Most nonsensical printer-related pronouncement since PC LOAD LETTER.
Closed AccountNov 9, 2010
what the f**k does that even mean?
avrusNov 9, 2010
Why does it say paper jam when there is no paper jam!?
cybersaurNov 8, 2010
The TSA is so incredibly stupid and reactionary. None of this security theater does a damn bit of good to keep anyone safe.
Frankly, at this point I'd rather take my chances with the terrorist than put up with any more of this reactionary foolishness.
lucas123Nov 8, 2010
That's the way to deal with this. Just ban whatever item they put the explosives in. Wait ... wouldn't it be easier to just ban ALL inbound flights?
I mean, why deal with this kind of terrorism with a rusty, dull knife, when you can use a sledgehammer?
seattlegirluwNov 8, 2010
Well, toner carts are easy to empty and reload w/ whatever, so I get it. At least they're TRYING to keep us all safe in the friendly skies.
elcalrissianNov 8, 2010
They're not trying at all.
They banned the 1 item that they caught. What happens next when the explosive is in Twinkies? Bann Twinkies?
Trying would have involved thought. Thinking would have pointed to the Cargo screening process (which is different thatn our belt and shoe removing passenger screening) may be flawed and incomplete.
Tell me your answer is more scrunity on cargo and bags. Not that I cant take 1 specific new item on the flight now.
Know what Terrorists are thinking?
Ok, lets pack it in Calculators and Staplers, Printers are no go!
piratearggghhhNov 9, 2010
I think I figured out the terrorists' plan: plant an explosive in everything so that eventually everything will be banned.
esornosoNov 9, 2010
The market for printer ink on Ebay just exploded.
drleephdNov 9, 2010
YEAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!
kellykirkNov 9, 2010
When will the madness stop?
scilecNov 9, 2010
I've heard that fonts are next.
langfordNov 9, 2010
Someone please tell me that it is absurd to get the impression that people will all eventually be flying completely naked with no luggage.
cristinamkNov 9, 2010
"...flying completely naked with no luggage."
Wouldn't it be awesome?
koanNov 9, 2010
Examine the next ten people you see and see if you conclude it would be awesome.
Unless you work with models of course, then wait until you get outside.
drleephdNov 9, 2010
so whenever anything is considered capable of being used as a bomb, it's banned; instead of training TSA employees to inspect whether something is a bomb. Nothing ever gets removed from this list and it's only a matter of time before you can't bring ANYTHING on a plane,
TSA remains as untrained, dumb as ever and it makes you and I less safe, not more.
langfordNov 9, 2010
It's about money.
employee + training = skilled employee = higher wages
Lists are cheap, even long lists of forbidden trinkets.
techbruteNov 9, 2010
No, that's what happens when the government takes charge of something.
nathanloehleinNov 9, 2010
Just wait until the breast implant bomber comes along.

Breaking news: TSA bans passengers from in-bound flights! Claims this will drastically reduce the terrorist threat and make flying much safer....by...umm keeping everyone off the airplanes......
phillymozartNov 9, 2010
We should have never created the TSA in the first place. So far, I do not see how we are any safer than before.
misslindadeeNov 9, 2010
Darn!
speedNov 9, 2010
Notice how they only ever ban the tools of foiled attempts? You never hear of them catching someone because of a pre-emptive ban.
ryebryeNov 9, 2010
the liquids ban was based on "intelligence" and not based on people actually bringing stuff on an airplane and being caught
speedNov 9, 2010
Fair enough. Still never hear of it foiling anything. The only foiled terrorist attacks always seem to be due to terrorist incompetence.
I get that it's more likely than not that they have foiled attempts that they don't mention "due to national security", but part of me has to wonder if maybe, just maybe, the terrorists on 9/11 were more lucky than skilled? I mean, it's not like their plan was elaborate, they smuggled in some knives and crashed a couple of planes.
fuzzybearNov 9, 2010
But we still haven't had any experts come forward and say "this is a credible threat". The difficulties involved with liquid explosives make them impossible to use on an aircraft.
While there was a real attempt (or at least a plot), there still isn't any evidence that there was any risk to be had just that some idiots thought they could do it.
cybrknightNov 9, 2010
Merely makes my decision to go elsewhere in the world for my holidays so much easier.
TomHanks4Nov 9, 2010
its terrorism whack-a-mole
what terrorist worth a damn would not just use something they haven't banned yet?
rusty_gNov 9, 2010
this is so retarded, next thing you know, laptops will be banned, because I can make a bomb out of a laptop!
shurikaneNov 9, 2010
Note to self: make a bomb out of earphones, a pillow, a blanket and an inflight meal.
Then sneak it onto an L.A.-Beijing 13 hour flight.
Biblical amounts of rage shall ensue for the years to come.
daiichiNov 9, 2010
Someone should figure out how to make a fake bomb out of an assh**e. Then TSA would have to ban assh**es--and soon there won't be assh**es left in the country; we'd have to offshore Congress!
gelftheelfNov 9, 2010
If they take something out of my bag that could be an explosive... why toss it in a plastic box behind them instead of like.. you know a concrete/steel reinforced box..
additionally...
setting off a bomb in the LINE for security or even just the Dunkin Donuts in the waiting area BEFORE security would cause an entire shut down of all flights (probably in the entire country).
After that happens... they'll move the security lines to coming into the airport, so you'll have to go through security to just pickup someone at baggage claim. of course this will require adding a second set of security lines (in some airports) and the costs of flights will double.
Then the airline industry will ask for a bailout from the government which of course isn't seeing the other government agency making flying almost prohibitive.
proverbs17Nov 9, 2010
While I tend to agree with most of the comments here and that banning printer cartridges pretty much like shutting the door after the horse runs free...
But, if you put yourself in the place of the TSA, you can sort of see what an overwhelming task that they have. I'm sure the screeners aren't making top dollar, so you kind of get what you get.
devilokNov 9, 2010
The terrorists have won.
drjgNov 9, 2010
Some flights, rather some airlines, they insist on baggage so light, you are lucky if you can take your underclothes, enough to dress clean in case they lose your baggage - or in case someone else from your flight (or whatever) takes it from the baggage corrall when you land. Happened to us almost, a couple of times, the latter, and loss of baggage by airline a few times as well, so the attempt to carry enough underclothings in hand baggage is a serious matter when going away for a few weeks, and the airlines severely restricting weight thereof is a huge strain. They don't mind how heavy the computer bags are though, strangely enough. World of flights and airports is gone crazy (- and also turned physically filthy), losing mind and courtesy, giving in to impulses of baser sort, bullying those they can. Which amounts to those perceived as not powerful enough to make them lose job get bullied when already under strain of a long journey and physical strain of flights.
drjgNov 10, 2010
They are going to put the twenty kilo limit into effect for all passengers, we heard, including flights arriving at or departing from US.
There goes serious export from US - holiday shoppers in malls buying stuff to take home, people taking gifts for friends and relatives in the world - on the other hand, shopping in US has become expensive on par with Europe, so it is just as well.

Probably for insurance purposes. If the plane crashes and they have to reimburse passengers for their lost luggage, it would cost too much to replace all that expensive ink.
