Except any text messages, time/date/length/# called of phone calls, and any other communication that originated and left your phone over your carrier's network is logged in some form or fashion. A panic button can't/won't fix that.

True that

Indeed, this seems more like a faux peace-of-mind app, at least for people in this country. I would imagine its more useful to activists in other nations where the servers with backup copies may not be in-country.

And that is exactly what is is DESIGNED for. It has noting to do with people getting arrested in their own country.

Yes and just prior to wiping the data I'm sure it's uploaded to a government server for safe keeping.

uploaded - or at least notified.
and wont you be even more suspicious by wiping your data?
usfull to get rid of any contact number or call history association though.
br0ken1128Mar 31, 2011
Wiping the data by emptying the databases on the iphone isn't going to be enough anyway, the right forensics software can likely recover at least some of it from the filesystem.. besides, if they know where you live and you keep itunes backups ( default when you sync ) then it's all there anyway..
Best solution is not to put that stuff on your iphone! use a truecrypt drive or some kind of app that supports encrypted messaging ( and hope you can trust them as well )
br0ken1128Mar 31, 2011
The best solution to wipe your data? .. carry a big hammer around with you and beat the holy crap out of your device until it's mostly just dust .. you don't need an app for that

Wow....in what way did you see this article as an opportunity to embarrass yourself with your political bitching?

FTA: "I haven't seen a panic button app release date yet, but even if you aren't an activist or don't plan on being arrested and having your mobile phone confiscated, the panic button app seems like a good idea."
What the f**k is MobileME?

Of course it leaves forensic information for the government to get later...
