-line phone every month or two.
Also, the iPhone 4 won't be "obsolete" this summer. It will merely be the second best iOS phone. The specs will be similar to many phones that come out in 2011 and will continue to get software updates for at least 2 more years (day and date with the newer phones.)
rblancarteFeb 3, 2011
So basically the same phone.
The hotspot is one small change, but that is about it.
birch25Feb 3, 2011
And that's a software update which will be in all iPhones once 4.3 is released.
charlotte_webFeb 3, 2011
And the fact that you can't talk and surf at the same time.
pworldFeb 3, 2011
maybe with iphone 5? :-)
popeye9000Feb 3, 2011
No, Apple has stated that LTE won't be supported until next year at the earliest.
alex51086Feb 3, 2011
same phones, different price....
mandarinFeb 3, 2011
So uh it looks just like any other iphone...
cmostFeb 3, 2011
Who cares? Really! I'm sure the iPhone is an iPhone regardless of which carrier its on.
tyler1413Feb 3, 2011
ATT-You better be ready to offer me a flat rate for unlimited data! If you don't, i'm jumping ship.
pheaktolFeb 3, 2011
it has been done. one of my co-workers was threatening to jump ship and they offered that to him after he mentioned it. cant hurt to try?
tyler1413Feb 3, 2011
Thanks man! I had no idea. I am going to give them a call right now.
